Thump! Thump! Thump!
'Damn it, I hope I am not too late.'
In the city of New York, a black haired boy with blue colored eyes could be seen running through the streets and then into a seven storey building. The intensity in which he ran caused several people to turn their heads as he passed by. The look on his face was like that of someone that was running away from a ghost. These people turned their heads to it's original position going their way as they believed they had better things to do than to chase after a boy who was most likely trying to prank them. That however was the opposite of what he wanted to accomplish.
Going towards the elevator he clicked the button beside him in a vigorous manner. Within a few seconds he realized that it was occupied.
"Darn it!", He said loudly not minding if anyone heard him.
His eyes hopped to the staircase before rushing off in it's direction. Running up the flight of stairs, it didn't take to long before he was on the building's roof top.
"Callum stop!", He shouted gasping for air as he absorbed the sight in front of him.
It was night time at the moment and the buildings around gave out lights that made the view one to behold. The full moon along with the cool breeze blowing along made it all the more appealing. However this would go unnoticed as his attention was pasted right in front of him. A pale coloured brown skin boy stood at the edge of the building. His body was thinner than normal, giving him a look that made it seem like he was malnourished. Callum turned to look at him with an indifferent expression till his eyes were eventually covered by his brown unkept hair.
"Cree, what are you doing here?", Callum asked as he turned his attention to the buildings edge once again.
"What the hell is that suppose to mean!? Why wouldn't I be here to stop my friend..my brother from committing suicide!?"
Callum chuckled upon hearing this causing Cree to get even more upset.
"You think suicide is the best option? Do you even realize that if you do this it is all over for you? You will be...", Cree came to a stop as he bit his lower lip.
"Cree, I know what I am doing", Callum spoke with a satisfied expression.
At this point, Cree wasn't sure if he could stop him for committing suicide. Besides his reason for trying to do so was somewhat understandable.
When he was younger, Cree was an orphan that was barely able to keep himself alive. He hated the idea of staying in an orphanage so he always avoided anything that would get him into one. He had met Callum a particular sunny day when he was going through a garbage can looking for food.
For some reason, Callum had treated him as a close friend not a dirty homeless person who was on the street. He would come with food each day giving it to him so that he wouldn't starve.
This went on for several weeks until one day out of the blue he had come over with an elderly man and woman. He soon discovered that these were Callum's parents and they had an interest in adopting him. Their reason being that they had never seen their son so happy around someone before. Seeing the type of person Callum was he believed he would be treated well.
After he was adopted he would meet Callum's two sisters as well and live the best days of his life. During this period of time, he would not just see them as a family that adopted him but as a family of his own. Reaching the age of eighteen, Cree left their home once again in an attempt to face the world head on to which he was successful this time. Sure he wasn't the richest man in the world, but at least this time he was able to make ends meet.
Though to his dismay, two years later he would hear the worst news ever. Apparently, Callum and his family were on their way back from a vacation when they had an accident. A drunk truck driver had ran into their car after a turn gone wrong. The result of this was a terrible accident in which Callum had barely survived. Sadly the same could not be said for his parents and siblings.
Cree had come to find Callum, his brother barely clinging on to life in the hospital. Here he would watch and take care of his brother for about six months.
Today he just happened to be coming over when he heard from a nurse that his brother had left the hospital unannounced. Knowing him too well he came to the conclusion that he wanted to take his life. Now the question that came to his mind was where he would do such a thing. He soon realized that the answer was the building area where him and Callum had met. This was not a surprise to him as he believed that Callum considered this to be the place he had most of his best life experiences.
Besides Callum had told him more than once that running into him was the best thing that had ever happened to him.
Gripping his fists tightly, Cree racked his brain as he tried to figure out a way to convince his friend not to go ahead with what he had in mind. The pressure on him did not let up as he knew that if he failed his friend would vanish from the face of the Earth.
"You don't have to do this Callum, you can still live a life, okay? Look at me, I was an orphan but I never tried to take my life. Look at me now.."
"I am not you, Cree! You were always better than me and we know it. You were stronger, smarter and even had a stronger will. Unlike you, there is no way I can live like this.."
Walking further to the edge, Callum prepared himself to jump only for him to be interrupted by his brother's next words.
"I know you have lost everyone close to you but you still have me! I know you want to escape this hell but at least try your best to live for me! Remember that you still have me Callum, Your brother!", Cree explained with his breath building momentum.
A glint of hope shone in Cree's eyes the moment he stopped moving. Tears escaped Callum's eyes as he took a step backwards from the edge. Cree knew that even though his brother was about to commit suicide he didn't feel happy about doing so.
"You still got me....", Cree said in a low tone as he walked over to Callum with slow controlled steps. "Wait over there I am coming for..."
Suddenly a bright burst of light erupted from a distance before multiple waves of color soared the sky along with a powerful tremor that hurled Cree straight to the floor face first. This resulted in him getting knocked out.
