Scarlett did not know what to say. Her eyes were trained on the document, and her expression was unreadable. Deep inside she felt nothing but dread and unease throughout her body.
She was aware of Ian's look at her as if she was acting strangely.
"Is everything okay, love?" Ian finally asked, wondering what had triggered her to act this weirdly. Was she alright?
Had she seen something that he had not?
Not for the first time, he felt his wolf rear itself inside of him, wanting to protect his mate. He didn't know what was bothering her, but her sudden behavior change was alarming, to say the least.
He moved closer to her, touching her arm lightly. She gasped, whipping her head up from the file he had given her, and then turning to him abruptly.
"What?" She breathed out, sounding like she had just run a few hundred miles. "What is it, Ian?"
