~In the Evening~
~At the Smith's Mansion~
The whole of the Smith household is busy preparing for the arrival of a special guest. The maids were moving back and forth, making sure everything was done perfectly to the satisfaction of Mrs. Smith. Sounds of people chopping vegetables and frying meat with another delicious aroma were flying out of the kitchen and Mrs. Smith inspected every little detail of the things being done.
"Evelyn, there is no need for all this, the workers can handle it," Henry said to his wife, looking worried.
"Oh, honey. If I leave it to them alone, they will mess it all up. Do you know who we are expecting today? My son-in-law. So, everything has to be perfect." She said to Henry as she planted a small kiss on his lips.
"You seem to have forgotten what happened yesterday and the advice of the doctor." A short sigh of 'I give up' escaped Henry's before speaking again.
"I haven't forgotten and I promised to rest when everything is over . . . Okay." She promised him.
"Eva, where is the wine?" She said a little louder as she walked past Henry, referring to a worker.
Olivia is busy on her phone, having a conversation with someone familiar, Chloe. She is lying flat on her bed, obviously not prepared for dinner yet.
"I just hope nothing goes wrong this time around," Olivia said over the phone while playing with her nails.
"You know, there is still time to stop all of this," Chloe suggested.
"Hell No, how am I going to do that? Do you expect me to tell my parents that the whole thing is just fake and there is no boyfriend/ husband and that I planned all of this?" Olivia asked, not expecting an answer from Chloe.
"Eventually, they will find out what's going to happen. Do you think they will be able to handle the fact that their own daughter deceived them?" Chloe asked, hoping that she could still change Olivia's mind.
"Don't worry, they will never find out about it because I have everything planned out carefully," Olivia assured her.
"If anything goes wrong, don't say I didn't warn you, Vee," Chloe said as she had already given up on the chances of making Olivia have a change of mind.
"Nothing will go wrong; all you have to do now is to wish me good luck and pray everything goes well," Olivia said as she stood from her bed and went to the dressing table.
"Okay, bye. I have to get ready now, I love you." She said, taking off the brioche on her hair.
"Bye, love you too," Chloe said her goodbyes then she ended the call.
"Okay, Olivia. Let's get pretty from tonight." She said to herself as she took out her make-up set.
. . . .
~Presently, at Ryan's apartment~
Jason is also preparing for tonight's dinner; he is wearing a white shirt with a pair of navy-blue trousers and black shoes accompanied by a silver watch. He decided to take Ryan's advice on wearing something better, but he had no plans on wearing a tie. Ha-ha…. He seems to have a problem with ties.
His dark- gray eyes compliment his dark hair color and his slim lips which made him a lot handsome. He came out of his room, all dressed and ready to go.
"Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Who knows, maybe if you had just taken my little advice and wore a tie yesterday, things wouldn't have ended up that way." Ryan said as he held two ties in the air in each hand.
"So, choose one." He added as he stretched the ties towards him.
"Why would I want to look like a clown for dinner," Jason said in a flat tone as he walked past Ryan.
"Are you saying I always look like a clown when wearing a tie?" Ryan asked as he turned to look at Jason, looking irritated and frustrated at the same time.
"What do you think?" Jason arched a brow at him.
"Jason Ethan Turner, how dare you insult me?" Ryan used Jason's full name to address him this time.
"Ha ha ha ha….. I can't believe you used my full name on me, where did you get that from?" Jason just had to laugh, seeing Ryan angry is one of the few things that always force laughter out of Jason's mouth.
"It's not funny, Jason. Apologize now or I won't drop you off at Olivia's house." Ryan threatened.
"Okay, thanks for the keys anyway," Jason said as he swiftly grabbed the keys from the table and walked out immediately.
"You fucking asshole." Ryan blurted out as he clenched his fists hard and dashed out of the apartment.
Ryan immediately snatched the keys from Jason's hand as he gave him the stink eye.
"I thought you just said you won't drop me off?" Jason asked, with a 'I knew you would come after me' look on his face.
"Get in the car before I change my mind," Ryan said as he moved towards the car and stepped into it.
"With pleasure." He said as he got into the car, with a playful smirk on his face.
Inside the car, Jason was wondering how Ryan got to know about his middle name, he didn't remember telling him. Even though they have been friends for a long time, he was sure he had never mentioned it. There was only one explanation Jason could think of, Aunt Sophia must have told him.
Sophia, Jason's aunt, had raised him and taken care of him ever since he was born. Her sister, Helena died when giving birth to him, and ever since that tragic incident, Sophia became like a mother to him and took care of him like her other two children. She never for once blamed Jason for what happened to her sister because she knew it was never his fault but that of his despicable father who left without coming back.
While Jason was growing up, Sophia took it upon herself to explain what happened to his mother because she felt it was the best thing to do. Every time Jason asked about his father, his aunt always avoided the topic and explained to him that it was not important to know about his father.
Eventually, he found out that his father abandoned him and his mother and he grew up developing a strong feeling of hatred towards him.
Do you believe that those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it?
