Zac returned to the kitchen a few minutes later. Surprised, he noticed the tenderness still lingering on Nelphy's face and smile. "Umm… Did I miss something?"
"No, don't worry about it," commented Bil, already at work pulling the cake out of the oven.
Nelphy waved for Zac to stand next to her, giving them both a view of Bil's handiwork.
After Bil took out the cake, he removed it from the tin. Then, in a single motion, he sliced it into perfect halves. Bil spread his apple caramel sauce over one half before stacking the other layer on top. Next, Bil spread Nelphy's frosting around the entire cake, leaving dallops across the top. And to top it all off, Bil placed the hazelnut-caramel teardrops on the dallops of frosting, making sure each slice would have at least two of them.
"Alright. It's ready. Who wants the first slice–"
