Chapter 182 - Ch 197: Limited Options

Kai's heart was cut deep when his mate rejected a small kiss from him. Unfortunately, all he could do was endure the pain and proceed forward from it. On the balcony outside his father's office, he regrounded his standpoint with others.

Mr. Collin and their advisors looked over at him and saw the misery in his eyes. Just so suddenly, he tucked it away and buried it somewhere beneath his heart.

"How is she feeling?" Mr. Collin asked lightly.

Kai replies, "she's going to bed."

"You made the right call by having Rome and I hang with her," Jack voiced within their group.

Unexpectedly, Kai's eyes blackened when he asked. "Who tried to kill her?"

"He was a chosen human," Rome sighed.

"He's dead!" Kai snarled vigorously. He was about to fly off.

Until Mr. Collin clutched his forearm and prevented him from doing so. "Think about this, Kai!" He vastly cautioned. "It's one thing when a member defies his Alpha and kills their granted human. But it's a far different story if another clan kills someone else's granted human. Whoever did this attack wanted to test you. The only way to test you is by having one of his granted humans do the job. If you kill that human then his Alpha has all rights to strike your clan. Too much is at stake for that to happen because you have too many clan members that are raising their mates from infants and much older. Glenn is your advisor, his mate Alice could die by their fangs. She would be the second target under Victoria. It's the ultimate sacrifice you have to make as an alpha."

Kai cooled off and understood personal affairs had to be put aside. It's what made any Alpha a great leader. Otherwise, nobody would follow a self-center and pompous alpha who abused his authority and dominant power.

Sure Kai was grumpy and moody but he was far from pompous and selfish. Other than his minions, his clan had free will, and his rules were set for safety reasons, not to control them. Therefore, he had to be sure their granted humans, the vampiresses, and their offspring remained safe at all times in his clan.

"You're right," Kai hardened his heart and asked for guidance from his wise father. "What should I do?"

"Keep their attack aimed at Victoria and not on your Clan or our Coven," his father wisely advised and Kai painfully understood him.

"Alright, I'll be sure not to make the wrong moves," Kai confirmed and Mr. Collin was gladdened to hear he was listening for once.

Ivan suggested, "if you like, I can have Mia watch over Victoria. This way if anything happens, she can send me a mental signal and alert me about any danger."

"I'll let you make that call, Ivan," Kai replied softly. "Either way, I need to find a haven to take Victoria and my clan."

Mr. Collin frowned, "Your mother will be heartbroken if you leave. You've only been reunited with the family and Coven."

"Same with my mom and Rose's mom," Ace sighed, sadly. "They won't watch my son grow up."

"It's only until the blue moon," Kai apprised. "It won't be forever."

He understood it was hard to leave the Coven and risky in most cases but Kai and his clan were far from weak. Even the vampiresses weren't powerless. In packs, he knew the vampiresses were stronger together but not singled out. Many times, he witnessed the vampiresses work together to take down another vampire because he tried to **** one of them or that vampire tried to harm one of their offspring.

"It hasn't been determined when the blue moon is coming." Jack stressed but exaggerated, "It could be another ten years for all we know. Taking Sharlene from her family and mine. They'll miss the stages to watch our offspring grow up."

Kai frowned with a sigh, "I know there will be a lot that everyone might miss out on."

Mr. Collin gently told Kai. "We understand you wanna keep Victoria safe but remember a clan is always stronger with their Coven."

"I know dad," Kai mumbled and knew no one wanted to leave, not even him. Then he looked at Jack oddly inhaling the air. "What is it?"

Jack passed Kai's shoulder and went to the stone guardrail, taking in this familiar scent. Until it vanished like it never existed.

"I smelled my son but he disappeared just as fast," Jack said, more alarmed and worried.

"Do you think something happened?" Glenn walked up to stand next to his left.

"I hope he wasn't detained by another vampire," Jack said, truly concerned so much that it weighed on his heart. He felt lost on what to do. He's been waiting for the young vampire to find him because offspring will always find their father when they're being human-raised.

"I don't believe that is what's going on," Kai smelled the air. Being Alpha he sensed something else going on.

"What do you mean?" Jack asked Kai next to his right.

Kai smirked knowingly, "I think your son has the gift to block out his scent."

Jack said proudly ecstatic, "Just like that vampiress in Rex's clan! That would explain why I've been having trouble detecting his whereabouts."

"This could be very well, why," said Kai.

"If that's the case then maybe we won't have to leave our Coven," Rome proposed behind them. "Maybe the young vampire can help hide Victoria's scent."

Kai, Glenn, and Jack faced around to see Rome, standing between Ace, Ivan, and everyone else.

"Maybe, but he's only a juvenile," Kai replied. "Jack still has to teach him how to hunt. Along with being in control of himself. The young vampire still has to learn how to be a vampire."

Ivan said next to Duncan. "Yes, but maybe he'll learn faster since Jack is an advisor. He'll be around his dad who is around us. Perhaps he'll benefit his skills faster from being around us and his Alpha."

"First, he has to find Jack or we need to locate him," Kai speculated. "For now we are sticking to the plan to leave earth."

He sighed lowly, hating the fact options were becoming limited. Yet his heart also realized, he didn't tell Victoria about this idea of his to leave with her through a gateway to another dimension. Ok, so maybe he still had a few more secrets he forgot to tell her. At some point, he'll explain and set things right in their relationship, he deemed.

"I'm going to look for my son," Jack told everyone.

"We'll help you," Kai insisted and then they took off to do that. Only Mr. Collin and his advisors stayed behind.
