Chapter 21 - Chapter 21 -- Escaping; Voices inside.

Lewis stepped through the 'door' in the jail bars, and glanced down the corridor. It was as if he were in purgatory; both forwards and backward, were identical. As if the architect of this jail had designed half of it, then just cloned it and sowed them together.

He nodded to himself, now was the time to escape.

Aeryn said; a soft voice looming in the back of his mind.

The stone walls and floor echoed with the sounds of Lewis' footfalls as he sprinted down the direction Aeryn had told him. His heart pounding, adrenaline coursing through his veins, he was determined to escape this hellhole.

It was strange...

Lewis hadn't actually been the one within the jail, yet he felt.. almost an anger at it?

Those were unnecessary thoughts.

He rounded the corner, swiftly, slamming his elbow into the unprotected face of the guard.

The man went down like a plane without wings; his armor clattering to the ground with the musical passion of an ensemble.

"That's definitely been heard..." Lewis muttered to himself, his hand shooting out and grabbing the hilt of the fallen guard's sword. The metal felt heavy in his hand, but the weight was comforting. His training had taught him hand-to-weapon combat, but his body was weak, and he didn't like leaving things to chance.

Quite quickly, the sound of shouting and clanging metal filled the air, and Aeryn warned him about the horde of guards barreling towards him. He lifted the sword, ready to defend himself.

The first guard came at him with a spear, and Lewis sidestepped it easily, bringing the sword down in a quick arc and slicing through the man's neck.

Aeryn's voice in his head warned him just in time, and Lewis spun to face another guard, this one wielding a mace. He swung the sword with all the might his body would've allowed, and the metal clashed against metal with a loud ring. The guard was strong, much stronger than Lewis, but Lewis had training. He slipped the sword into a reverse grip and slammed through the slit of the armor where the chest plate met the placed skirt. He twisted the blade in a half circle and felt the flesh render.

He pulled the sword out before the guard could crumple around it, and took on an offensive stance.

He pushed forward, his sword arm moving in quick, precise strikes.

The guards swarmed him, their weapons flying in all directions, but Lewis was faster. Having a 'second brain' helped.

He ducked and dodged, his sword flashing through the air as he took down one guard after another. But for every guard he took down, two more took their place. He was outnumbered, and the fight was taking its toll on him. His breaths were coming in ragged gasps, and his arm was starting to feel like lead.

Lewis spun just in time to block a sword strike from behind. He stepped back, trying to regain his balance, but the guard pressed forward, his weapon raised high. Lewis pressed out a sudden burst of energy and dodged to the side, just in time to avoid a fatal blow. He spun and brought his sword around, slicing through the air and connecting with the side of the guard's helmet. The man staggered back, dazed, and Lewis took advantage of the momentary respite to catch his breath. He froze.

But he didn't have much time to recover, as more guards were already pouring into the corridor.

Aeryn said, panic rising steadily within her tone.

The guards drew closer; Lewis suspended in a trance.

"..Lukaaa, Lesuu, Sesuu. Taeuuaa-Taera, Taeuuaa-Aehari, Uuraesuu. Taeuuaa-Taera, Ori-Lesuulerae." He said; though the voice was female.

"Taeuuaaaa-Sesuu."

He breathed out, exhaling a thick white mist that began to grow and cover the area; obscuring the guard's view of him.

The mist hovered for a moment, then contracted rapidly, like being sucked through a vacuum.

Lewis gritted his teeth and stepped forward, his hair now an icy blue with crimson streaks, his sword now pure white and frozen.

The guards immediately resumed the assault like a well-oiled machine.

The fight was brutal and relentless, but Lewis seemed to have endless amounts of stamina. He fought with all his strength, his sword arm moving with the fluidity of water.

He blocked strikes and countered with quick, deadly jabs. He was relentless, a blur of movement, and the guards began to fall back before him.

Despite the odds, Lewis was holding his own, but Aeryn knew he couldn't keep this up forever. She desperately scanned the area, looking through Lewis' eyes for a way out.

Lewis didn't hesitate on wondering if she was talking about an enemy or a path. He could tell instinctively.

He spun on his heel and sprinted down the new corridor, his sword arm guarding him from any potential attackers. He burst through the door and into a small room, just in time to see a guard step out of the shadows.

The man reached for his sword, but Lewis was already moving. He lunged forward, driving his sword through the man's neck and leaving it there as the guard crumpled to the ground.

He crossed the room in a few quick strides and wrapped his blood and sweat covered hands across the bars.

"Risuu, Wauhari. Karae."

The bars crumbled into dust, and Lewis slumped backwards as the magic squeezed the sparks out of him.

He would rest later, for now, he was running.

He was free, but his heart was still pounding with the thrill of battle. He looked back over his shoulder, back towards the jail, and smiled. He had escaped, and he was still alive.
