Chapter 8 - A love so old

"Found her."

Josh was thinking about following the girl, and maybe saying something comforting or distracting just so she doesn't snitch upon his boss. But Irvyn's sudden word held him back.

"Found… her? You were looking for especially her?"

Irvyn nodded his head sideways. "I meant as I found someone perfect for the purpose I was looking for."

"You mean… wait, her?" Josh shouted out loud, his eyes almost popping out of his sockets.

"Then did you manage to find anyone else then?" Irvyn asked in an ice-cold voice, his gaze resting calmly on Josh.

Josh felt tongue-tied for a moment. Sure, he had one job specifically entrusted to himself, but it wasn't like that was something really easy. If it was finding a company to do partnership with, or finding a potential business opportunity, that would have been much easier. But he was trying to find a potential life partner here for his boss. And of course, who fulfills every criterion.

"Bro, you gotta be kidding me. She is literally like, so young and so full of dreams. You…"

"You think I am someone who would ruin someone's future?" Irvyn took a long sip on his drink, leaning his back against the sofa while resting his left hand on the armrest. "Find out everything about her. As quickly as possible. And that's an order."

Even his tone alone was pretty obvious to Josh, that right now Irvyn wouldn't be listening to anything as a friend, so the only option he had left was to abide by the orders as a dutiful subordinate should do. So he just nodded his head, accepting it. "You got it, sir."

Yvette was snapped out of her daze by the vibration of her cellphone in her hands. She was just returning home after finishing her part-time in 'Midnight Courtyard', looking outside through the window of the bus. Since it was the last bus for the night, it was pretty empty, with a few working people returning home. And the slow pitter patter of the rain, which had been going on for an hour now, without any sign to pick up loud, made the entire road even more desolate.

She received her call, putting it against her ears. "Hello, Summer?"

"Hey, Yve! How are you, my dear?" A cheerful maiden voice was heard from the other end, which was pretty much enough to make her affirm the fact that, it was none other than her best friend from childhood. Well, one of them to be exact.

"Hanging in there, Summer," she responded in a low voice, while looking at the raindrop falling on the streets with a gloomy look on her face.

There was a moment of silence on Summer's side. And when Yvette heard her talking again, the voice seemed a lot softer and filled with concern to her. "Are you still upset about Glen?"

"That's an odd chapter, and I have to put an end to it, Summer," Yvette spoke up with a hint of urgency in her voice. Maybe it was more for herself instead of Summer. "Even though… it would be nice if I was at least given a chance to do it by myself, instead of being forced."

"You had nothing to do, Yve darling. Glen has been such a bas-"

"Please don't, Summer. He is your childhood friend as well."

"YOU ARE TOO! And you matter way more than that a$$hole." Summer interrupted her, lashing out all of a sudden. "Did you go to the wedding?"

"I had to," Yvette responded.

"Why? Why did you have to go there to increase the pain you are already feeling? That bi*ch dared to even invite you for the sake of the long friendship, cheh," Summer sneered. She felt like she could go out right now and punch straight into Glen's face, even though he was both of their's dear friend. "What was he trying to be, a pure maiden now? Acting all good guy? Or trying to rub salt on the wound?"

"You didn't go there, you were invited as well, right?" Yvette tried to divert her.

"How could I? I have only hoped to have you two getting married to each other, Yve," Summer spoke up, her voice started choking up in the end, eyes getting blurry. She recalled those days when they three used to hang out together. And when Glen and Yvette decided to go out with each other, upon Glen confessing to Yvette back in their second year of middle school, Summer felt like she was handed a piece of heaven in her hands. She envisioned a cheerful Yvette, and a slightly awkward Glen, both bashfully taking the wedding vows, promising to each other to be in their better and worse. But every dream of her shattered when suddenly Glen was suddenly caught dating another pretty girl from Yvette's class back in high school. And without even explaining his evil deed or properly breaking up with Yvette, the wedding of him and that girl, who was also the daughter of a rich businessman in the Westford city, was announced. Summer felt so broken by the news, she can't even imagine what must have gone through Yvette's poor, kind heart.

"You are too kind, Yve. if it was anyone else, they would've at least kicked his balls for betraying you so nastily like this."

Yvette let out a dry laugh at her words. "Do you think that would have helped me in any way?"

"Oh please, he doesn't deserve to be using that anymore, if he all gotta do is to think through that d-ck," Summer snorted in response. "Anyway, forget about that a$$. I have a nice idea to cheer up your mood."

"What is it?"

"My dad arranged me a date with some guy this weekend. But I have my audition that day, and I definitely can't miss the golden opportunity to be a model for the top fashion brand in the city." Summer lowered her voice into a pleading tone, hoping to have her friend convinced. So, could you please go in my stead, and possibly explain to that guy something and cancel that arrangement? Or maybe, go try having a few dates, and know more people. Who knows, maybe you will be able to find someone more deserving and fitting for you."
