Chapter 265 - *Ch 280: Security

Already, it was Monday, and I was sixteen weeks pregnant. Throughout the remainder of last week and the weekend, I haven't seen Kai since I fought with him last Tuesday. As you could imagine, I was quite upset with him for his disappearance. Although I shouldn't be mad because his friends weren't around either. Alice, Rose, and Mia didn't seem bothered by the fact that their mates have been unannounced for a week.

Regardless of that, I kept myself busy with my geology project. To move things along, Rebecca and I agreed we'd each take a poster and work on it independently because we could barely abide each other. Nonetheless, we still went to the library together on given school days.

Once I was wrapping up my journal on my laptop, Professor Mark and everyone else started filling the research center. I arrived earlier than expected, so I had enough time to type out my deep thoughts. After closing my diary file, I observed where Rebecca and I had left off with our project. Meanwhile, she came in with a shoe box that had jewelry boxes inside it.

"You can thank me for the grade with what I brought in for the project." Rebecca gloated like the stuck-up brat that she is. Then she pulled out the smaller boxes and started to open them. Each box had a gem or rock piece inside it.

"Are these real or fake?" I asked her once I started to help sort them on the map.

"The broken gemstone shards are disposable from them getting cut into their size and shape. My dad won't let me borrow anything valuable." Rebecca answered truthfully, and for once she didn't sound too brusque.

"This should help us," I comment, taping whatever was left of a zebra jasper gemstone on my poster.

"You think!" and there you have it, Rebecca's mouth didn't fail to spit her sarcasm.

To my luck, the hour seemed to fly by, and I was gladly out of there and away from her. I go to the cafe to meet up with a more amicable being, waiting for me.

"Looks like you could use this." Tyler smiled, giving me an iced coffee he bought me. Then he took a seat at the booth.

Over the week, Tyler and I have been talking at the cafe on campus. Things were casual talk or anything random that came to mind.

"You're a lifesaver!" I raved way too happy to get my coffee as I sat down across from him.

"Rebecca still being a pain?" he chuckled.

"You have no idea!" I ranted.

Since we've been talking, he's been like my therapist. I've been able to get all my frustrations out, even about my ex. Lately, Orlando's been acting strange because he seemed to shun me whenever I ran into him a few times on campus. It hurt, but it was best to cut ties with him, even though my heart felt differently. Tyler briefly knew I loved him. He at least understood how hard it's been on me to let Orlando go. Daily I tell myself I am making a selfless decision by letting the love of my life go because he will forever remain human.

"I can understand." Tyler chuckled again at my exhausted face.

"Anyways, how was your weekend?" I asked only to change the conversation. I'm sure he was bored with me talking about Rebecca. All I do is gripe about how she's such a pompous brat.

"Other than someone trying to break into my mansion, it was good," he replied so indifferently like it wasn't a big deal.

"Goodness, what happened?" I, on the other hand, took it more seriously. "Did anyone get hurt?"

Tyler chuckles like a dream. "No, I have good security with my best guardians."

"How did it happen?" my brow raised curiously to hear about it.

"It happened during that small window with a shift change between guardians," he explained. "The thief was after a priceless diamond necklace. Luckily they didn't get my family heirloom."

"I'm glad the thief was busted," I happily responded before sipping my coffee.

"I'm sure Mr. Collin and Kai have some tight security." He randomly mentioned it in his remark.

"Yes, they sure do," I smiled. "Kai is very protective of me."

"Though he seems to lack security around the campus," he chuckles, amused, it seemed.

"Not always. I think they spy on me unseen." I giggled, defending my husband since I knew his guardians were always around unnoticed.

"True, but hopefully, he does a better job at keeping you safe at his father's mansion," Tyler stated as if he had his doubts about that.

"He does," I defend. "Things are locked tight, but you know there are those changes in positions or something comes up where a guardian leaves their post."

"What, Mr. Collin leaves the front exposed?" Tyler questioned with a chuckle.

"No, not the front, but in the back. The guardians in the back check things out, and the front is on a closer watch," I explained.

"Well, you're frail. You should make sure Kai keeps security tight," he advised me. "Is there any area that is less protected?"

"Sometimes the back garden to the indoor pool," I mentioned, thinking about it. "But it's so blocked up with flower beds and huge bushes that it makes it hard for anyone to break in."

"That's good," Tyler responded, curving a strange smirk on his lips.

"Why do you ask?" I decided to question him.

"Just making sure you're safe," Tyler innocently smiles. "I'd hate to see anything happening to you."

"That's sweet of you," I giggled before sipping my coffee. "Mmm, this is really good."

Tyler only chuckled at my statement, while he watched me enjoy my refreshment. We talked a little longer before I had to head to my next class. Once college was done, I went home only to discover Kai and his friends still hadn't returned from wherever they might be.

After a bedtime snack, I retired to bed. Unfortunately, I couldn't sleep, so I turned on the small lamp from my nightstand and read another vampire book to refresh my mind about vampirism wisdom while Sapphire was sleeping at my hip. Hours blew past, and I still couldn't sleep. Then my ears catch the sound of the doorknob twisting.
