"... Even if that's the case," Baston retorted, "your intel was inaccurate."
But Hathon shook his head. "Did I tell you that the lord was the captain? Or did I say that the interim lord was likely the best guess?"
Baston's sharp gaze tried to cut past Hathon's unconcerned look.
Hathon continued, "I told you the reserve captain could theoretically be anyone, and that the likely candidate was the interim lord. How else would they have someone strong yet completely loyal hidden away in the city?"
"Then what now? How should I trust you about the lord's identity now!" Baston argued.
