Chapter 3 - Terra Rises

New Geneva, General Secretary's Office, 700 AB (Present)

First-Person PoV

It has been a week since the raid. Although the city's infrastructure was barely affected, with a few non-vital buildings burnt down, the fact that 50 people had been killed or wounded in the raid had many people in mourning.

I, on the other hand, did not have the time. As the ruler of the nation of Terra, I had to respond to this crisis ASAP. With the aid of Captain Becker, I had summoned some things like barracks, a Government Headquarters, and other important infrastructure such as industry. A small police force had been summoned to maintain law and order within New Geneva. The troops had been sent out tasked with scouting out the surrounding areas.

In other news, I had declared myself General Secretary of the Republic of Terra following a speech to the citizens of Terra regarding the raid. The raiders had been branded as terrorists, and I had promised that the Republic of Terra would not falter in the face of this threat. From what I had seen, the attackers seemed to have primitive, medieval-era technology. Using weapons such as long swords and axes.

The military was also expanded. Currently, the Terran Army consists of about 1,000 men. About the size of a battalion. The Army had also obtained many WW2 era Armoured Vehicles and Artillery Pieces, such as the German Sd.Kfz. 251and Panzer IV, Russian T-34, German 88mm Flak, and American M114 155 mm Howitzer. The Terran Air Force had also been established, also consisting of WW2 era aircraft such as the British Supermarine Spitfires, German Junkers Ju 87, British Lancaster Bomber, and American B-29. There were about less than 100 Aircraft.

"General Secretary, the 4 and 5th platoons have finished their survey missions in the North." announced recently promoted, Lieutenant-Colonel Becker. "Good, what do you have for me?" I asked as I sipped on a cup of coffee at my desk. "There are no settlements within 50 Kilometers North, our citizens have begun to settle within these regions. About 75 Kilometer North, our troops have discovered 2 nations, the Kaze Kingdom and the Kingdom of Silvestria." "Yes, I know about them. What can you tell me about both Kingdoms?"

"The 2 Kingdoms seem to be at war with one another. Further details are not known." I was a bit surprised at this. "If we were to attempt to be friends with either one of these nations, we might be forced to pick a side to support... This has just made things troublesome... Well, what do we know about those that attacked us last week?"

"The attackers seem to be from an unnamed tribe. Their settlement is situated just 53 Kilometers East of New Geneva. Their population is about 1,000, they seem to support their livelihoods through pillaging and raiding towns and villages. I believe that we should launch an attack on them as soon as possible, we have superior firepower and total air superiority. I believe a force of 400 men accompanied by 20 Tanks supported by some APCs, field artillery, ground attack aircraft, and bombers, will be more than sufficient of defeating them." I put down my cup of coffee "Hmm... I don't want to use force to settle this yet, have our airforce drop leaflets asking for their surrender and hand over those responsible for the attack to be put on trial. If they do not respond, you have my permission to carry out the offensive."

"Yes, General Secretary." replied the Lieutenant-Colonel as she saluted and left the room.

2 Avro Lancaster Bombers with payloads of leaflets took off from an RTAF Airbase with a few Spitfires as an escort.

East of New Geneva, Tribal Settlement, Shortly Later

Third-Person PoV

An elvish slave looked around as he heard a strange heard strange humming noise in the distance, he had more sensitive hearing compared to others. 'Crack' "Quit stalling and get back to work elf!" bellowed the master as he cracked his whip in the air, the elf hastily went back to work in fear of being whipped or even killed.

He was simply a farmer from the Kingdom of Silvestria, captured during a raid just 2 months ago. Because of the war, the Silvestrian government was too distracted to deal with such raids. The regional tribes knew of this and had formed an alliance to coordinate raids on the Kingdoms of Silvestria and Kaze so that they can capture slaves to sell for profit. One of their biggest customers was the Magus Empire, situated just 210 Kilometers from the coast.

The Empire of Magus was a strong regional power that was, as its name suggests, extremely powerful in the arts of magic. In exchange for slaves, the Magus had trained some of the members of the tribes magic to aid in their operations, in addition to payment. The Magus needed slaves to do manual labour, such as tending to farms and mining. Although strides in magical research were being made, the Magus Empire still had to mostly rely on manual labour since most magical methods were currently too expensive or less effective in comparison. Magus Citizens also disliked working in such low-wage jobs, so the domestic workforce in such sectors was very few.

This slave's name was Adrian, it was a common first name in Silvestria. He was one of the first citizens of the kingdom summoned by the hero, Queen Eleanor of the Kingdom of Silvestria. She was from an alternate Earth where magic existed and elves ruled over humans. Scientific Research was looked down on and those who pursued it were discriminated against because most saw Magic as the rightful path.

Adrian sighed as he went back to ploughing the fields. Suddenly, the humming noise got even louder, other workers and his human masters heard it too and stopped what they were doing. High in the sky, large shapes in the air were spotted. Everyone was in awe of this, wondering what they were.

"Dragon attack! Dragon attack!" shouted one of the guards who ran out of the plantation to warn others. Archers and Mages attempted to shoot down the unidentified flying objects with arrows and fireballs, but none came close to their targets. As they flew directly overhead, Adrian looked up and saw that the flying beast was metallic in nature. The larger ones had open bellies where papers were being dropped from.

Everyone was scared, surprised, and confused. Was this some sort of magical attack? Adrian decided to pick up one of the papers. It was smooth and white, not like the paper he uses at home. He notices some words on the other side, flips it around, and reads the contents. It gives him and the other slaves some hope.

"How dare that new upstart hero look down on us like this, look what this says! 'demand an apology for the incident'??? The nerve! And that's not all, 'hand over those responsible for the attack'? They dare ask for such a thing? Assemble a war party now!" shouted the chief as he tore the paper to shreds.

"But honourable one, they have tamed metal dragons and wyverns, as long as they have them, we will not be able to claim victory. I suggest we utilise our alliance with the other tribes, I know of a few tribes with dragons and wyverns. It would be right to assume that the new hero does not have many of those metal dragons. We will crush him easily with our numbers and your leadership!" says one of his advisers.

"Hmm... Very well! Send a message to all tribes, the impudence of the new hero must be crushed if we want our slave operations to go smoothly! We can even get more slaves from this..."

"Emilia, it's been a while since we sent out the message to the tribe, hasn't it? I thought the sight of our aircraft would scare them into submission." I ask as I take a sip of coffee. "Indeed it has General Secretary Samuel, those savages should have given in long ago... We should prepare for Operation Vengeance." replies Emilia, now a Major General. The Army has been expanded to 10,000 men, about the size of a division. I recently reached Level 5, meaning that I could summon more and the tech year was raised to 1943. American P-51 'Mustang' long-ranged fighters had been introduced into the Airforce to escort bombers. The German Panzer VI, also known as the 'Tiger I' Heavy Tank was added to the Terran Army's Tank Fleet.

"Very well, prepare the troops for the assault." Suddenly, a soldier barged into the room. "General Secretary sir! Sorry for the intrusion, but the RTAF reports that one of their patrolling Spitfires spotted a large movement of troops towards Terran territory from the east, it is estimated that they number around 30,000! They also have some land and flying creatures accompanying them" Emilia and I stand up upon hearing this news. "Emilia, mobilise all forces to counter this threat immediately. It seems that we have our reply."

"Yes, General Secretary."

Trucks and APCs containing Terran infantry, Tanks, and Towed Artillery heading towards the eastern border are seen all over New Geneva and surrounding Terran settlements as a nationwide curfew was imposed. Aircraft took off from airports and airbases across the Republic.
