Chapter 2 - Conflicting Plans?!

With the claws of the beautiful demon in front of me about to skewer my eyeballs, I bumped into the back of the room, which was right above the doorway. With this surface I could use as traction, I crunch my legs and ducked under those menacing claws, managing to get a powerful uppercut to the, well, gut of the demon, sending her bouncing off the ceiling and slamming directly onto the pedestal smashing it to smithereens.

Hopping down towards the rubble, I am surprised at how easy it was to defeat the supposed 'invisible Demon Lord'. Kicking pieces of rubble, I managed to uncover a bruised Demon Lord, coughing out particles of stone. Grabbing her under her waist, I hoisted her up and set her down on a large piece of marble, crossing my arms and waiting for her to be able to talk.

"Hey, Trash Hero! You should be getting my back to safety, not helping the detestable demons!" Tugging on my arm annoyingly, the Princess huffed and puffed and cursed me out for the next couple of minutes, before going towards the back wall and squatting down, pouting. With the princess facing the wall in an attempt to get me to leave, I walked over towards the Demon Lord, who was holding her and had her leg bent at an awkward angle.

"So, human, you have defeated me, and with ease at that. It seems I have underestimated you. Though that Princess's incessant nagging and curses didn't help my preparedness either." The Demon Lord said, mumbling the last part.

"About that, why did you want to kidnap the princess in the first place? Not only would that anger an entire nation, but I don't think it would help you in any way, especially with the amount of firepower you already have, defeating five of the greatest warriors in the land." I said, trying to sound sad about something I didn't experience. It seemed to work, as a small amount of pity showed in the eyes of the woman before me, wings drooping, sort of like those of a bunny.

"It was never my intention to involve any humans in my plans. It only escalated to this point DUE to you disgusting humans." The demon said with anger and conviction. Surprising me, I had to ask what the humans did to anger something as powerful as the entire demon race.

"Long ago, way before there was a large kingdom, there was one man who was thought to be the strongest person in the world. His name was Merlin. The stories told of his massive magic capacity and physical power, such as conjuring hurricanes with a flick of his hand, blowing apart multiple mountain ranges with a single punch, and many other feats no one else could hope to accomplish.

"The previous Demon Lord, named Vicious, treated the entire race not only as friends but as family. Anything needed of him was given, no matter the importance. He was dubbed the most respectful and hardworking being in the world, well, based on the ancient texts. However, a scout who was looking for a group of lost elite demons came across the world-renowned Merling. As he was about to escape, he heard something that would be the downfall of the demon.

"He overheard that Merlin had a plan to eradicate the demons, and was concluded to have a complex of superiority, which allowed him to climb the ranks of power ruthlessly. Although his ruthless acts were done in broad daylight, it was proven that he manipulated the ancient texts to say otherwise. After hearing such a thing coming from his most trusted advisor, Vicious sent his army out to kill this man.

"After his army was utterly defeated, he challenged Merlin himself. Even while using all of his magical prowess to fight Merlin, he was defeated. Not wanting the rest of his kind to know he eradicated an entire race for selfish reasons, he rewrote the history books and used his name and prestige to spread false information." The current Demon Lord said.

"If that is all true, why did you kidnap the princess? She has no connection to this from what you have told me." I stated, countering her justification. Indeed, there is no mention of why the princess needs to be saved. Why would they need a human to defeat other humans? Especially a princess as arrogant and bratty as this one.

"I need someone of royal blood to sacrifice to the god of death, which is a ritual that could bring back the power of Vicious, making our race repopulate, as the power of the original Demon Lord can turn monsters into demons, and even humans, should all his power be revived. As every demon knows, or what is left of them," I got a glare from the demon as she said the latter, "The king and his spouses all have a portion of Merlin's bloodline in them, making their sacrifice much more potent, if not the only way to bring back Viciouses power."

"But that raises the question, why did you not simply kill her and bring her to the castle instead of capturing her. I'm sure that it was much more of a hassle than the former." I said, still unsure of whether to believe her or not. I was leaning towards the belief part.

"It was a decision on my part, I admit. Although it was a hassle, as you say, it served two purposes. The First was, of course, to be able to sacrifice her and lose none of her blood, and the second is to bring someone of a pure heart that has no steely resolve to serve the humans. So, as soon as I heard that someone was summoned to this world, I immediately put my plan into action, which worked smoothly. What I did not expect was my army to go rogue, which ultimately led to the downfall of said army, as well as eradicating what was left of the remaining demons."

"So, what you are telling me is you risked millions of lives, an entire army, and the hope that I would not kill you and getting fame and wealth just for the sliver of a possibility that your hunch would be correct and demons could be revived with the power of this 'Vicious' character?" I said.
