The Twilight Guild, although ranked number three amongst all the guilds on Earth, was rarely mentioned by the author. If I recall correctly, maybe about once or twice?
I can't remember it well…whenever I try to remember something a headache suddenly appears.
It had No one who was pivotal to the main plot of the novel.
Besides, It was one of the guilds that fell after the Third apocalypse, which happened in 2070.
And this was also the reason I decided to enter it.
It had no calamity magnet(protagonist) at all, which was a great blessing for me. And about its fall, I could probably figure something out during the years I had left.
And currently, it was still a force to be reckoned with because the two prodigies of Titan and Behemoth, the first and second ranked guilds respectively, were still unknown. Their names were Elaine Parker, also known as the Saint in the future and Henry Fornum, known as the Poet of Gales in the future.
Twilight only suffered when these two prodigies were revealed, and the lower rank guilds capitalized on it, taking their chances in bringing the guild down.
But currently? They were the best option I could choose.
'For my contract…because of my rank I can virtually ask for anything…Twilight will support me anyways in every way so I should prioritize getting full control of this body…'
Getting a good education for the little sister of this body would be good, it shouldn't be hard at all for the guild. If she is happy, then maybe I won't have to deal with the cliche of the original owner taking control. Of course, I have no idea whether this is the case or not, but it is best to be cautious and prepared.
'Education for her…and a potion or treatment for her legs.'
As I was thinking about my terms for the contract, the car stopped and we exited the vehicle.
Stepping out of the car, I was enamored by the building in front of me. It was at least 150 stories tall and looked to be crafted with the finest materials and technology mankind could offer. I could feel the building exude an aura of power…It's probably enchanted.
"Please follow me, The guild master is waiting for you, "
Said the Twilight guild recruiter.
'Guildmaster huh…'
Well, it's expected for an SS rank, the guildmaster would probably want to meet with the new prodigy his guild would have.
I followed the man inside the building. Almost everyone inside was staring at us.
I ignored their gazes and continued, we entered an elevator.
The elevator started to go up, and with each floor it passed I could feel the air was richer and more…alive.
It was as if the building was alive…this is probably because of the high concentration of mana. The high rank hunters and executives of the guild are probably the reason for this…they must be subconsciously emitting mana.
He quickly led me to a door and knocked on it.
"You can come in."
A cold voice rang…a voice that made me tremble. I did not know why though, my entire body shook when I heard it.
The man opened the door and gestured for me to go inside, and I did.
It was a dark room, barely lit by a few candles of purple flame. The room carried with it a sense of mystery. A man, dressed in a three piece black suit sat on a table in the middle of the room. The man possessed hair as black as the night, and it reached his shoulders. I was unable to see his facial features well due to the lack of proper lighting.
'Damn…that's the guild master huh.'
The pressure he was exerting confirmed it. I could literally see the waves of mana that he exuded just by sitting there. He was so strong his mana escaped his body subconsciously and tried to conquer the surrounding area. However, as soon as I entered, the pressure I was feeling, along with the waves of mana vanished without a trace. He was intentionally suppressing the natural release of his mana for me.
'Either S or SS rank.'
He is, without a doubt, one of the strongest humans on Earth.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Alan Peccator."
His gentle voice was soothing to my ears, I had thought that maybe he was using a skill to lower my guard…but he wasn't. His voice was just gentle, and nice for the ears.
"Hello…"
I greeted him, with a bit of hesitation to more accurately play the act of a dumb child.
"Ah, I should have turned on the lights first."
He seemed to apologize, and with no movement from him at all, the lights in the room turned on and it was fully illuminated. I felt something move, but I don't know what it was. My Draconian body subconsciously reacted to it.
'...'
When the lights were on, I could see his face quite clearly…and goddamn was he fucking handsome.
"Take a seat."
I sat down on the chair in front of his desk. And he asked me a question.
"May I ask why you wanted to join Twilight?"
His voice was gentle, it was the standard question one would ask.
But for me, this is a bit difficult to answer.
I don't know anything about this body's life, or any records of it. Since I am an orphan I could probably say that my parents wanted me to join this guild before their death…But I don't know whether they are actually dead or just missing. And if they are dead, they have records which Twilight can easily find.
There are many…but I think I will continue with playing the dumb role for now.
"The name was cool."
"Haha, Is that the only reason?"
"Umm? The recruiter wasn't pushy?"
"I see, I'll be sure to reward him for that."
'...'
He seems friendly…or is it just me? Too friendly…
"I've heard that you are an orphan…I would need the permission of your current guardian…"
"NO!"
I interrupted his words…but it wasn't of my own volition..
'Damn it!'
This body spoke by itself, I had no intention of saying that! Fuck! Did that bitch called Penny do things that bad that left a trauma on this body? Fucking whore!
The guildmaster, taken aback by my yell, had a grave expression on his face.
Was he perhaps angry that I had shouted at him? I hope not.
"I see…"
'I'll have to do research on the orphanage he is assigned to…'
The guildmaster, Richard Thompson thought, The actions of the child in front of him was making him think something was wrong in his orphanage.
Richard, using a skill, contacted the staff outside his office whilst Alan was unaware.
'I want everything about the orphanage the kid is from ASAP.'
[Yes sir,]
He was using a skill akin to telepathy, but with a short radius.
"I'm sorry…"
I apologized to him for my rude behavior.
"It's alright, take a deep breath, would you like some refreshments?"
"It's ok."
I answered, I don't want to eat anything right now…especially not after the major blunder.
Sighing, I decided to take the initiative before this body fucks it up for me once again,
"Umm…Can I discuss the details of the contract? I was brought here for that."
"Sure."
The guildmaster took out a piece of paper from his drawer, the piece of paper was glowing with a purple light, and the words on it were glittering like gems.
'Mana Contract.'
The standard contract used by guilds for their higher rank prospects. The color of it indicated it was pretty high in rank as well. Breaking the terms listed within it would spell my demise.
"What do you want to add? The standard terms for the contract are beneficial for you, you get our full support, maximum security and housing in one of our buildings, your training is covered, we will also provide you with equipment whenever you want that is within your capabilities, it will be suited for your affinities as well. Mana breathing techniques, and anything you need to learn you will have tutors for you. Furthermore…"
I quietly listened to him explaining the benefits of the contract…they were incredible. However, the things I needed to do came as well.
"However, to receive all the benefits I said, you will have to sign the contract and be a member of Twilight, never in any circumstance are you to engage in any activity intentionally meant to defame Twilight, you will have to get along with the members, and do the tasks we assign to you, of course those tasks will be suitable for your capabilities. You also have to follow a strict schedule that we will design so you can live up to your full potential. You will be admitted into the Shield academy using our connections, but you will have to perform well there as well. Furthermore, you are to never engage with any guild unless advised so from the executives and me. You also have to listen to your superior in your team or party. You have to participate in guild activities like raids, or other such things. You can read the contract, Ask any questions you want."
'...Eh?'
Huh?
What?
That's it? For those benefits that's…it???
I…didn't believe it, So I grabbed the contract and spent quite a while reading it.
And to my shock, all he said was true…
'Wow…'
I was in awe…I was expecting good conditions to come with strict responsibilities but they weren't anything like I had expected.
"Hmm…"
Whilst I was thinking, Richard, the guildmaster was listening to the information provided by his staff.
[Guildmaster, he's from the orphanage known as Black Rock Orphanage, the facility is poorly maintained, and the person in charge, Penny Carter, has a history of poorly managing the children within her care, The orphanage has children who are poorly fed and not properly taken care of, The director is obsessed with money and is a smoking addict. The boy, Alan Peccator entered the orphanage about 4 to 5 years ago, and has a bad history with the director since he complains about treatment a lot. He is the oldest there. He also has a little sister who has a disability. She is paralyzed from the waist down. She is about 10 years old.]
'Hmmm…'
Richard digested the information his team gave…and looked at the boy with keen eyes.
'Well…he does look malnourished.'
He thought, looking at the boy's skinny bones and sunken cheeks. He was ashamed for not realizing it earlier.
"Can I add some terms?"
His attention was diverted when the boy in front of him talked.
"I want it so that my sister receives proper education and is also cured of her disability."
Richard smiled, he liked the character of the boy. What he was asking for wasn't hard at all.
If it was just normal paralyzation, then a potion would fix her legs, and education wasn't hard, They just needed to pay some extra for it. It was nothing for Twilight.
"Sure, are you ready to sign the contract?"
'Although I need a guardian…judging by the history of the director of the orphanage it will probably end badly if we negotiate with her…If legal issues arise twilight's team will probably take care of it.'
Richard concluded, He didn't like the director of the orphanage based on the information he had heard. She was probably a wicked woman. If legal issues did arise…So what?
They were the third ranked guild, what could a mere director of a small orphanage do to them?
"There's one more thing…"
Richard looked at Alan with a bit of confusion, he was going to ask for more?
"How…do I sign it?"
"..."
Nope, it was a genuine question.
'Right…he's a kid who just became an awakened..'
Furthermore, he was also an orphan who probably received no training.
"Give me your hand."
Richard held Alan's hand, and made his mana flow smoothly through the child's body, making him get a feel for it. He pushed the mana of the child towards the contract.
Meanwhile, a display appeared in front of Alan.
[Mana contract detected, would you like to sign?]
"Yes."
[Detecting external influence…none detected deemed to be harmful.]
[Checking mental state…No fault detected.]
[Contract has been signed.]
'Ah, the contract also had such features to prevent scamming or forceful signing…nice.'
