Wep was getting ready for the day. He had gotten out of bed well before the sun rose as he always did. He was trying to get his hair to cooperate. He noticed he had been putting in more effort than usual with a strong suspicion he knew why also. Once he had finished he stepped out of his room, ready to start another day. If he was honest with himself, the day would be quite long until he had his afternoon lessons with Saiyi. Then as if the mere thought of her willed it to be, he heard her voice calling his name. Down the corridor Saiyi came bounding down. She was still in her night gown. Her bare feet were slap slapping the concrete floor. She was trailing her hair in a messy trail behind her. Other people also readying to start their day had to make way as the Goddess haphazardly bounded down toward him. She nearly ran into him but he managed to stop her gently. Her momentum pinning him to his door. She looked up at him with a toothy smile.
"Hi." She said innocently.
"Morning Saiyi." All eyes were on them now.
"Could we duck into your room. This is your room right?"
"Yes, of course."
They went in trying to avoid drawing more attention. He knew she didn't care as the Chosen were almost beyond reproach. He still had to live here though.
"Wow, boy room." She remarked childishly. His room was relatively spartan. A few shelves lined the walls carrying books and some tools. He had a single bed in the middle of the room. In one corner stood a small desk and chair. There was no discernible decoration. She was not surprised, though compared to her room it seemed very cramped.
"We're getting you an upgrade."
"It's fine really. I spend very little time here."
"No no. I've made up my mind. You need a bigger room. What if I visit. Where will I sit?"
"Saiyi. I don't think you ran down here half dressed to critique my living conditions."
For the first time she realised that he had left the room as she woke up. She shrunk.
"Fuck me."
"Excuse me?"
"It's an expression you daft man. Now turn around."
Wep turned to face the door. He could hear her rustling about the room.
"Saiyi. What's wrong. Why did you come in such a rush."
"Well. Besides for me running around in what is practically underwear." Some more rummaging. "Ah, yes this will work. Did you notice anything else?" Wep stood by as clothes rustled.
"I didn't have much time to notice anything to be fair."
Then close behind him.
"Really. Nothing at all seemed out of the ordinary to you about my presence here."
"Besides for being in my room I haven't noticed anything odd. Good use of sentence structure by the way."
"Why, thank you. If I am to be one of the Chosen my language should be impeccable don't you think."
Finally Wep got it.
"Your language. But how. You sound like a native."
In Wep's surprise he turned about. He had forgotten why he had turned around. Saiyi still in a state of undress stare at him with wide green eyes. The young Chosen's face went bright red. Wep immediately turned staring at the door again.
"I'm so sorry. I was just shocked. By your language." He could hear some deep breaths behind him. He was wondering how much damage an enraged Goddess could do to his room. To him. Saiyi's breaths calmed. Then a warmth pressed against his back.
"It's not a big deal. Did you like what you saw?"
"I saw nothing I swear." Lying suited him poorly.
"Wep. I'm not mad. I've never really done any of this stuff. So honestly, did you like what you saw?"
Damned if you do, damned if you don't. He searched for the right words.
"I think you are beautiful." Wep admitted, carefully avoiding specifics.
"That's not what I asked." He knew it wouldn't be that easy.
"Turn around." She demanded, her heat still at his back.
Wep, not willing or able to deny the Goddess' request turned. Before him stood a young woman. She was lovely even in her unkempt state, perhaps he thought even more so. She had not quite managed to dress and was still missing a shirt. She gave him little time to react and pressed against him, arms wrapping around his midriff. The deity was fully a head shorter than him. He reciprocated holding her, leaning his head on her curls. They stood there for some time. She looked up into his eyes, the corners of her mouth curled.
"Do you Wep of Thay, like what you see."
He dared not risk another verbal response. Instead he kissed her deeply and honestly, thus answering any latent questions she may still have. After she lay her head against his chest again. She radiated heat and smelled of fresh bread. She patted his back side with one hand and separated. She continued getting dressed unashamed of him watching or the fact that she was openly stealing his clothes.
"Sah. How did you do that."
"Easy really. For a while now I've been feeling like I've missed some vital part." She paused to hunt for socks.
"Bottom drawer."
"Thank you. So last night, after my vision, the Mother Goddess visited."
"Wait. Kakai of the Old Gods was here." He handed her a shirt.
"Your so kind. Smells like you also." Both smiled.
"Sah, that's a big deal."
"See I thought so too." She paused again, battling with the buttons. Wep, gingerly helped her. She continued.
"So she tells me that I've been using the amulet all wrong."
"Can we get back to the vision first?"
"Finally." Saiyi proclaimed. She was wearing a shirt that was oversized covering the top of pants that had to be held up with a belt. Her feet sported some of Wep's favourite boots. Her hair seemed beyond rescue at this point.
"Well I guess I have to give you the whole deal."
Saiyi told Wep about her vision. She explained about the strange figures, the woman in black. She told him about Kez, her father and the sea of fire. He sat listening, only interrupting when he thought he missed something. Then she continued telling him about the visit form The Mother Goddess and how the amulet can help her learn. By the time she had finished they had arrived back at her room. She had drawn some stares on the way, but nobody would question one of the Chosen's fashion sense, much like no one would dispute a lion getting on the couch. She entered her room all but dragging Wep with her. She reversed the process from earlier, this time changing into her normal island attire. Wep decided not to take advantage and stared off into space the entire time.
"Saiyi it's all pretty significant. You say you don't trust Kakai. Yet whenever Kez Visat spoke of her, he made her sound so lovely and kind. Almost as if he truly loved her."
"Well there also, I suspect something is up. I'm done by the way."
"Oh." Wep relaxed, much preferring Saiyi's face to the ceiling when talking.
"Please Wep. You can't mention any of this to Kez or Shi."
"I will not volunteer any information Sah. But if asked directly, I physically cannot lie to my Lord."
"Fair enough. I will take that. Thank you." She pecked his cheek.
"Anytime." He rubbed his cheek fondly.
"Let's not dwell on this until we can speak privately and for when we aren't late."
Wep checked his wrist display. They had missed breakfast by an hour and were overdue for flight lessons. They both rushed out of her room only to find Shiwa a few feet from knocking.
"Ah." Is all she could say. Saiyi was too embarrassed to speak. Wep attempted a rescue.
"I can explain Lady Shiwa."
Shiwa held up a stern hand. Her face showing contempt.
"I don't want to hear it." She put her hand on Saiyi's shoulder and beckoned for Wep to continue his day. He slinked away apologising as he went. When he was out of earshot Shiwa leaned to Saiyi.
"I want to hear all of it." She was like a teenager, giddy for gossip.
"You are terrible."
"Tell me. I'll beg if I have to." The older Goddess pouted a lip.
"Nothing happened." Saiyi insisted, play shoving Shiwa.
"Alright. If you say so. Was nothing any good."
"Shi!" Saiyi exclaimed exasperated.
They continued on to her lessons.
