" Good day Madam," greeted Greta respectfully though her face was cautious as she pushed Ginny behind her. The woman who stepped out of the dark corner unannounced, raised her brows with her eyes curled up, she tittered lightly. " Seriously Great, you are too winded up, smile a little do you think I am going to eat this young lady?" Because half of her face was hidden behind a folding fan, her voice was muffled making it even more sinister.
Greta bowed slightly as she shook her head. " Not at all madam, I was just worried that this girl will upset you. She was hired today and doesn't know the rules and regulations of the Terranova house yet, this is why I do not want to present any unsightly to you, my lady."
" New recruit?" The madam asked with an air of surprise as she looked at Ginny and smiled pleasantly but Ginny could see the hint of contempt and disgust in her eyes. She didn't know why but she already had a feeling that this madam and she were definitely not going to get along like ever and hoped that she wasn't going to serve this lady or else she might as well commit murder before stealing the books.
No sooner has she thought that Lexus the snake hissed at her malevolently causing her to jump in surprise. The woman patted its diamond-shaped head and then looked at Ginny with an amused look, "Bad mouthing are we?"
Ginny's eyes widened as she shook her head and looked away. Gosh, a snake that can read human mind? What the hell.
" Well, aren't you going to introduce us, Greta? I can see that the girl does not know her place yet." Though the woman's words were laced with contempt and ire, her smile never fell instead she looked at Ginny like she was some young girl from the friendly neighbourhood.
Greta took a deep breath and then turned to look at Ginny before motioning her hand towards the woman before she introduced her. " Ginny this is Madam Regina, the Madam of the house and second prince's mother." Then she looked at Madam Regina and pointed her hand at Ginny before introducing her as well. " And she is the new maid, Ginevra Harlow."
Ah, so she was Regina.
The woman who was once a holy priestess and was endowed with the holy powers by the Goddess herself before she let herself get entangled with the Emperor and was cursed by the Goddess for her betrayal, the exact words of the Goddess were —— ' Since you adore the company of men so much then become a being whose life is dependent on them', the words of the Goddess echoed through the entire Empire after Regina betrayed her and was succumbed to a mere succubus from the holy maiden of the temple.
The Goddess abandoned her and the Emperor who only chased after Regina because of her connections to the temple and the powers that she had as the holy priestess, also lost his interest in her. Then before she could even give birth to her son, she was thrown into this wasteland by the Emperor.
No wonder she had such a nasty attitude.
" Aren't you going to greet me?" asked Madam Regina, with her eyes narrowed ever so slightly.
" She can't speak," Greta immediately answered, clearly worried that Madam Regina might harm Ginny. " She is a mute, your grace, why bother yourself with a mute?"
" A mute huh?" This time pure ecstasy flashed in Madam Regina's eyes, obviously delighted to see Ginny's suffering.
Ginny nodded before sinking into a bow to greet the Madam, she was going to work here from now on, it would be better to keep a low profile and not mess with anyone.
Though she thought that, it didn't mean that no one was going to mess with her just because she didn't mess with them. After she bowed in front of Madam Regina, the latter never allowed her to stand up straight, she was trying to use her status as her master to show Ginny the place where she belonged.
Finally, after a few minutes, Greta couldn't help but speak, " Madam, do you want something from the new maid? Should I send her to get you, your daily tea?"
" There is no need for that," said Madam Regina in a clipped voice before she finally allowed Ginny to stand up. " Rise."
Relieved, Ginny straightened up. She was worried that she had to stay like that for another ten minutes.
" Is she here to be an attendant to my son?" asked Madam Regina as she addressed Greta who nodded after hesitating for a while. " You don't need to worry madam, I have checked her background, she is clean. Never got entangled with any man and kept her distance from them. And since the old batch was fired I think we have to make do with those who were chosen."
" Fired?" chuckled Madam Regina with amusement dancing in her eyes. " Is that what you told her?"
"Madam, please." Greta stressed a great deal of emphasis on her 'please' as she looked at Madam Regina with a worn-out expression.
" Alright keep your hair on, I am not trying to do anything." Madam Regina waved her hand and then snapped her folding fan close, letting Ginny see her beautiful appearance that was as majestic as an enchantress with hair as dark as ink, eyes that were as dark as the sea and lips that no man can resist from kissing. She strode forward and tipped Ginny's chin with the edge of her fan. " Listen, girl, I despise those girls who think that they are worth more than they really are, you are here to serve my son and you will do as he asks you to do but ——never try to get close to him. If you so much as touched the tip of his finger, then I promise that I will give you a death you would have never imagined."
As if to agree with its mistress's words Lexus the snake hissed. " In fact, it isn't too late for you to quit and get out of here, Terranova family does not welcome strangers."
