Beriz was a brilliant man who rose from a common family. He relied mostly on himself, through his efforts to arrive to where he was right now. Of course, his family helped him in one way or another. But without his hard work, then he would not be at where he was right now. Without a backing to support him as a starter, it could be truly an achievement worth to be learnt by people.
Everyone faced their own troubles to achieve their own goals. And right now, Beriz faced a hurdle in front of him that was unlike before. He indirectly involved himself into the intricacies of politics by offending some people, which were the nobles.
He was offered a spot to include himself into a project, together with the nobles and the other parties. It was a project about fundraising to help the orphans. Just by this statement alone, this project could raise intrigues for the pessimist and the optimist, depicting two contrasting ends.
It was either a very good activity that helped the society, especially the ones who needed the help, or a very evil vigor that had the audacity to fool the public by taking advantage of the misery from the people that they were supposedly about to help and kept most of the donation for themselves.
'And unfortunately, the project that Beriz was being offered to was like the latter one. Not only did the fundraisers take most of the money that they had gotten, they mocked the orphans by giving them the minimum help that they could get.' Enjar grinned in a mocking way.
After realizing that something was not right about this fundraising, Beriz stepped aside and did not intend to join this conspiracy. Yes, he may be mocked because he did not join the 'good' cause. Yes, he may be sidelined because he did not want to partake in this together.
Just like what the 'common sense' said, join the 'winning' side. You would not be antagonized. You would not get any loss and disadvantage. You even helped the orphans, even though it may be minimal. 'At least we helped them', that's the reassurance, even knowing full well how much they corrupted the wealth.
The weak would be forced to join, the coward would be forced to partake, but Beriz conscience did not submit to this atrocity. Because of this, he indirectly offended many parties, including the nobles that had partaken on the matter. Beriz himself did not have any power regarding this. He did not have any backers, he was not born from a noble family, never mind the royal family.
This level of corruption was not noticed by the higher ups. The kingdom itself especially was still in a pretty tense situation for some reason. They did not 'have' the time to solve these kinds of cases.
And more than that, there were no victims in this case, right? Secondly, the participants naturally had taken some precautions regarding this, so they had their own reassurance in covering up their deeds.
The foundations were established, and the plan was put into motion. Enjar was not aware of this behind the scene activity until he dug it deeper from the little information that he had gotten. He was not offered to be part of the participants for whatever reason. Thinking about this, Enjar scoffed out loud.
The onlookers who were walking or passing around him were dumbfounded when they saw a man was laughing like a maniac, albeit just for a while. They did not see anything funny around them. They just shrugged their shoulders off and mind their own business. And some whispered around themselves, thinking that the man was mad.
Enjar kept walking to his destination without even caring for the little disturbance that he had created. His eyes were showing sharp glints as he muttered under his breath.
"Beriz o Beriz, I'm having my hopes high on you my man.." His sharp, white teeth were showing their malignancy as he walked away.
Enjar kept walking until he saw some people dozens of meters in front of him. At first glance, it seemed that they did not have any business with Enjar at all. But upon closer inspection, their eyes were clearly showing their interest to the lone man in front of their vision. Their clothes were not poor, they looked better than most of the people in this area. There were also some guards who act as the protectors for the people around them, mostly in front of them.
Enjar's brows were raised. He took a look at the people and realized that they had come for him. Especially when he saw that there was an individual who was looking at him like he wanted to eat him whole. His eyes were clearly showing his maliciousness. With a man like him and the people behind him, it was pretty much easy to guess what kind of business they were going to do with Enjar.
"Well well well, if it's not the people from the Gril family. What kind of deeds do I owe the pleasure of having you as my guests?" Enjar said while half spreading his arms. He stopped walking in the middle of talking and stood in front of them.
He glanced at the man who was showing his animosity toward him. A mocking smile appeared on his face, as if the man in front of him was a joke worth to be spat on.
The angry man was getting angrier. He thought that by having more people with him, the man in front of him would at least waver or even be scared. But looking at his face, it showed that he did not even put them in his eyes. He gritted his teeth and shouted to him.
"Enjar! It seems that you keep on getting bolder and bolder each day! Aren't you afraid that misfortune will befall upon you?" The man claimed. He had brown hair, with a pretty high stature compared to the other people around him. His clothes were the best among them, a set of clothing made up from the better materials.
"Afraid to whom? To you who I've beaten black and blue? Puhahahat!" Enjar laughed out loud. The people that were passing got intrigued and stopped by to watch the commotion. They were curious about what was going on and who were these people that were making a show.
The man in front of Enjar was Kail Gril, the young master from the Gril family. He had a story with Enjar a few years back when Enjar still had his amnesia. Even when Enjar got his amnesia, he was still able to do things normally like how a normal human acted, it was just that he had forgotten who he was, how he came to this city, who were his family, what kind of background did he have, etc.
And in that time of amnesia, Enjar messed with the Gril family. He dealt them a big blow in their face once upon a time, and their relationship felt like it was fire and water that could not coexist together. Enjar had expected that it was about time for them to do something to him, or maybe they already did but he had not realized it yet?
After all, their loss was not insignificant. Many people called him genius and whatnot, but they never understood his struggles and efforts that he put into his plans and motions. They never saw him taking action, especially when he decided to act in the dark. Even when he acted openly, he did not deliberately do it for the purpose of seeking attention and praise.
Being meticulous and making wise moves were one of his ways to achieve great things. But he needed to be bold enough and dared himself to take great risks, which most of the time threatened his comfort zone and private life. There were many things that needed to be considered if one wanted to make a big move and somehow got recognition from many people. But did they understand that every great ambition requires great efforts?
That was the price when people called you a genius. And deep inside the heart, etched a note that 'You need to live up to their expectations.' Because if not, then your confidence might crumble and you might be left by people and get mocked for being a failure.
But was he a person who thought like that? Looking at how weird his smile was and how crazy sometimes he took actions, it was hard to put him into that category.
Hearing what Enjar had said, Kail felt like his veins on his head were about to explode. He truly could not wait to teach this man in front of him a lesson for messing with him and his family. But realizing about what he had come here for, he scoffed in disdain. He had a whole pack of people around him so what's to be afraid of him?
"Hmph! Do you think I don't dare to make you pay for what you've done?!" Kail forwarded and brandished his wooden stick to beat Enjar. The man beside him was about to stop him but he was seconds too late.
