Chapter 4 - Chapter 3

"WOOF" "WOOF" "WOOF"

The sounds of barking was filling the air from outside the car door. His golden eyes slowly fluttered open as he felt the car stop. It was a familiar sound that he had grown use to hearing whenever he arrived at Inferno Nexus Mansion. It was the sound of his own German shepherd off in the yard somewhere barking at either a stranger or a local animal. He felt the urge to catch the local cat that would sometimes sneak into his yard and dispose of it in one way or another at times; silence was valued highly by him and the local cat loved to destroy that for him.

"Welcome home, boss." Leon said as he opened the door for Duan Cai to climb out.

As he tilted his bowler hat back up he gazed around the place. In The front of Nexus the mansion could almost be mistaken for a palace. It was covered in plants from flowers to a few heavily bushed trees and in the center of the stone pathway to the mansion doors was a large fountain that sprayed water upwards into the air only to fall back down like a silent and beautiful rain. Nexus was a place that felt like home the moment you step foot onto it's grounds. The very air itself is clear and fresh to the point it makes your body feel like its being medically cured from any and all illness just by breathing in the air around the mansion.

"Thank you, Leon." Duan Cai turned and started to walk towards his fountain before stopping in front of it to silently gaze at the falling water drops. His golden eyes giving off a faint golden light as he watched it. "What time will Lester be here?"

"Sir? Oh, he should be arriving any moment. Whatever he wanted with you it sounded urgent, but considering how that man has taken interest in your abilities there is no telling what his motive really is. I do not understand why you even bother with him." Leon grit his teeth as he felt disgust towards Lester's obsession with Duan Cai. He knew that Lester was saved by Duan Cai, but at times the man seemed a bit too obsessed with him to the point it made Leon feel uncomfortable around Lester.

"Are you jealous?" Duan Cai smirked as he tilted his head down causing a shadow to cover his eyes from his bowler hat.

"That's not funny." Leon grit his teeth in disgust.

"That man can be interesting in his own ways at times to me, but other than him.. The fact that he brings us a connection to being friendly with the Yang Sect comes in use to us. The Dragon Syndicate Sect is still new and we can not afford to have the larger sects all after our sect."

Leon thought over Duan Cai's words for a moment as they stood there staring at the fountain. He could not imagine anyone successfully doing anything again his boss, but he knew that every mortal still had their limitation and that if he was pushed too far even Duan Cai could be killed. It would not be an easy thing to accomplish at the end of the day, however it could still be done. There was already a number of enemies out there that were displeased with Duan Cai and he knew that very well. He was one of the very first people recruited under Duan Cai three months ago and he had seen his vast rise in power from a poor student with nothing to someone feared by many who rules over his own sect. There was not many from the underground society that would not shake in fear at the mention of his name if they thought Duan Cai would come after them.

"Boss, I also forgot to mention it to you because I know you aren't that fond of.. her.. but she mentioned she will be coming back soon from the mission you sent her on last month apparently she has word on the person you wanted her to locate." Leon quickly brought up a topic he had been suppressing in the back of his mind.

"Her?!" Duan Cai grit his teeth and lowered his face to stare at the ground. It almost looked like he was shaking from nerves at the mention of the woman. She was the last person he wanted to see any time soon.

"Yes, but you did want her to find that person right?" Leon felt amused to see his boss looking flustered at the mention of the woman. It was not something that was easy to see, but there was one woman who was like a taboo topic around Duan Cai unless it was necessary to bring her up because if she was around it always frustrated him highly.

A month ago he had sent the woman on a mission to locate someone Duan Cai wanted to find. She did not have to be the one to go on the mission because it was not something too dangerous that her talent was needed for it, but he had convinced her with much difficulty to be the one to do it. He had worked her up making it sound important for her to do it for him. The reality of her leaving was much different and simply in his mind he just wanted to get rid of her for as long as possible so that he could breath without her around him.

"Adele will be back when?" Duan Cai almost growled out the question.

"Maybe about a week or so if nothing happens to her between now and than. It seems that her task as gone over smoothly." Leon nodded as he thought it over to make sure he was recalling correctly.

"Should I take a vacation?" Duan Cai thought out loud as he glanced up towards the sky and contemplated the idea.

"Boss, come back to reality!" Leon snapped slightly and had to refrain from smacking his boss on the back of his head.

"Alright, Sparky, down boy!" Duan Cai taunted slightly with a smile as he pointed his finger down as though he was telling a dog to sit.

Leon could not find the words to respond. He grit his teeth tightly shut and turned to storm off. If he stayed any longer he feared he might actually punch his own boss out of rage. Duan Cai was the only one left standing near the fountain in silence as he watched his man's back disappearing into the mansion doors.
