KRISTOS
Sanders looked up from his reading. I never understood how the Beta was able to read so nonchalantly in open spaces. Betas didn't have the same heightened senses as Alphas. People could easily sneak up on them – something I was becoming more accustomed to as my zoning out episodes increased.
But Sanders didn't seem to mind, so much so that he always chose the center table in the library. I wasn't a fan. The Beta threw me a small smile and waved me over, "Where did you run off to after lunch? You skipped the quiz in Calc."
I slid into an empty seat across from Sanders, "The question is whether or not I'm still going to pass."
The Beta chuckled, stretching and leaning back in his chair. He crossed his arms across his chest, "You do realize that if you ever want a job, your grades are going to have to be somewhat decent, right?"
"Maybe I don't want a job." I spit out at the Beta. I wasn't really feeling up to any games right now, not after watching the power play between the Zeta and the Omega. I wasn't sure what to think – especially after noticing that she had been aroused by my smell, not just comforted.
Sanders sighed, "You're a hopeless case, you know?" He cocked his head to the side, studying me for a moment. The Beta seemed confused. He sniffed, his demeanor shifting. "You smell like angry Omega. Care to explain?"
I hung his head. "I found her." I should have been ecstatic. I had found a scent I enjoyed. But nothing about the situation made me feel like good things were ahead.
"Who?"
I leaned in, not needing the entire library knowing about my business. I didn't even need Sanders to know, but I felt a duty to share. That and Sanders would find out eventually. "The Zeta."
The Beta sat there processing the information, "Are you fucking kidding me? I saw how you reacted to her scent and… you fucking went over there?"
"I think… I think she's in heat."
Sanders shook his head, "That's not fucking possible."
"I know. She seemed really surprised too."
"That you found her."
I let out a deep breath, "Yes? She'd never had a heat either. She seemed confused."
Sanders ran his hands through his head, exasperated. "I'm fucking confused. This goes against everything we've learned. Ever."
I knew as much, I was still trying to wrap my brain around it, "I know. I know."
Sanders licked his lips and leaned back into the table, "So? What happened?"
A frown spread across my face as I deciphered Sanders' expression, "I… took her back to her room."
Sanders scooted forward, his eyes growing wide but I could see right through the guy, "And?" The Beta licked his lips greedily again as if he were about the receive the best information in the world.
"No, I didn't have sex with her."
"But you wanted to."
I shrugged. I hadn't been as lucky this time around, having to take a detour in the gym locker room to jerk off before my dick finally softened. I hadn't cum that hard in a while but I wasn't going to tell Sanders that. "My body reacted to her like it does Omegas in heat, but I didn't want to. I… was really confused."
That was not entirely true.
Sanders shook his head, clicking his tongue, "That's a strange fetish dude and… not really sustainable."
I sighed again. I didn't like the turn in the conversation. "She said my scent was safe."
Sanders almost looked disgusted, "Zetas don't like anyone's scents. At all. You know that."
The bit of biology that I thought I understood was beginning to be a hindrance. "It gets worse during a heat. A pre-heat? Whatever it is. Food tastes gross too. I don't know… I'm worried for her."
"You guys talked?" Yet another one of those things that I decided not to answer as I averted my attention back to the table. Sanders didn't dwell on it. "Well, it's good to know that you're semi-normal." I scrunched my nose but didn't comment. "You've been through nearly four years of college and you haven't tried to jump anyone in heat before, not even reacted. I was beginning to think that something was wrong with you."
And there it was. Sanders wasn't different from the rest. He thought I wasn't normal because I hadn't hooked up more than once in college. I weathered my expression, trying to hide my disappointment in the Beta. Sanders could probably smell it though.
"Whatever, she probably is bonded with an Omega." Sanders stated. He didn't seem impressed with the entire situation.
"She is." Kristos mumbled.
Sanders raised an eyebrow, less than amused, "But what? Why do you sound so-"
"It doesn't seem like a good bond."
Sanders spit out another laugh, "With the Omega?" I nodded. The Omega had been fierce and rough, but not in a good way. She hadn't exuded any of the cuddly warmth I was used to seeing from a bonded Omega. And the Zeta had been just as strange when her Omega had shown up. The Omega's scent had been brutal once I noticed it. I had no idea how the Zeta was able to deal with that constantly.
Sanders nudged his hand, "Did you at least know the Zeta?"
"I don't remember her name. I – she's in some of our classes." There were always a few Zetas littered in every STEM major at the university. It just happened that this year, there was only one in the entire chemistry curriculum.
Sanders sat back again, "Fuuuck. That one?" He ran his fingers through his hair and I just stared at him, "You really don't keep up with things, do you? Her Omega is brutal." I didn't respond to that. "That Omega has got the only Zeta I've ever met that actually acts like a pet in a bonded pair. If you couldn't smell that Omega, you'd think she was an Alpha."
I dropped my head to the desk, running my fingers through my hair. That Omega had been dripping with raw aggression. It was unflattering at best. I also got the feeling that she wasn't fond of being an Omega either. But I would keep that information to myself.
Sanders snapped at me, drawing my attention back to him. I kept losing my concentration over the Zeta. I didn't like it. However, I hated it more that I couldn't smell her from here. There was definitely something wrong with me. Sanders snapped again, "Do not and I repeat, do not mess that Omega. I'm telling you, she's not an enemy even you want to make. That girl is the Dean's daughter."
