In the East Wing of the same hospital, three men stood outside a certain room on the third floor.
Since it was way past midnight now, there was no one except these three who could be found in that otherwise vacant corridor.
"You cannot smoke here!" A hurried whisper echoed in the silent surroundings but it did not seem to disturb the peace around them.
The man, who had just reprimanded his friend for lighting a cigarette in this place which most certainly was a no-smoking zone, glanced around in a panic to see if someone had noticed this act which disregarded the hospital rules.
A sigh of relief slipped past his lips when he realized that there was no one around.
It was just them, three men who had been waiting in this corridor for the past half hour or so.
Glad that they had not attracted the attention of anyone who might be in their vicinity, he patted his chest before directing a pleading glance towards the man who still had a lit cigarette in his hand.
A moment ago, he almost had a heart attack when his friend had lit a cigarette out of nowhere but looking at the other person's languid expressions as though none of this concerned him, he felt his lips twitch in frustration.
The tall man leaning against the floor-to-ceiling glass window of the corridor they had been waiting in, alternated his deep blue eyes between the object held between his fingers and his friend whose facial expressions did not seem too good at this very moment.
He twirled the long, sleek object around but never brought it closer to his lips.
Earlier, he had subconsciously pulled out a cigarette and lit it as this was his instinctual response whenever he was lost in thought.
He was just about to smoke when his friend had called out to him which reminded him of where he stood right now.
Though his languid attitude and the devil-may-care aura he was emitting right now revealed that he wasn't too concerned about the aftermath of his actions that could be considered rebellious, he still chose to be accommodating when he noticed the terrified look on his friend's face.
However, he did not forget to scoff at the other person's cowardly nature as he tossed the cigarette to the floor before stepping on it.
Not minding the mocking expression he just received, the one who had broken the silence earlier sighed in relief when he saw the cigarette being snubbed out.
He even went as far as to bow his head to display his appreciation and gratitude toward his friend who had heard his pleas and put the cigarette out.
Watching this unsightly scene from a short distance away, the third friend, who had been waiting along with them in this corridor, rolled his eyes.
"Aren't you a little too scared of your brother, Lance?" This silent spectator questioned with a clear look of disgust which he aimed at the man who was bowing towards their other friend.
Lance, the first friend who had pleaded for the cigarette to be put out, did not care about the second pair of eyes gazing at him with disdain evident in them.
In fact, he wasn't demoralized or affected by their harsh gazes or mean words.
Instead, he nodded his head without hesitation as though he was proud to admit that he was terrified of his elder brother who was not to be underestimated.
"Try living with that demon for a day and I will admit that you are the boss!" He even scowled while challenging his friend who was mocking him without knowing what he had experienced until now thanks to his elder brother.
His challenge was instantly declined as the other person raised his hands in defeat which made Lance smirk before scoffing back with equal disdain that had been aimed at him earlier.
Ignoring the two men who were squabbling like toddlers, the man who had initiated this entire mess was now busy looking out of the window he stood next to.
When the two men had turned in his direction in need of help to settle their petty debate, they found him staring down from the third floor in complete silence.
The look of utter concentration apparent on his face as he leered in a certain direction attracted their attention in no time.
Hence they too moved towards the window to peek at what could have caught his eye.
With raised brows, they were trying to locate what could be more entertaining to their friend than the challenge they had been discussing earlier.
Thanks to their nosy actions and sharp eyes, they soon caught an interesting sight which also explained what had attracted the interest of their usually lazy and indifferent friend.
"Isn't that President Lin?" Lance muttered in a surprised tone and narrowed his eyes to gain a better view of the figure he had just seen.
Standing next to him was Boston, the other party involved in their earlier challenge, who nodded his head in reply.
"But who is that woman next to him?" He added to the earlier question as the presence of the woman was far more surprising to them than the appearance of that man at this hospital.
After all, who did not know that President Christopher Lin, the head of Lin Industries was an eternal bachelor?
Even at the age of thirty, he was one of the few businessmen in their city who had not been tied down by marriage but at the same time, he wasn't involved in any of the scandals that were quite popular among men in places of power.
President Lin's reputation had no stains as he had never gotten involved with anything that could be used against him.
This made him a worthy role model for anyone who wanted to possess a clean reputation in their society.
Though Lance and Boston were in no way included in that list, they surely had a good impression about this man who was older than them by just a few years.
However, today they had seen a new side of him which had caused their jaws to almost drop to the floor.
President Lin appearing at a hospital would not have attracted their attention for longer than a few seconds, however, to see him walking next to a woman was most certainly not what they had expected to witness.
Not to mention that he had his arm around the petite woman's shoulder as he guarded her along the way and was excessively cautious when he helped her into the car.
Only after making sure that she was seated did he turn around and make his way to the other side of the car before he too got in.
The three friends standing at the window of the third floor had then watched as the car sped away from the hospital premises.
Until the car was no longer visible on the long road that led away from the hospital, they stood in the same position, staring in its direction.
Only when there was nothing left for them to see did they look away from the window and glance at each other.
Boston had a thoughtful look on his face while Lance now sported a mischievous grin which revealed that he had discovered something his friends had not.
"Did you notice the file in the assistant's hands?" He inquired, his grin widening further as he wiggled his brows and alternated his gaze between his two friends.
