Chereads / Rule / Chapter 3 - III

Chapter 3 - III

3rd person.

"She's mad at me." Caspian complains to Arcadia.

Arcadia raises an eyebrow. "You don't say?" She asks as she tries to stifle her laughter and the thought of Caspian coming to her for advice.

Caspian shoots her an annoyed look. "Are you going to help me or not?"

Arcadia sighs resignedly. "Have you tried apologising?

"Have-have I tried apologising? Have I tried apologising she asks." Caspian splutters in disbelief. "Of course I've tried apologising!"

Arcadia gives Caspian an unamused look. "You asked for my help. Don't shout at me." She crosses her arms in annoyance.

Caspian takes a deep breath and runs his hand through his hair. "I know. I'm sorry. It's just so stressful. I don't like to fight with her."

Arcadia's eyes soften at the desperation in his tone. "Then why are you?"

Caspian groans under his breath. "It just felt like she didn't trust me and I get where she's coming from, I really do but it still hurt."

Arcadia awkwardly pats his shoulder. "I don't think she didn't tell you about the council because she didn't trust you. The council gave Nyx a really hard time." She attempts to explain. "I'm sure she just didn't want to discuss it for fear of dredging up bad memories. Or maybe she didn't think it was that important to tell you just yet. But I know she was going to tell you, Nyx doesn't like secrets."

"It's wasn't just about the council. She got so mad when I used my glamour to listen in on the conversation she had with Klaus and I get why she was, but with the way she said reacted It was like she thought I was spying on them or something."

Arcadia raises an eyebrow. "Weren't you?"

"Yes but not like that!" Caspian argues.

"Look this is news to me, so I don't know the entire context but that's sus behaviour and you know it. If you wanted to know what they had talked about you could've just asked. You don't spy on your friends, or your erasthai."

Cas groans again. "I was just curious."

Arcadia stands up. "Look, just talk to her okay? Like a proper talk." She leaves to continue on with her duties. "Caspian, you don't need to be worried about Nyx and Klaus. I've been there, but they're like siblings, they've been through a lot together." She walks away leaving Caspian to his thoughts.

I'm not jealous of Klaus! I was just curious. He thinks to himself.

Caspian gets up and begins to roam the castle in search of Nyx.

"Fuck." He curses once he realises he's lost.

After a few more minutes of frantic searching, Cas gives up and sits on the floor trying his best to recall the way back to Nyx's wing. As he is lost in thought he is suddenly grabbed by the throat by an invisible source.

Cas begins to choke, scratching at whatever was holding him up as he tries to see through the glamour of his attacker. The hold doesn't let up but Caspian finally regains his senses and attempts a kick to what he hopes is his attacker's midriff.

The attacker stumbles away, startled and it's glamour begins to wears off.

"Your glamour is still a bit lacking I see." Caspian rubs at his throat and sneers.

His attacker gives him a bloodcurdling smile. "You've resorted to non-magick methods I see. It seems you've spent too much time with these mutts." The man mocks.

Caspian's eyes blaze in anger. "Says the man who was attempting to strangle me with his bare hands not so long ago."

The man shrugs. "What can I say, it was fun. But you're right, I should probably stick to what I'm good at." The man agrees before flicking his wrists and entangling Caspian in bonds made of hardened air.

Caspian begins to struggle against his bonds, attempting to find a way out of the dreadful situation.

"Ah ah ah" His attacker tsks disapprovingly, tightening the bonds even more. "You should know better than to struggle."

Caspian relaxes his body in a manner feigning defeat and so lulls his attacker into a false sense of security for long enough for him to use his own magick to rid himself of the cursed bonds. He drops to his knees once he is no longer being held up by the tight bonds but quickly scrambles to his feet.

Caspian flicks his wrist and suddenly the man was bound up by the vines of the plants in the corridor. "Well uncle." He seethes. "I'll have you know my magick still works quite efficiently as well." He squeezes his fist and the man, his uncle begins to choke.

"What do you want?" Caspian questions.

His uncle makes no attempt to speak so Caspian tightens his hold even more. "Tell me!" He demands.

"Or what? You're going to kill me? I'd like to see you try. You've always just been a pathetic little boy." His uncle chokes out, his face red from the lack of air.

Caspian seethes but tries to control his overflowing anger. "What do you want?" He repeats through gritted teeth.

His uncle struggles to shrug against the vines. "You'll see soon enough." He chokes out before disappearing into thin air.

Caspian watches as the vines fall to the floor in rage and shock . He runs his hands through his hair worriedly. "Fuck." He curses once again, leaning against a wall trying to catch his breath.

Soon enough Nyx comes running down the corridor. "Cas?" She asks worriedly. "What's happened? Where were you? The guards informed me of another breach and then suddenly we couldn't you find you!" Nyx exclaims worriedly while instantly pulling him into a hug.

Cas doesn't hesitate in hugging her back as it had been a hard few days without her hugs. "I got lost." He mumbles into her neck.

Nyx pats his head comfortingly before slowly freezing. "What are those?" She asks, pointing to the worn out plants that had just a few moments ago held his uncle captive.

Caspian pulls back and sighs deeply. "I have a lot of shit to tell you.

- - -

"I don't understand. Why wouldn't he just take you instead of prolonging a fight?" Arcadia asks confusedly. "No offence Cas." She quickly adds.

"Maybe because that wasn't the point of the visit." Nyx muses before turning to Klaus. "Did you find out anything about who dropped of that book?"

Klaus frowns. "No, but from the residue we found it was definitely one of the Fae Folk."

Cas groans. "I think I know what this means."

The other three turn to him. "I know my uncle, this is his way of passing along his message while simultaneously messing with me. He's going to wage war against you. He was trying to show you how easy it'd be to breach your castle." Cas buries his head in his hands. "This is all my fault."

Nyx pats his back. "No it isn't." She reassures.

"But what would the Seelie court gain from attacking us?" Klaus asks.

"Since when have those crazy fae people needed a reason for anything." Arcadia mutters. "No offence Cas." She remedies once again.

"Non taken." The said fae shrugs. "As right as you are I don't believe that the case. While the Fae do not need an excuse for a particularly fun or amusing scheme there's too much at risk for there not to be a good reason for this."

"They could be wanting to kill you?" Klaus volunteers.

"But why not do just that?" Cas says. "It wouldn't make any sense to concoct this elaborate plan when my uncle could have very well left me dead this afternoon."

"Cas is right, It doesn't make any sense." Nyx concurs. "Arcadia? Did you happen to find anything about the council?"

Arcadia shakes her head forlornly.

Nyx's green eyes flash gold for a quick second. "I think I might just have an inking of an idea of what's going on."

- - -

"It doesn't make any sense though." Arcadia protests.

"Well, it is a bit of a reach." Nyx admits. "But it would explain how the Council knew I'd found my erasthai. Cas said he overheard his uncle and a witch talking about us. The seelie court already knew we were destined."

"Why would the Seelie court work with the council then?" Klaus asks incredulously.

"Yeah, no offence but a majority of Fae Folk have hated you guys since the First war." Caspian agrees.

"You mean the war in which your folks betrayed us to the vampire covens." Arcadia argues.

"That's not what happened!" Caspian snaps.

Nyx raises a hand. "Hold on."

The two stop bickering at her command.

Nyx snaps her fingers. "The first war! In the first war the three courts worked with the lycans and werewolves to get rid of the vampires."

Klaus shoots Nyx a worried look. "Yeah, that's what we just said."

"No. I mean, the Fae folk were easily swayed by the promise of power and jewels. Who's to say that's not what happened again this time?" Nyx explains.

"But why would the council ever want to work with the courts again after what happened?" Arcadia asks.

"Because..." Nyx starts.

"They both have a common enemy! Both sides have someone they want to get rid of. There's a mutual benefit." Cas continues.

"Look at them finishing each other's sentences." Klaus coos and Arcadia smacks the back of his head.

"But would the council really go so far just to get rid of you?" Cas asks in disbelief.

Nyx's eyes darken. "Oh trust me, they would."

Arcadia and Klaus hum their agreement.

"If you believe so then I won't disagree. I know first hand what people would do for power and control." Cas mutters darkly. " So what are we going to do?" He asks.

"The council is coming in two days. In the time they spend here we try our best to find out more about this theory we have and to figure out who else they might have backing them. Other than that there's not much we can do except try to tighten up security." Nix orders and the other three nod.

"I can help put up barriers that'll hinder less powerful Faeries from coming into the castle premises." Cas volunteers and Nyx sends a warm smile his way.

"That'll be extremely helpful. Thank you."

"I'm sorry for eavesdropping on yours and Klaus' conversation, and for pushing you to talk about the council. I didn't mean to upset you." Cas speaks up on the walk with Nyx to their room.

Nyx sighs deeply. "It's fine, I blew things way out of proportion and I should have told you about the council."

Cas gives her a hesitant smile. "Good?"

"Good."

"Does this mean you'll come back to the room?" He asks bouncing lightly on his feet.

Nyx chuckles at his excitement. "Sure."

A few minutes later, Cas and Nyx are lying on the bed in the room they once again share. With Nyx resting her head on Caspian's chest as he plays with her hair.

"Cas?"

He hums in response, the vibration flowing through her comfortingly.

Reluctantly she leans forwards into a sitting position, turning to face him with a serious look on her face.

Cas mirrors her actions, slightly confused.

"What exactly do you know about the Lycan mating process?" She asks hesitantly.

The male's cheeks warm with a barely noticeable pink hue. "I know you guys bite each other and uhm mate?" He squeaks out in embarrassment.

Nyx lets out a small laugh. "Well it's not just biting. It's a mark, a method of connecting oneself deeper with their mate or erasthai as the case maybe to strengthen the bond."

Cas nods in acceptance. "Why're you telling me this now?" He questions. "Do you want to...."

"No. I mean yes. I mean-" Nyx stumbles on her words.

Cas raises an eyebrow at the rare sight of his erasthai struggling with her words.

Nyx takes a deep breath to compose herself. "What I meant was that, I don't know if it'd be a good idea for me to mark you before we understand what the council has planned but yes, I do want to." She explains a bit flustered.

"Okay." Cas shrugs intertwining their fingers and pulling her back against himself.

Nyx relaxes in his hold. "Do the Fae Folk have mates?" She asks curiously.

"Something like that. We can form bonds with others, it links us together and it has some of the effects of your mate bond as well. There's a ritual and everything." He explains, back to toying with her hair.

"Since you're not a lycan, you can't mark me back but we could do the ritual thing once all this is over if you'd like."

"I'd like that very much."
