Chapter 7 - 7- floor 3

{Find a portal to floor 4 before the disaster strikes}

This was going to be a nightmare, Troy thought. The floor of disasters had the goal of just getting to the 4th floor before you died. In order to do that, you had to find a portal to the next floor, of which there was a few spread throughout the floor. Each one had a certain amount of people that could go through before it closed. This was the first challenge. The second came after all the portals closed.

After the portals closed, a natural disaster occurred. After the disaster passed, a new round of portals opened up, but it was nearly impossible to survive them, as the scale of them covered the whole island that the floor was situated on.

Unlike the last floor where everybody was spread out, this floor all 3500 people arrived in one large group. Troy was lucky to have been dropped near the edge of the group, so he would have the advantage on running to the portals.

As soon as his feet hit the ground, Troy ran, his high agility allowing him to slowly pull ahead of the others. Entering a forest, Troy was forced to slow down, lest he trip and injure himself. Running, he looked up and found a large nest. Only caring about getting to a portal, he did not consider fighting whatever was in the nest, but was forced to as an eagle sized black and white shadow dove from a tree. He didn't even need to use appraise to know what it was.

'Natures assholes, magpies. I better kill it fast, or I won't be able to get rid of it.' Stabbing his blade towards it, it simply flew directly up, avoiding the blade before diving back down. As it got closer to Troy, he still did not swing his blade, knowing that it would simply avoid it again. As it got mere feet from his face, its large talons poised to take his eyes, he swung his blade. Swiftly changing directions, the giant magpie almost avoided the strike, but the blade caught its leg. It went into the leg but was unable to get any more than halfway through the bony structure. Ripping the blade back out of the leg, the bird screeched and flew back into the air, only to dive back down towards Troy. Apparently, while being one of the most intelligent birds, it was stupid enough to continued attacking Troy.

"Goddam bird" Troy yelled, while getting flustered and panicking. If this continued for much longer, he might not get through a portal. Swing wildly now, just trying to kill the bird as fast as possible, he forgot about the left blade's sneak attack bonus. It took him another 5 minutes to injure the bird again, this time grounding it with a slash to the wing.

Grabbing it around the neck, Troy wanted to give it a painful death, but because he was worried about the portals closing, he killed it with a single swift stab. "Goddam bird," Troy yelled once more, venting his frustrations. Calming himself down with a few deep breaths, he went over the fight quickly, realizing what he had done wrong. "I forgot the sneak attack bonus." Sighing at his own stupidity, he looked at the bird's nest, then at the bird. The nest was overly large, even for such a large bird. It must have been a chest deposit area. Quickly extracting the bird, he got 7 AGI, 5 INT, and 5 PER.

Scaling the tree, he found a wooden chest. Opening it, it just contained some medicine, which he put in the storage ring. Leaving the tree, he started sprinting, hoping that he could get through a portal. Running as fast as he could, he avoided any creature he found, his focus solely on finding a portal.

It had been nearly two and a half hours of constant running, yet Troy had not found a portal. He knew there were still some left, as he most likely would have gotten a notification from the watch that he had to survive a catastrophe. Deciding he needed to get a vantage point, Troy climbed the tallest tree in the vicinity. Upon reaching the top of the tree, Troy saw a rocky outcropping in the forest near him. In the center of the outcropping, A purple portal rested. He could see it, his salvation. He could also spot a problem. It only had a single use left.

Getting back to the ground in the shortest way possible, Troy ran towards the portal at his fastest speed. The portal was far further than he realized, and it took him 10 minutes of running through the forest before it appeared in his sight.

Speeding up, he was about to run through the portal when he was forced to stop. A sound like a branch being swung through the air was coming from behind him. Barely turning around and putting his right dagger in front of him, he found a branch with broken and jagged rocks all over it merely half a foot from his face.

His attacker was wearing some sports like clothing that was stained by blood. He had several cuts on his face, along with scratches all over his hands. His skin was pale, and his shoulders were wide. He looked to be in his early twenties. Using appraisal, Troy was able to find his stats.

It was only when he did this that Troy realized how abnormal he was. While knowing the name of the first person he would ever kill was not something he liked, he did need to know the competency of the person he was about to fight. After seeing his stats, Troy already had a rough plan on how to end the fight.

Pushing the branch away, Troy took a step forward and stabbed forward with his blade. Hugo blocked, one of his legs moving back to brace himself against Troy's superior strength, before using the longer length of the branch to push Troy off.

Backing off, Troy spotted an opening. While Hugo was still recovering his weapon from the wide swing Troy rushed forward. Stabbing towards the right armpit, Troy was about to end the fight, when Hugo shouted "Defense boost!"

While there was no visual queues that could alert Troy towards what the effects of this was, the fact that his blade was unable to pierce the skin of his foe was enough for him to back off, his back still towards the portal.

Taking the initiative, Hugo attacked Troy with vigor. Swinging his stick down from above, Troy was forced to move back. Despite his swing going further than he intended, Hugo was able to recover quickly and swing from the left. Blocking the attack, Troy moved in.

Hugo, who thought that Troy was going to do the same thing, smiled like he had already won, but when he felt his left arm go numb and then lose feeling before the pain in his armpit started, the smile dropped off his face. "AGGGH!" In his left armpit, Troy's left blade was pierced deep, already dripping blood from where it ran down the blade. The human armpit contained a large amount of nerves, and if stabbed would leave an arm useless for the rest of a person's life.

While Hugo was still screaming in pain, Troy used his right blade, and in one swift motion, pierced from the bottom of the jaw into the brain, killing Hugo. Removing his left blade from the corpse, Troy quickly used extract and went through the portal, leaving the mental trauma of killing a man for later, afraid that another person would come and go through the portal before him.
