Duan Cai stared blankly at the piece of paper in front of him that was laid out on his desk. Mortals really were a puzzling thing to him. It was the middle of class and he had been handed a test to take. Everyone else in the classroom had already started answering their own tests and for the past five minutes he had been stuck staring at his without a clue as to what he was suppose to answer. Things like this really did seem scary in it's own sense it seemed. He had spent over ten thousand years ruling as a god in another world and yet when it came to a simple thing like this it felt like he was utterly clueless as to what this was.
"Shit." He muttered under his breath as he glared at the piece of paper like a mighty challenge had been bestowed upon him.
"Are you okay, man?" a young boy sitting next to him whispered after seeing how flustered he thought Duan Cai was over the test.
"I got this." Duan Cai grit his teeth and picked up his pencil to begin answering everything as best as he could.
He ended up being the last person to turn in his paper to the teacher, but he felt proud of himself for turning it in regardless. There was nothing he would let stand in his way even if it was a simple piece of paper during his down time in the school while he pretended to be a kid among the mortals around him. It felt ridiculous for someone like him to worry about something he could not see any significance in doing in the first place, but if he gave up and did not turn it in than he felt it would only bring more trouble in the end by allowing himself to be looked down upon. If he had ignored it it could lead to his mortal body's parents being called and in the end he did not want to imagine the headache it would give him. He had too much to worry about with his Dragon Syndicate Sect that he needed to take care of so wasting time with the mortal family of his would only waste his time. His soul was not from this world, therefore he felt nothing when it came to a reason to associate with them unless something required him to.
As he sat there in his seat he slowly slouched himself down and lowered his bowler hat to cover the top of his face. A nap was something that sounded like it would please him highly at the moment. The other kids were all in their seats listening to the teacher speaking at the front of the class about things that only went in one ear and out his other. He could not remember if he had even taken classes when he was a child himself because it had been so long. If he had taken such a thing in his past world than he truly could understand why he did not bother to remember such a thing. Taking classes like this was surely something he had tuned out or slept the whole time away and retained nothing from it.
"Duan Cai!"
A shout from the front of the classroom shook him back to his senses. He tilted his hat back up and coughed silently to himself to act like he was listening. Thinking for a moment he almost responded back when he realized it was the classroom teacher, but he changed his mind and kept quiet. If he responded to the teacher he was not sure what to say. Duan Cai's memories of the teacher from the mortal body he was in clearly was indifferent about the guy. There was kids all around the classroom trying to hold back their laughter, but some of them couldn't help but snicker at him being yelled at for trying to sleep in class.
"Mortals.." He muttered under his breath as he glanced around the classroom with a sigh.
"Is my class boring you?" Teacher, Oliver Iker, was someone who was extremely beautiful for a man. He wore an average suit and tie with a white undershirt. His hair looked naturally smooth and was in waves that went down just past his shoulders. His hair was a shade of black that could almost hypnotize a person while his eyes were so light in blue that they were like his soul was gazing right into your own. Women naturally fawned over him all the time when he went out, but he never gave in that easily; though that did not mean he never enjoyed the fact that they did.
"Yes." Duan Cai accidentally responded honestly.
The teacher, Oliver Iker, reflexively chucked a piece of chalk across the room that bounced right off Duan Cai's forehead. Everyone in the classroom started snickering louder as he rubbed his forehead and glared at the teacher. Oliver was a beautiful person for sure, but his temper was short when someone refused to listen to him. It was the fact that his temper was short that his body's last owner was so indifferent towards Oliver Iker. The man was smart and a great teacher, but if a student refused to pay attention to his words he was not afraid to throw the book at them.
"Don't let me catch you nodding off again!" Oliver declared firmly as he did not bother to walk over and pick up the chalk he threw at Duan Cai. He just turned to his desk and took out a new piece before beginning his lecture again.
"Yes, sir.." Duan Cai grit his teeth as he endured the fact that he had just had a mortal throw chalk at him. The fact that he knew a bit about the teacher from his memories he received of him made Duan Cai feel a bit of respect for how vast the mortal's knowledge was so he tried to push his excuse for letting the man live for what he did as that he might be useful to him in the future. Though it partially was just that he felt too tired to bother with the man right now.
Forget it. Duan Cai thought to himself as he watched the man teach the mortal children around him. He had lived for so long he was sure he could tolerate it for a bit longer until class was over.
