Chapter 1 - Kimi's encounter

"Girl! Watch where you're going!" The man wearing a straw hat yelled at her and she swivelled.

"Sorry—" she waved her hand at him and he shook his head, before returning to pick his fresh tomatoes that were splattered on the floor.

Kimi is the only child of her parent, or so she was told when the war started between the Vampires and other creatures, humans wolves and witches. She was pretty her long brunette hair was casually packed into a bun, and under her immensely bright eyeball was the hazel coloured iris, she had a high nose and pink lips that looked like red cherry tomatoes, even without a gloss, she was a beautiful youngster that had turned rogue.

With nothing, she slept on the street like every other refugee, the kingdom of Gandour, never really welcome them, it was ruled by a vampire, among others, he was considered to be ruthless and kind to have harbour other creatures in his kingdom.

Kimi was a free-spirited girl or so she had decided to live her life. Cold and haze will fall and as lowly creatures, they have left with nothing but just a robe and the best place they often get was the manger, in the palace they were slaves and maids, devoid of looking at the face of their masters.

"Where is it? Give it to me." The woman in a black cloak snapped at Kimi and she jingle with the pillow of beads in her hand showing it to her face.

"Payment first, lad." She demanded.

"I promise to give you later." She said sharply in her Persely accent, she was also a refugee that got lucky to be the chief maid to the queen.

Persely once started the exorcism a long time ago, killing witches and calling them evil, it was a hard time where nobody cared about their origin and as the gate of Gandour was open to them.

"Now or never." Kimi was mean and ready for her, the prior time she ran errands for her, she just ditched her and refused to pay the poor girl for her service.

"Come on, it would be hard to find someone as fast and hardworking as me don't you think?" She added and the woman's face reddened, time was not on her side, and the minutes she wastes here, the queen will infinitely feed her fat tongue to the ferals in the dungeon or even worse throw her there, she had seen her do it and she was not an exception.

Sweat dampen on her forehead, the queen's preparation for the king's arrival was a toll on her chubby ass. She heaved a sigh.

"Fine." She said and then dipped her hand into her pocket, and brought out the exchange, money. "Take, it's five pence." She placed it in the road of her hand, there were marks ascribed to every creature seeking asylum, to the wolves was the sign of the crescent moon and Kimi had one, the witches had the sign of blossoming flowers, which was the woman's carpal.

"It's seven!" She said stubbornly glaring at the woman.

"Fine!" She said as she added two more coins, Kimi hazel eyes fluttered in excitement, she then handed the pillow to her and the woman for the second time peered through it.

"Thanks and don't forget to contact me next time." She said as she smiled sheepishly with the coins in her hand, at least she won't have to bother about breakfast for some days, she had been going hungry and her stomach keep begging her for compensation.

"What are you doing there?" She yelled at him, she had never been fond of those high-class harpy creatures, the road was filled with horses and Carriages filled with sacks and loads of cereals and wheat, and the town reeked of animal blood that soon the animals might go into extinction and they will start sinking their fangs into the humans and other creature as their prey and predators.

The man spread his cloak and dragged her from getting railed by the carriage, it was so fast her eyes were still in denial.

Head bent she smelled his cologne with her wolf nose, it was so luxurious and nose appealing she didn't want to raise her head, not for a split second. Normally vampires smelled of rotten corpses but he wasn't the slightest.

"Are you okay?" The man asked peeping through to see if she was unscathed.

Kimi's raised her head and meet those piercing ruby red eyes of her saviour. Handsome was an under the statement, he was ravishingly beautiful, with sharp features that accentuated his chiselled body that reflected even in the cloak, judging from his intimidating presence, he was a high ranking vampire.

Kimi locked eyes with the vampire she was breath taken by his astounding beauty, weren't they at the odd, he was beautiful and could live for as long as he wished, handsome rich and blessed with immortality. She was stubborn and consumed by his cold aura, which gave her chills in her bone, it was custom they bowed down to any of the higher creatures, worshipping the ground they walked upon.

"Let me go, bloodsucker." She growled shrugging his hand from her elbow, she had never liked vampires and had cursed them for the mystery she is going through.

"You're being rude to your saviour." He said in his deep and husky voice that sent a shiver through her, lost in her daydream she barely forgot he was one of those creatures she hated, his eyes were not as terrible as the ones she had seen walking down the market in a carrier couple of times. His eyes were dark and mysterious.

The guards rushed towards the man that was standing close to her, and with the satchel of their sword, pushed her far into the mud causing her to fall.

"My lord are you okay?" the soldier in a red kimono said as he opened the door wide for him to enter.

The man in a silver cloak, displeased at what he did shrugged him off and went ahead into his carriage.

"The locals are dangerous and you shouldn't stand alone with them," he said as the carriage kicked into the road, he looked through the opaque linen to was covering part of the bamboo tree carved carriage.

Kimi was sullen in the mud and a bitter chuckle escaped her mouth as if she enjoyed the pleasure of what the guards did. She dipped her hand into her red pant and find that her coin had gone missing, her stomach rumbled in her face and she squeeze her eyes shut, rich yet kleptomaniac.
