Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

"I found that in Nathan Shin's office," I stated and handed my sister's bracelet to officer Ijaldo.

He puts it inside a ziplock and speaks, "You didn't touch it with your bare hand, right?" he asked.

I shook my head, "No, I didn't. I have my gloves on," I confirmed.

"Good, if we found out Nathan's fingerprint is in here, that's when we will take some actions," he stated.

I nods and covered my face with my hands. "I'm getting nervous," I whispered.

"Ericka, calm down. We still don't know what really happened," he consoled. "You need to grip yourself and control your emotion," he added.

"I'm trying! But it's really frustrating. It frustrates me that I don't know anything!" I yelled in annoyance.

"Just stay inside the company and get close to the CEO as much as possible. Don't cause any troubles, don't raise any suspicions, just act normal and observe," he instructed.

"Yeah, I will," I agreed.

"That's all for now, you should get rest already," he state and stood up from his chair.

"But officer, I'm curious about something," I started that made him stop and looked at me.

"What is it?" he asked.

"What really is your connection to my sister? Why are you helping me? Can I really trust you? C-can you answer me?" I asked to him.

He shows me his smile. "I already told you why I am doing this. It's because I also wanted justice for your sister. Don't worry, I know it's normal for you to doubt but you can trust me with anything," he stated. "Then, I'm going now—"

"Thank you, officer," I cut him off. I stand up and face him. "Thank you for helping me," I stated my gratitude.

He then ruffles the top of my head like a kid. "Your sister deserves the justice that she needs. Don't worry and take a rest for now," he replied.

He bid his goodbye after that and left me in the restaurant that is near from where I am living. I walk back to my unit and when I reached my room, I immediately sleep because of too much tiredness.

It's been a long tiring day again in the company and we're having lunch in the cafeteria. The lunch time of other employees are already done so there are only few workers eating with us right now.

"By the way Ericka, I saw you coming from the parking lot earlier. Do you have a car?" Marco asked.

"Ahh yeah, I do," I answered.

"You do and that means you don't need to have this kind of job. Did you finish college?" he asked again.

I nod, "Yeah, I studied Business Administration that is focusing more in promotional strategies, I passed the board exam, and eventually got a job in an advertisement company, then I left," I shared.

He gasped while Auntie Leah stayed calm and unbothered. "What did you say again? You passed the boards? So why are you here and not in the PR department?" he almost shouted at me.

I smirk, "Ask that d*mn CEO of this company. He seems threatened," I replied and continued eating.

"You two stop talking and finish your food. We're going to work after this," Aunt Lea interrupted us so we stopped talking and then gets back to work.

It's late in the evening and I'm assigned to clean the behind hallway. I'm about to finish my work when I heard some voices talking not that far from me.

"Boss, we manage to deliver the parcels on time," I heard from the guy who's almost bald and is talking with much respect to another man standing infront of me that's why I cannot see his face.

"That's good, the president will be delighted to know that. Those are precious goods," the other man replied and let out an evil laugh.

What are they talking about and who are they?

Because I was too focused on listening to their conversation I didn't realized I already let go of the mop I'm holding that cause such noise.

My eyes widen when they are about to look back but then someone grabbed me and hide me behind the wall. I held my breath when I saw him covering my mouth and pinning me against the wall. I tried to resist but he's stronger than me so I don't have any chance against him.

"Who's in there?" I heard from the same voice earlier.

My eyes widen and I look at Nathan in panic. He looked at me and gestured to shut my mouth. I nod at him then he stepped out.

"It's me," Nathan stated.

"Oh, it's just you Sir Nathan," other man replied. "About the d—"

"Let's talk about it some other time, I still have business to do tonight. Can we?" Nathan immediately stated.

"O-oh of course! We can, sir. There's no need to rush, everything is getting smooth," he replied.

"Okay, I'll get going now," Nathan bid his goodbye and then I heard his footsteps retreats.

"What was that? I thought he was eager to talk to us tonight?" that's the last line I heard from the other man and then they walk away.

I immediately run towards where Nathan is and I saw him getting on the elevator. I squeezed myself in and now we're in the elevator together. "Should I say thanks?" I started the conversation.

"If it saved your life then maybe, yes," he replied.

"I will never be thankful to the likes of you," I countered.

"I don't need it anyway," he shot back that made me look at him. "About the bracelet you saw in my office, where was it now?" he asked.

I held my emotion inside me and just casually answer his question. "I throw it away, like you ordered," I replied.

"That's good," he stated.

"Why? Don't want any evidence if your girl inside your office?" I mocked him.

"Yeah, maybe or maybe not," he replied playing safe.

"As*****," I muttered.

The elevator opens and I get off but before the door closed I speak. "Sir Nathan, I'm looking forward on working in here," I stated.

I saw him smirk. "Keep on getting interesting Ms. Ericka, I might promote you sooner," he replied as the door closes.
