"James, you don't look so good."
"I know."
"Let me go, you can't remain like this. I need to let doctor Robin know you're with the poison."
"Just don't, Mathilda. Stay with me. I can handle the pain. At least I'm not screaming like you were." The idiot tries to crack a joke in order to make the atmosphere seem less tense, but I'm not buying any of it.
"But you're at the point of death, James. I don't want to lose you." I persist, jamming my fingers through my hair.
"Just lay on the bed with me, Mathilda. Doctor Robin is probably working on something. You don't need to pressurize him." James grits out and then turns to face me.
"I can't leave you here like this," tears are blurring my vision right now, and I sniff. It just hurts to see him like this, fighting with the pain that I'm supposed to be dealing with.
