After breakfast, Jennie took me to the official floor, only the floor that was out of boundary to many people, and the staff there were strictly the ones that were in the offices, like the ones of the management department. At least that's what Jennie told me as we were walking. In this department, there were offices of the management and finance department, housekeeping Hotel Department, Maintenance Hotel Department, reservations & Marketing Hotel Department, and human Resource Hotel Department. The offices were stationed on the floor we were heading to. The front office hotel department was situated on the first floor, where the visitors were received, and dealt with creating the guest database, handling guests' accounts, coordinating guests service,
Selling services, ensuring guests' satisfaction, and handling in-house communication through PBX(enabling users to share certain numbers of external phone lines).
Lifts are making me have nausea but it's something ill have to get used to, it's not like I want to be here but I have to.
"Do you have an ID?" Jennie asked. I looked at her and shook my head. I didn't even know what that meant.
"Oh God... that woman won't have mercy on you Gianna... how old are you by the way? Do you have a passport? Or maybe any certificates of where tho studied or at least something to show your identity?" All I did know was just shake my head because I just realized I didn't have anything that she was asking for.
"Help me think of a way to save you... She won't let you stay here if you don't have any of those, especially if Mr. Cedric visits and doesn't get any of those the whole hotel will be in a problem" she said scratching her head and messing her hair.
"First stop messing your hair, and second who is Mr. Cedric and three why do I need those documents you're talking about," I asked a little bit confused. Looking at her reaction she thought I was joking.
"Your kidding right?... Like your literally kidding me right now huh" she told you, her reaction tells it all.
"Who is Mr. Cedric?" I asked again because she seemed to have forgotten that I had asked her the question. She looked at me almost beaming with anger.
" Hey, I'm trying to think here and save you, do you think she will just let you be if there's no document linking to you... she will definitely involve the police, and trust me that's not cool, not cool not cool," she said stamping her feet on the ground. This gave me shivers, how could I not have thought about this?
"Stand straight" This caught me off-guard and I looked at her not understanding what she meant. By the look she gave me I immediately stood straight,
"Look directly into the camera and make a neutral face" I did as she said and she took the pictures. I guess two or three. She then called someone on her phone.
"Hey, Derrick, I've just sent you the pictures right now just do what you need to do, in the next ten minutes, don't worry about the payment I'll sort you out later," she said and immediately hang up. She then looked at me and I was confused.
" What was all the about?" I asked looking at her with a confused face. I couldn't have it because I don't know what she did. And why did she send the pictures to that Derrick guy, wait does she think I'm a thief or something?
" I'm not a thief or something... I hope you didn't call the police on me" I said looking at her with open eyes.
"You not from this country are you?" I almost choke on my saliva. Was I busted or something? ".... It's okay, you are a good person and I want to help you..." Thank the stars it's not a big deal.
"Yeah, I'm not from here, that's why I don't have the documents... Please don't tell on me" I said making a pleading face and she nodded. Easy to convince isn't she?
The elevator opened and we got out. She held my hand before I could walk forward.
"Just I saw she asks you, your Gianna Green, twenty years old, studies at the University of California Santa Cruz, currently doing hotel management and you're on internship... Keep that in mind or else your screwed... and try to buy time so that Derrick works on those details I've so that they'll show in case she tries to look them up" she said in a low voice as if she was whispering. I nodded and then she led me to the office.
" Thank you for this..." I said and she smiled. I knocked and got inside leaving her behind.
"I want your details." those were the words that welcomed me. She was seated on the office chair, facing the window and what I saw was the back of the seat.
" My name is Gianna, I'm sorry for how I loomed yesterday, it's just that someone stole my bag and shoes and they tried to hurt me, good thing I escaped, so I thank you for this opportunity, I was looking for a job before they attacked me..." I said and then kept quiet.
" So you are a storyteller, whatever happened doesn't concern me, does where you come from people only have one name?" she asked in her usual arrogant voice.
"Oh, sorry about that, Gianna Green," I said.
"Is that all?" She turned and looked at Gianna. She then pressed on her computer, looked at it, and then looked at her.
"There's no Gianna Green here, are you sure that's your name?" She asked looking at me.
"Yes it's my name, actually my dad named me, I miss him so much," I said trying to smile. How the hell was I going to hut time when this woman was so fast?
"I still can't find and I think I should call security," she said taking the telephone. " My suspicions on you are right... I don't think you're an angel" she said pressing some digits on the telephone. " How do you explain a pretty girl like you, coming out of nowhere at night and pretending that she has been robbed whilst she doesn't even have an ID?....might as well be working with a gang and want to rob us...or wait maybe planning to bomb the hotel or something, did they sent you here as a spy? " she said mockingly.
"Please check it again, I went to the University of California Santa Cruz, and I'm twenty years old, please check it again, I'm not lying and I'm not working with anyone, please madam" This was not good at all. Why hadn't that Derrick guy done something? Was this how I was going to be defeated even before I start what brought me here? He had to do something. She stopped pressing the buttons and then pressed on the computer one more time. She looked at me and then I knew it was over.
