Golbert couldn't help but laugh at the disappointment in Bil's voice. However, he didn't bother questioning Bil or saying anything else to the man. Instead, Golbert's focus turned to Jash. With a sly half-smile, Golbert asked, "So, are you ready?"
"Huh?"
"I've been paid, so it's time we sparred," stated Golbert. "Come on. There's plenty of space outside and no crops to hurt. We can go crazy out there."
Jash nodded. There was hesitation in his steps but Jash felt a comforting shove from behind. "Bil…"
"Go for it. I doubt you'll win, but that's not the point," Bil clarified. "Just earn his acknowledgment. Do that and you'll enter the city guard with a proper recommendation. Otherwise, it'll take much longer to make a good impression.
"Or are you nervous to do it in an open field?"
"Huh… you could tell?" Jash chuckled lightly.
