Chapter 20 - The Unlocked Skill

"We got lucky today!"

The group of five men yelled in satisfaction while waving the red wallet in the air. That was the price for targeting an old woman that couldn't defend herself against youngsters.

As they were celebrating, Yami stood from a distance while looking at them. They were in a dark alley near the forbidden area where few houses were occupied.

Yami sighed and glanced at the quest. 'I badly needed that exp. I'm too tired to fight these men. What should I do?'

Yami tilted his head from side to side. He was thinking about how to get the red wallet from their hands without hurting them physically. Once again, he glanced at his screen and read the quest.

"All I need is to get that wallet," Yami muttered. He looked above the moon with a tired expression.

[SHADOW SHIFT IS ACTIVATED.]

Yami teleported through the darkness, grabbed the wallet in the man's hand as soon as he appeared, and used 'Charge of Madness' to dash forward and create a considerable gap between them.

The five men were in shock and couldn't react on time. They looked at the side and saw Yami's figure from afar, running away from them.

"HEY! COME BACK!"

Yami chuckled as they chased behind him, but the distance was too far that the men threw knives and stones at him.

[STEEL SHIELD IS ACTIVATING.]

The shield blocked all the incoming sharp objects behind Yami and kept him safe from harm.

Yami turned to the side passage and hid in the dark. He waited for the men to pass him before he got out and went in the opposite direction toward the mart.

When Yami arrived, the old lady was nowhere to be seen. He pinched the bridge of his nose since he needed to find her, which prolonged the quest completion.

"I should eat first. I'm hungry," Yami muttered and went inside the mart. His noodles were still there, but they became cold. He goes to reheat the noodles in the microwave when he saw the old lady at the other table.

"Um, excuse me?" Yami stated softly and tapped the old woman's shoulder, which gained her attention.

The old woman wiped away her tears before facing Yami with a smile. "Yes, child, do you need something?"

Before Yami could answer, he saw the men outside and looked around before entering the mart.

Yami smiled and shook his head before hiding behind the aisles of snacks. He heightened his hearing sense to know what was happening.

"Wh-what do you want? You already took my wa-wallet. I don't have anything left," the old woman cried when the men started searching in her pockets to get anything valuable.

"B*tch, have you seen someone this short?" one of the men gestured his hand to match Yami's height.

"I- no," the old woman stuttered and looked down. "Please, I need the mo-money for my gr-grandchild's food and milk."

"Pathetic old b*tch!"

The men glared and smacked her head before going out of the mart.

Yami sighed and went to the counter. He placed the snack and watched the cashier shiver with fear in her eyes.

"Do they always do that?" Yami whispered.

The female cashier nodded and silently grabbed Yami's snacks and put them in the plastic bag.

"I see," Yami smiled at her.

After Yami paid for the items, he bought. He returned to the old woman's table and saw that she wasn't there anymore.

Yami ran outside and saw her walking away. He wanted to approach her instantly but decided to follow the old woman to her home. Yami wanted to ensure she arrived safe, and he still needed to give her wallet back.

The old woman cried silently for the whole journey until she arrived at her small old house. She inhaled deeply and brought a smile to her face before opening the gate.

"Grandma!" a child's voice yelled, and he hugged his grandmother tightly.

Yami, who was witnessing the scene, felt warmth, but that made him tremble with anger, knowing that those men stole her money meant for her grandchildren.

"Wait," Yami ran towards them before the old woman closed her gate.

"Ah, you are the boy from earlier," the old woman stated and opened the gate for him to enter, but Yami refused.

"I won't take long. I just came here to give you these," Yami handed the plastic bag that contained some snacks and milk. The wallet was also inside, hidden among the items. He added some cash when he saw the old woman was struggling financially.

"Aw, you don't have to," the old woman whispered and didn't hesitate to hug Yami tightly. "Thank you. May the heavens bless you for your kindness."

"Welcome," Yami stated and patted the old woman's back to calm her down since she was about to cry.

"Please come in. I'll make you some tea," the old woman invited, but Yami refused.

"I would love to, but I need to take care of something," Yami stated and went out of the gate and walked away.

"Thank you, mister!" the boy yelled and waved at Yami with a big smile before they went inside their house.

[ THE WALLET: HAS BEEN COMPLETED. YOUR REWARD CAN BE FOUND IN THE INVENTORY.]

[YOU LEVELED UP!]

Yami stopped walking and looked at his status and the Assassin soul's second skill that had been unlocked.

"I'm now at level five, huh," Yami muttered and opened the new Assassin skill.

"Finally, an offensive skill. It's time to test this out," Yami smirked. He walked toward the dark alley and searched for his target.
