Sooner or later, the evaluation for classes began. All the children were called onto the immense stage and turn by turn, we had to place both our hands on a weird-looking glass orb. *snap*, A blistering flame was lit.
"Your affinity is Ignis, the power to control flame mana - great for offensive spells! Good job, you may go back to your seat", Mr. Paul himself was assessing us.
One after another, everyone discovered their affinities and eventually, it came my turn.
If I recall correctly, there are four types of affinities. Ignis, the ability to control flame mana, Ventus, the ability to control wind mana, Aqua, the ability to control water mana and Earth, the ability to control matter.
"Place your hands on the orb, Arthur" Mr. Paul asked me with a sweet voice.
"I wonder what my affinity will be, have you any idea, sir?" I asked.
He replied instantly "I'm sure you will have two affinities or more, believe in yourself!".
I laid my hands on the orb and waited. I waited and waited.
Mr. Paul seemed confused and murmured "Something seems to be wrong, I think the orb's dysfunctioning? No, it can't be.. What's going on? Arthur, try it again".
I slowly rested both my hands on the orb, and nothing was happening. I knew something was going on.. He called the person behind me and let him set his hands on the orb, just like how I did. It formed a gust of potent wind.
"Your affinity is Ventus, it's personally my favorite affinity! You can control wind mana and it's quite useful for defensive and day-to-day spells, great job!".
Once the boy left, Mr. Paul told me to go back to my seat and wait until he completed with the evaluations.
It was afternoon, and everyone has found out their affinities. There was someone who had two affinities as well, Ignis and Aqua - the polar opposites.
Mr. Paul's inhale was heard through the microphone, then with a deep voice he exclaimed "Ladies and gentlemen, your children's affinity evaluations were wonders, and we have also came across a child with dual affinity! These children are bright and strong, I sincerely look forward to teaching them tomorrow. Thank you for taking your time attending this convention."
After everyone had left, Mr. Paul called me over to his room.
He looked confused and was literally questioning his sanity "What is going on..? It worked for everyone aside you, Arthur? What could this possibly mean? There should only be four affinities! Arthur, follow me, we're going to detect your mana level instead".
I, myself, didn't know what was going on so I followed him without haver. He requested me to lay my hands on yet another, weird looking orb accoutered in eerie stones. A number appeared right above the orb..'0'..'1'...'9'....'999'.. it kept going up and in due time it showed..'∞'.
"Huh..INFINITY?!??! WHAT IS THIS??! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE, ARTHUR??!" Mr. Paul was blaring while tightly gripping my arms.
After a clamorous exhale, he sat on a couch and started scratching his head. He then reached out to one of the thousands of books on his bookshelf and started flapping through the pages.
"I can't find it, I can't find it, where did it mention infinity mana levels??!!?" Mr. Paul wouldn't stop blabbering and seemed dumbfounded.
"Arthur.." he stared at me right in the eyes.."you may be the first person on Skystead to have infinity mana levels you know.. even Adept rank mages only have around 5000 - 10000 mana levels. Matter of fact, us Celestial rank mages only have mana levels in a range of 1 million to 1 billion. The orb may not have detected your affinity possibly due to the amount of mana overspilling when it detected your hand. ARGGHHHH, I don't know what to do right now.. have you ever used mana before, Arthur?" I nodded my head and heaved a sigh.
"Mana can be drawn out through consciousness, that's right, but you may have wondered why you couldn't have used it all this time? You can control mana in your head ONLY when you have the utmost experience in using spells. For starters, you chant and thus, build a versatile image in your head and control mana. Try chanting this - 'Thy mana of water, respond'".
I replied "Sure I guess.. Thy mana of water, respond!".
Droplets of water started forming on my skin, and started to overflow. Now that I know mana is controlled by consciousness, I tried to stop producing water through my mind - and it worked! Next I tired producing flames - it did! And I didn't feel any warmth at all, it was a rather weird feeling. I tried doing the same for the other two affinities and they worked as well, supposedly I could use all four affinities!
Mr. Paul sprawled and stared at me astonishingly..
