Chereads / The Travails of a Teenager / Chapter 5 - Blind date 2

Chapter 5 - Blind date 2

the moment I lost sight of the Tricycle, I went inside the compound, knocked at my neighbors door to pick Ade up.

Good evening ma, I greeted her.

Shewa, you are back.. how was the study session?

it was fine ma

Ade, your sister is around to pick you, Aunty Rita called.

I took Ade home and dished out the food for us to it. Dinner was Semovita and egusi soup. I didn't really eat much because my stomach was already full.

few minutes after he finished eating, Ade fell asleep so I put him to bed, after changing him into his pyjamas.

I washed up the plates and took my bath, put on my night wear and lay on my bed. I checked my phone and saw 15 missed calls and 20 unread messages from Tumi, telling me to call her immediately.

I rolled my eyes, she likes gossip alot.

After saying my night prayers. I tried to sleep because I was very exhausted. besides Ade was already asleep and my aunt and uncle had a spare key to the house.

I eventually fell asleep and dreamt of David and I getting married and having 2 sets of twins. it was the best day ever.

I WOKE up the next morning feeling glee, I couldn't stop thinking. A bright smile was plastered permanently on my face as I moved around the house that my aunt and uncle were very suspicious and asked me questions repeatedly.

this one that you are just happy today, did you win a lottery or jackpot?

no Aunty Damilola... it's nothing.

it's the power of love, I thought in my mind.

Tumi called and I promised her that I would tell her everything at school on Monday.

on Monday morning as usual, I arrived at school early and for the first time ever, Tumi was in school before me, waiting impatiently.

we went outside to the school recreational center to talk since assembly hadn't commenced yet.

so tell me everything? Tumi asked curiously

well.... I started, we went on our date as planned by 3:00pm. we ate, drank, and then he accompanied me back home and asked me to be his girlfriend, I shrugged casually not wanting to get into the details.

oh my God.... Tumi squealed suddenly. I'm so happy for you. Did you guys kiss?

yes

I'm so happy for you, my baby girl is growing... Tumi cried as she hugged me tightly.

so what was your response to his request?

I haven't given one yet, I will have to give him one today.

what is your decision?

I don't know, I murmured.

what do you mean you don't know? David is a big fish, you cannot afford to loose that golden opportunity. I will advise you to agree to be his girlfriend so that you can finally change status, from a nobody to a somebody. besides he's very handsome and his parents are rich, for crying out loud what else do you want?

I have heard you, I will accept his proposal.

you better do, if not I'll accept it for myself since you don't like good things, she mocked.

Tumi leave me alone, I answered. I said I will accept.

Just then the bell rang for assembly and our little chit chat was over.

SCHOOL today was very hectic, we barely had anytime for ourselves because of the upcoming test week.

at the close of the day, I was coming back from the staff room where I have gone to submit some notes when I ran into David.

We barely had time to talk today so I guess he must have figured out that this was the best time.

Shewa can we talk? he asked.

sure, what's up?

we strolled quietly into an empty classroom and I sat on one of the desks, while he stood a few feet away from me.

How was your night? he asked obviously trying to palpate the tension in the air.

It was alright, I answered breathlessly. my heart was thumping hard.

hmmm... he nodded as he stepped closer and took my hands in his.

Have you thought about my request?

yes I have and my answer is yes.. I answered shyly.

He burst into smiles and planted a soft kiss on the back of my hand and another on my forehead.

I promise that you will never regret this decision.

I better not, I thought.

After the school bell rang to indicate the close of the day, David walked Tumi and I to the gate. he had a personal driver who takes him and brings him to and fro school.

I don't like the way that you girls walk to and fro from school everyday, I will stop a cab for you.

No thank you, I started to say but Tumi interrupted me.

Thank you so much David, we really appreciate, she smiled and then turned to give me a nasty glare when David wasn't looking.

Thank you so much, I forced a smile. we will love a ride.

Baby, don't feel awkward about receiving gifts and favours from me because this is just the beginning. I want to take care of you. I felt David wrap his hand around my waist and pulled me closer.

I have told you to be referring to me as Baby now. we are dating remember, and that's what boyfriend's and girlfriends do.

I nodded in response.

can we go now, if you love birds are done... Tumi interrupted.

I burst into laughter, if I didn't know better, I would say that she was jealous, but come on its Tumi we are talking about here. how could she be jealous of me?

few minutes later, a taxi came by and David stopped it and dialogued with the driver, he then made payment and signaled for us to get in.

I waved good bye to him as the taxi started to move.

can you see all the luxuries, we would have been missing if you would have said no to that guy, Tumi started. how I wish I had seen him first.

I burst into laughter. Tumi, you like free things too much.

who doesn't, in this country Nigeria, she countered.

we went on and on in our banter before the driver got to my designation and I alighted and driver went on to drop Tumi at hers. Good bye, I waved at her and she waved back.

Dating David was very interesting, he showered me with lots of gifts. infact on my birthday, he took me on an exclusive dinner in a fancy hotel where he tried to make love to me but I refused because I wasn't ready and he conceded.

I told him that I would when the time was right. although our affair was a secret from my aunt and uncle and I had to tell a lot of lies, I was still so happy and let thoughts of him cloud my mind that I couldn't see and think of anything else.
