Chereads / Revenge, of The Demon-Human Darius / Chapter 16 - Orientation

Chapter 16 - Orientation

The booming voice continues.

"please follow in a orderly fashion and keep the floating luggages near you."

one of the teachers starts walking, making the signal to follow him.

"I think he is the one, that is using the voice projection spell."

we all walk together following the male teacher, while the other teachers are on the edges to keep us from wandering too far from the group, and while everyone is using the floating spell for their luggages, except for me who is the only carrying my stuff using my body, Halvine takes notice of this and asks upon us entering into the main lobby entrance of the academy.

"why are you carrying your luggage like that?"

I answer, as the teacher explains using the voice projection spell, on how the main lobby can be used to easily navigate our way through the academy.

"I don't really use magic, and carrying my stuff by hand, is useful strenght training for me."

Ryan looks at me like I said something profound.

"I can't believe I didn't think of that."

he lowers his luggage towards him and stops using the floating spell.

"I'll also use this opportunity to get some strength training."

Halvine rolls her eyes at me.

"how can you not use magic?"

I reply with a serious tone.

"I was never any good with magic, so I dedicated myself on becoming the best swordsman."

she replies showing some genuine concern.

"it's all good, magic isn't for everyone, but it doesn't mean that should completely give up on it."

I think to myself.

"at least she didn't have any negative emotions that time."

she then said with a smug face.

"if you join me, I'll grace you with my presence and personally train you in magic."

well whatever positive thoughts I had about her, just dissappeared, so I respond dismissively.

"yeah sure."

the teacher leads us through the halls, explaining which classrooms are for what subjects we'll be studying, and as we continue he explains why the classrooms and hallways are currently empty.

"usually the hallways are filled with students, but on orientation day, the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth years get the day off."

we then climb some stairs that is on the back side of the main building, and while climbing towards the sixth floor, the teacher said with the booming voice.

"there are six set of stairs, and the other four are split in two sets on the sides of the building and each floor is similar to each other, so students don't have memorize the layouts of the floors."

we arrive at the sixth floor, and gather outside of the headmaster's office.

"Headmaster Lewis will be out in a moment to greet you all."

Ryan nudges me on the shoulder.

"so is there a reason you're not accepting her offer to serve the Laconia family?"

I whisper being honest.

"I was serving a crazy demon woman before, and I'm in no hurry to serve anyone else, no matter how good the offer may seem."

he whispers.

"I understand brother, I just want you to know I'll always have your back with whatever choice you make."

Halvine snarls at Ryan.

"don't encourage him to do that."

he nudges me with his elbow in a teasing manner.

"looks like someone likes you."

she glares at him.

"you have a death wish?"

he clears his throat while holding back a snicker.

"sorry Miss Laconia it won't happen again."

Headmaster Lewis comes out from his office and gives an unenthusiastic speech.

"welcome to Hultan Academy, where you can carve out whatever your future you wish, and have a life that most commoners could only dream of."

he sighs and continues.

"the dorms have already been assigned and you will find five sets of the standard Hultan Academy

Uniforms, and your Student Identification Cards, that you need to activate using the magic in your body."

he looks at a couple students in the crowd and said.

"yes even the students who come from distinguished families, but once you get your I.D and uniform you can head on over to your family owned residential houses."

A couple of them in the crowd groan at the thought of going to the regular dorm, Headmaster

sigsh to their reaction.

"it's just formality, you'll be in your residential homes by the end of the day."

he then looks at all of us and said.

"good luck to all of you, and make good use of your time here."

he then returns back inside into his office.

surprised by his abrupt exit, the teacher in charge stammers a bit, before using his booming voice.

"let's move the tour to the Hultan Arena."

we climb downstairs and leave through the back exit of the main building, and we are met with a spacious, grassy and green field, with gazebos and pavilions scattered throughout, I take in the sights.

"not too shabby."

the teacher guides us to our left and the sight of large arena is unavoidable, an oval elliptical structure made of stone, concrete, and tuff, and it stands four stories tall at its highest point, I then think to myself.

"looks similar to the gladiator arenas that are in the Demon Cities."

the teacher then said with excitement in his voice.

"we hold sporting events between the family houses usually every week and also hold battle tournaments every year during the mid year."

I spot some students giving each other competitive looks, and I assume they are from either from the major noble families or the minor noble families, I then wonder.

"it sounds like fun, if I serve the Laconia family, there might be a chance for me to get involved in those events."

the teacher then guides us away from the Hultan Arena.

"whenever any of you get any free time, take the chance to explore the arena."

we make our way across the grassy field, and towards another building, where the teacher stops and said.

"well that concludes orientation, I'll call out your name and give you your assigned dorm key."

while he begins to call out names, Ryan asks me.

"are you planning on staying in the normal dorms or are you joining us?"

I chuckle.

"you already sound like a Laconia servant."

Halvine shoots me a dirty look.

"I only accepted him, because I want you."

I tease her, trying to get a snarky response.

"oh, so foward, if you had that attraction towards me, then you should have revealed it much earlier."

but she didn't give me any snark, instead she played with her hair nervously and ask with her cheeks turning completely red.

"what do you mean?"

I sigh.

"this look doesn't suit you."

Ryan place his hand on my shoulder and whispers to me.

"brother, she is a girl, you need to be more sensitive with her feelings."

I take a moment to think about the many ruthless women I've met in the past life and just laugh.

"as if."

she gets mad.

"you brute!"

I laugh.

"oh Miss Laconia you flatter me."

Ryan couldn't help but holler in laughter, but he gets scolded by one of the teachers.

"keep the voice level down."

he then elbows me in the side.

"you got me in trouble brother."

she growls at me.

"I hate you."

I grin.

"see now that is what I was looking for."

Ryan whispers.

"they say when you make an unforgettable impression on a girl, it can lead to potential love."

I give him a murderous look.

"I'll make an unforgettable impression out of you, when I shove my foot up your ass."

he snickers while feigning to plead to Halvine.

"oh please, save me Lady Halvine."

she then said filled with anger while pouting.

"both of you, can go to hell."

Ryan teases.

"now that is a cute reaction."

we both laugh, while she seethes but we get interrupted by the teacher calling my name.

"Darius Edwards."

I squeeze my way through the crowd, while still carrying my luggage and upon reaching to the front, the teacher hands me the key and said.

"the L stands for the floor number and the R stands for room number."

he then said.

"once you get accommodated, make sure to visit the cafeteria with your I.D active or you will miss out on free meals everyday."

he then stops me as I walk away.

"oh and do make sure, not to wander around in the girl's secrion of the dormitory and also check your class schedule it will be tucked underneath your I.D."

I walk right into the entrance of the dormitory and already run into a couple students who look a few years older than me in the first hallway in sight wearing dark green tunics, brown trousers, black traveling boots and black capes, I think to myself.

"just stick to your own and don't cause any problems."

at the end of the hallway I see a double door, with a sign hanging from the ceiling, that says Cafeteria and I think to myself.

"not really hungry right now."

I came across to the hallway cross intersection

where I accidentally bump into someone, and after we both fall I get up and offer my hand to help him out.

"my bad, I didn't see you there."

he chuckles while getting up.

"naw don't worry about it, I should have been paying attention where I was going as well."

he scratches his silver undercut hair and looks at me with his silver eyes, and shakes my hand.

"the name is Octavius Lionheart, from the up and coming Lionheart family."

I reply.

"Darius Edwards, and I was adopted from an orphanage."

I take a closer look at his face, and suddenly I get taken back to a memory of me, facing him down with rain pouring down on us, bleeding from the deep wounds he has caused me, while fighting the feeling from passing out, because of blood loss, but then he snaps me back from my little flashback.

"hello, Darius are you there?"

I think to myself, while genuinely smiling.

"this bastard pushed me to the brink of death, even when he forced me to use bloodlust."

the Demons infamously named him.

"The Demon Eater."

my adrenaline spikes with excitement, as I stare at one of the few humans I've ever faced that has pushed me to my limits, and the one if I didn't kill in battle would have reached a divine level, that a few special individuals have managed to reach in the history of our realm, I reply.

"I'm here, I just zoned out for a moment."

he chuckles.

"yeah, it happens to me sometimes."

he then asks.

"so do you have any plans to serve a family?"

I answer.

"no I haven't."

he then asks.

"why not join my family, and become a representative?"

I respond still holding my luggage.

"how about you let me find my dorm room, and then I'll give you your answer."

he replies.

"alright, I'll help you find your dorm room and give you brief summary of my family."

he points to right hallway of the cross intersection.

"that side is the boy's dormitory."

he signals me to follow him and I get a good look at his cape, and just notice an emblem of the now extinct Lion roaring, with a heart with wings as the background, I ask.

"is that your family crest?"

he nods while leading me.

"yeah, my father had made that design after finally raising our status from commoners to nobles."

he asks.

"which floor was it?"

I look at the key.

"third floor."

upon reaching the third flood he asks.

"room number?"

I answer.

"three hundred twenty three."

we find my room and notice that it is currently empty, but on both beds there are uniform sets nearly folded on top, I approach one of the beds and see a card placed right on top of the stack, and as I grab it Octavius said.

"pour your mana into it and your I.D should activate."

the card lights up, and suddenly my face appears in the top left corner and my name appears on the right of it, he then said after I grab my class schedule.

"alright, leave your luggage here and we'll discuss about you joining the Lionheart family."

I leave my luggage on the bed and leave with Octavius to the cafeteria.
