Chapter 12 - Chapter 12:

Shinohara sighed, realizing that he had to prioritize his new role as a special search officer for the CCG. Dealing with the child known as Ominous or Devil would have to be left to someone else.

As he packed his belongings, Shinohara couldn't shake off the worry and concern for the situation in the Ninth District. The thought of a child with such immense power wreaking havoc and hunting down A-level ghouls sent shivers down his spine.

Before leaving the office, Shinohara contacted his trusted colleague, Iwao, and briefed him on the situation. He emphasized the urgency of the matter and the need for immediate action to neutralize the threat posed by the child.

Iwao, understanding the gravity of the situation, assured Shinohara that he would take charge of the investigation and do everything possible to apprehend the child. They had worked together for years and knew they could rely on each other in times of crisis.

With a heavy heart, Shinohara left the Ninth District, knowing that he had to fulfill his new responsibilities as a special search officer. Deep down, he hoped that Iwao and the other investigators would be successful in their mission to stop the child's reign of terror.

Months passed, and Shinohara dedicated himself to his new role, working tirelessly to uphold justice and protect innocent lives from the threat of ghouls. The memory of the child with the ghost mask still haunted him, a constant reminder of the unfinished business he had left behind.

Meanwhile, Iwa and the investigators assigned to the Ninth District pursued the child relentlessly. They coordinated their efforts with other branches of the CCG, pooling their resources and intelligence to track down the elusive Ominous.

The investigation was challenging, as the child seemed to possess an uncanny ability to evade capture. However, the investigators refused to give up, driven by their determination to bring an end to the child's reign of terror. But a certain CCG had an epiphany during this time.

Koutaro Amon was lost in his thoughts about his partner Kureo Mado and the child, and couldn't contain the words that welled up within him. He decided to voice his reflections out loud as if speaking to someone who could understand his sentiments.

"Damn it," Amon muttered under his breath. "It's just not fair. Look at Mado, losing his wife to that...owl."

He paused, his gaze distant as he continued, "And then there's this child. Innocent, unknowing. They didn't choose to be born a ghoul. It's not their fault. Yet they're forced into a life of constant running and fear. It's heartbreaking."

Amon's voice grew more impassioned as he spoke, frustration seeping into his words. "Why does life have to be so cruel? To make a man like Mado, who only seeks justice, and an innocent child, suffer like this? It's unfathomable."

A resolute determination shone in Amon's eyes as he pressed on, his voice filled with conviction. "But I won't stand by and accept it. We can't just let this unfairness go unchallenged. I will do whatever it takes to make a difference, to create a world where birth or circumstance doesn't dictate one's destiny."

His voice carried a tinge of anger, but also a glimmer of hope. "It's so wrong to have a system that refuses to offer alternatives to violence and persecution. It won't be easy, but...but..." as Amon continued to think he realized that no one would have his thoughts as Ghouls kill and eat their friends and family and are viewed as enemies forever it'd take years to forget that pain.

As Koutaro Amon continued thinking he realized that it'd be better to get Mado a cake for his wounds.

The story of the child with the ghost mask would be remembered as a cautionary tale, a reminder of the potential dangers lurking within the ghoul community. It served as a testament to the perseverance and unity of the CCG in the face of formidable threats.

Shinohara continued his work as a special search officer, knowing that his duty to protect humanity from ghouls was far from over. He vowed to honour the memory of those lost to the child's rampage by tirelessly pursuing justice and ensuring the safety of the Ninth District and beyond.

He has been procrastinating for nearly two months since the last time I saw the child, but now he has just found the child's information, but he can't hold on any longer. He will go to the headquarters in the afternoon.

"There is no way, I have to leave it to Ueda~"

With a helpless sigh, Shinohara slowly closed the child's information and carefully confessed that Ueda must take action against the child as soon as possible, otherwise, it will become a major problem in the future.

However, will things really go as Shinohara imagined?

*thud*

The girl's pleas for mercy fell on deaf ears as the child slowly approached, his hunger driving him forward. The girl's heart raced, realizing that escape was futile in this desolate place with no one to hear her cries for help.

Fear consumed her as she desperately searched for any means of survival. Her mind raced, contemplating the grim fate that awaited her. She couldn't accept that her life would end so abruptly, at the hands of a young, cannibalistic ghoul.

Summoning every ounce of courage she had left, the girl mustered a feeble voice, "Please, there must be something I can do for you. Spare my life, and I'll do anything you ask."

The child's gaze flickered with curiosity, his hunger momentarily subsiding as he considered the girl's offer. He had never encountered such a plea before, never had someone willingly offered themselves to him. The girl's desperate proposition intrigued him.

With a faint smile, the child tilted his head slightly, as if pondering the girl's words. After a brief pause, he reached out his small hand and gently touched her cheek, surprising her with a momentary act of tenderness.

"You... you want something from me?" the girl asked, her voice quivering.

The child nodded, his eyes fixed on her, conveying a strange mix of hunger and curiosity. He pointed to his own mouth, indicating his desire for sustenance.

Realizing that the child's hunger could only be satiated by consuming human flesh, the girl's heart sank. She understood the grim reality that she had to make an unthinkable sacrifice to save her own life.

Summoning her last reserves of strength, the girl took a deep breath and nodded, accepting her fate. Tears streamed down her face as she braced herself for the inevitable. The child, sensing her resignation, hesitated for a moment before extending his razor-sharp Kagune.

In that fleeting moment, a loud crash echoed from a nearby window. Startled, the child turned his head to investigate the source of the disturbance. It was a team of CCG investigators, alerted by the suspicious activities in the area.

Seizing the opportunity, the girl managed to break free from the child's grip and stumbled towards the investigators, crying out for help. The child, enraged by the interference, unleashed his Kagune and lunged at the investigators with a ferocity beyond his years.

A fierce battle ensued, the child's raw power clashing with the seasoned skills of the CCG investigators. Despite his combat effectiveness and agility, the child found himself outnumbered and overpowered.

Overwhelmed by the investigators' relentless assault, the child was eventually subdued and restrained. Panting heavily, he stared back at the girl, a mix of anger, hunger, and confusion in his eyes.

The girl, safe but traumatized, watched as the investigators secured the child, realizing the precariousness of her escape. She couldn't help but wonder what would become of the child now, torn between sympathy and the fear he had instilled in her.

As the investigators prepared to transport the child, the girl whispered a silent prayer, hoping that he would find a different path, one that didn't involve the darkness of cannibalism.

The child, too young to fully comprehend the consequences of his actions, was taken into custody by the CCG. His fate now rested in the hands of those tasked with dealing with ghouls, hoping they would find a way to rehabilitate or contain his insatiable hunger.

But the incident served as a stark reminder that there were more children like him, wandering the streets, driven by their instinctive desires. The CCG faced an ongoing challenge of protecting innocent lives while grappling with the moral complexities of dealing with these young and dangerous ghouls.

The girl, forever marked by her encounter with the child, vowed to advocate for measures that addressed the root causes of such tragedies. She became an advocate for education and awareness, hoping to prevent more children from succumbing to the depths of their ghoul instincts.

As for the child, his journey was far from over. Confined within the walls of the CCG, he would undergo examinations, evaluations, and attempts at rehabilitation. The road ahead would be arduous, but there was a glimmer of hope that he could be saved from the darkness that threatened to consume him.

The story of the child with the insatiable hunger would serve as a haunting reminder of the complex nature of the ghoul world, where innocence and darkness could intertwine in the most unexpected ways.
