Chereads / The Hound of Abaron / Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

"As much as I don't mind taking a stroll with you I don't think we should be down here. That doesn't sound like a simple beast." Apollo kept his voice low as he spoke to Gunner from behind.

They could hear the rumbling sounds of the sleeping beast. The sounds were loud and certainly stronger then that of a hell hound. From the way that Apollo was acting Gunner could tell the man was getting shaken from the force behind the noise. As a demon his instincts when dealing with other creatures were sensitive and his instincts were screaming at him to not step any further. Whatever was up ahead and resting under the city of Abaron was not something that he could easily go against if they enraged the beast.

"We're only going to find out what is under the city. If it gets risky we will just leave." Gunner said as he was determined to find out what they were dealing with. If Prince Clyde had to go into battle against what was hiding under the city he wanted t o know what it was before that day came. There wasn't any chance he would not take interest in knowing what the prince was doing. He could not tell if what laid under the city up ahead was friend or foe but he was not going to let it rest until he found out for certain.

"Your clear understanding of the word risk makes me worry." A faint smile was on Apollo's face as he wondered why he found Gunner's strength of will so alluring to himself. Waving his tail slightly to the side as his ears twitched he glanced at the man from behind.

Spreading out his arms wide Apollo wrapped Gunner into a firm hug from behind. His arms tightly holding Gunner from behind as he placed his chin down on the man's shoulder. There was a faint desperate look in Apollo's eyes as he gazed into Gunner's eyes from the side. Gunner was simply staring at him from the corner of his eye without turning his head.

"What are you doing?" Gunner asked with frustration over Apollo making a joke of the situation they were in. It was not often that Gunner took things seriously like he was and yet the man was trying to pull him away from what he was doing.

"My sweet hound, we should seriously consider heading back for now." Apollo smiled brightly as his pink hair fell down Gunner's chest while he clung to the man from behind. He had a lot of pride but he still knew when things looked dangerous for himself.

"I'm not stopping til I know what's down here." Gunner stated bluntly. Reaching his hand around Gunner grabbed hold of Apollo's shoulder and pushed him off. Looking at the expression on Apollo's face it was obvious that he was feeling dejected at the fact that he had been shaken off so bluntly from Gunner. If things were a bit calmer he might have played around with Apollo and teased him for his actions but there was simply too much going on around them to hold his attention to such a situation as Apollo's cute reaction to being rejected.

"Human, who dare disturb my slumber?" A voice echoed throughout the underground making it impossible to know where it came from. The voice seemed to be close but they could not see where it was coming from. Enough force was behind the tone of who spoke that both of them could not stop themselves from shivering slightly where they stood as they tried to figure out who was talking to them.

"Who's there?" Gunner called out to the one who spoke. He could see Apollo quietly at his side staring puzzled at a massive wall that blocked them from in front. They had walked straight to a dead end and yet there was someone they could not see speaking to them.

"It- It's a-" Apollo shook as he could not finish his final words before the wall began to move. They had only assumed they had walked up to a dead end but everything was not as it seemed.

What stood before them was not a wall but a massive white wyvern. It's white body was hued in a faint gold that coated in between some of it's scales. Staring down at them with it's baby blue eyes as it turned his head the beast exhaled a hot breath that almost made Gunner feel like he would suffocate if the beast kept breathing so heavily. There were only two large back legs to the wyvern so it used it's own wings like feet in front of it to move it's body around. With every movement made by the beast the ground shook beneath them all.

"Silence!" It roared only using a part of it's strength behind it's tone in order to halt all words from both of them. There was no hint of interest to hear what they had to say to each other because it had been roused from it's deep slumber.

"Sorry.. to disturb you." Gunner forced out the words as he did not expect to walk up on a sleeping dragon. He could feel an enormous pressure coming from the aura of the beast that made his knees want to give out under him. Using everything he had to remain standing he stared back into the eyes of the beast.

"What was that saying again? Let sleeping dragons lie?" Apollo gave a weak laugh as he worried he might get eaten for simply following Gunner down a manhole under Abaron city. He was not sure if he felt regret for coming out of the safety zone after Gunner or if he felt worried that something might happen to the man. Every fiber of his emotions felt conflicted between escaping alone and protecting Gunner if anything did happen.

Instinctively Apollo slowly stepped behind Gunner to make himself look as small as possible. His tail wrapping tightly around the man's body as he debated on grabbing Gunner and running at the slightest chance they got. Unsure of how the dragon would react to them running he could only consider the faint chances of survival if they did nothing and continued to stand around. If they enraged a wyvern he knew they both would be done for.
