Chapter 49 - The betrayal unveiled

Corey and Lennox traveled on foot, jumping from asteroid to asteroid whenever they had to. "How far away are the others?" Lennox asked.

"I don't know," Corey replied. He closed his eyes and looked through the eyes of his friends. Three of them were blacked out.

One looked as if it were in a holding cell. Four were just wandering around. One was being led somewhere by someone.

Corey opened his eyes. "I can't see Velena's, Evan's, or Isaiah's locations," he said, frustrated. "I think we could get to Miles," Corey said.

"I can see that he's in a holding cell somewhere." Lennox paused. "How would you know where he is?" he asked.

"Miles could be anywhere in the universe right now." Corey stopped in his tracks. "That's the neat part, I don't," Corey replied.

Lennox shook his head. He knew Corey was trying to compensate for their lack of communication, but he was doing a very poor job at it.

"I think we should just keep moving around," Lennox said, "Kitsune can pick up on our scents and find us."

Corey nodded his head in agreement. As the two continued to walk, Corey heard a voice. "Corey," it said.

Corey almost immediately recognized the voice as he had been thinking about the person it belonged to.

"Miles?!?" Corey yelled out in reply. Lennox immediately stopped and turned to Corey. "What happened?" Lennox asked him.

Corey held up a finger and listened. "Corey, I managed to find a mirror for you to teleport to," Miles said frantically.

Corey closed his eyes. He saw Miles standing in front of a mirror. Miles's hair was dirty and unkempt. He had numerous bruises on his face, and there was dried blood under his nose. "Don't worry, Miles, I'm gonna get you," Corey said, reassuringly.

Corey opened his eyes. He opened a portal in front of him and yelled through it at Miles. "Jump through," he said. On the other side of the portal, Miles was checking his surroundings.

After confirming that the coast was clear, he immediately jumped through the portal. Miles didn't jump high enough and caught his knee on the sink.

Miles slipped back through the portal, appearing to Corey and Lennox as though he was falling. Lennox rushed forward and grabbed him, pulling him through the portal.

Miles and Lennox collapsed to the ground as the portal closed behind them. "Miles!" Corey shouted. Corey immediately helped Miles to his feet and dusted him off.

"Are you okay?" Lennox asked. "Still living," Miles said, shaking his head. "There's another one," Miles said, grabbing Corey's shoulders.

"Another one of what?" Corey asked, grabbing Miles's arms. Miles stopped shaking Corey. "There's another bad guy, and he has my powers."

Benjamin was in a sitting position. Velena lay on his lap, unconscious. Benjamin had been forced to knock him out after he tried to fight the man, Cyrus.

Cyrus had been unusually calm about the whole situation. "Good choice," he'd said after Benjamin knocked Velena out.

Cyrus had taken them back to Beelzebub's ship and deposited them in one of the holding cells. Benjamin stroked Velena's head.

His blow hadn't been that strong, yet he had knocked Velena out cold. Benjamin looked at the energy barrier, closing off the cell entrance. A shadow soldier guarded the entrance.

It periodically looked left to right, scanning the hallway for intruders. Benjamin turned back to Velena. He was breathing slowly, almost as if asleep.

Benjamin didn't know how much longer they would have to wait in the cell.

He had immediately noticed the mirror upon entering the cell. Benjamin slowly got up. The shadow soldier didn't turn around.

He walked across the cell towards the mirror. "Corey," he said. Benjamin quickly glanced back at the soldier. Still no movement.

Benjamin turned back to the mirror and whispered Corey's name a little louder. Once again, Benjamin glanced at the shadow soldier. It still had its back to the cell.

"Benjamin?!?" Corey asked from behind Benjamin.

Benjamin whipped around to see Corey's face in the mirror. Benjamin tapped a finger to his lips. Corey immediately covered his mouth with his hand in apology.

Benjamin waved this off and said, "We need you to get us out of here." Corey nodded and disappeared.

The mirror lost its reflective surface and turned into a portal. Benjamin crept over to Velena. He lifted her and carried her to the portal, where Corey's arms waited to take him away.

Benjamin placed Velena into Corey's arms. Corey carried Velena through the portal, leaving just Benjamin in the cell.

He turned around one last time to look at the soldier. Eerily, the soldier had turned to face him. It stared at him for a few seconds before vanishing.

Benjamin shivered. Somehow, this had seemed planned. He stowed his doubts and stepped through the portal.

On the other side, Corey, Lennox, and Miles stood waiting. Corey grabbed Benjamin and inspected him. "Are you okay?" he asked.

"What was the point of looking me over if you were gonna ask that?" Benjamin replied, "Aside from the fact that I'm running low on chi, I'm fine." Corey gestured at Velena.

"I had to knock her out to stop a fight," Benjamin explained. "When will she wake up?" Corey asked. "I don't know," Benjamin replied, shrugging.

Corey looked at Velena anxiously before turning back to Benjamin. "Miles says there's another bad guy," Corey revealed heavily.

Benjamin raised an eyebrow before asking, "What can he do?" "He has the same powers as Miles," Corey replied. "I've got even worse news," Benjamin said, "Charles betrayed us."

Corey, Lennox, and Miles all stared at Benjamin in shock. "Impossible," Lennox said.

"Yeah, he's the one who saved us after you got captured," Miles said. "If it weren't for him, you wouldn't be out of your cell," Corey finished.

Benjamin nodded in agreement. "That may be so, but he tried to kill Velena and me when he tried to help," Corey still didn't believe Benjamin. "Where is Charles? He should be with you," Corey said, looking around.

"He left after I blacked out," Benjamin replied. "You blacked out?" Miles asked with concern. Benjamin nodded.

"I think it was because I used too much chi," Benjamin replied. "Where's the man that captured you?" Miles asked.

"I don't know. He walked off after he put us in the cell," Benjamin replied. Benjamin turned his head to Velena as he began to stir. "We need to get a move on," Lennox suggested.

"It would be cumbersome to carry Velena. We should just wait for him to wake up," Corey replied. "Lennox, you and Miles keep a lookout while Corey and I watch Velena," Benjamin said.

Lennox nodded, and Miles shrugged. Corey shot Benjamin a look before sitting down next to Velena.

"I feel like you've got something to say," Corey said. "Oh boy, do I," Benjamin replied.
