Even though these past few days, she had been pondering over this question, thinking about the marriage proposal, what she thought about even more was, did Aunt Su's thoughts mirror Brother's? Was it Aunt Su's wish for her to marry Brother, or did Brother also wish to marry her?
She didn't know, so she couldn't be sure.
Aunt Su's kindness to her was as heavy as a mountain; were it not for Aunt Su taking her in, she wouldn't know where she might be now, what kind of life she might be living. Most of the Xu family's close relatives were no longer around, either having been abroad for many years without contact, or, at the time of her father's death, they had quickly divided up the Xu family's properties.
Even if anyone were willing to take her in, it would be for the money her father left her.
