Chapter 2 - Dragons are my family

I was all alone. The darkness was still enveloping the blue barrier that was protecting me, but it couldn't breakthrough. Whatever this was, it was saving my life. Although, I don't get why my mother didn't use it on both of us. Why did she have to...

I sobbed quietly, not wanting to bring any attention to me since I don't know what was out there. Along with my silent sobs, the darkness disappeared and all I was was a blood-red sky. And within that blood-red sky, I saw a shadow. It was... majestic. A being of fantasy back in my world. A dragon.

It flew towards me, presumably because it saw the blue barrier surrounding me. As it got closer, I could hear the loud flapping of its wings and see its color. It was a large crimson dragon! I looked at it in wonder and awe as it landed in front of me.

"Dear me, aren't you a lucky one?" Said the dragon in a deep yet soothing male voice.

'The dragon spoke! Its mouth didn't exactly open, but it spoke nonetheless.'

While I was adoring this majestic creature, he used Magic to raise me to his eye level. His eyes glowed bright orange as he seemed to assess me. After about a minute, his eyes stopped glowing as he chuckled.

"Another outlander?"

'Wait, what?'

I was quite surprised when he suddenly found out that I wasn't from this world. Although, I should have expected that. After all, dragons are wise. The dragon chuckled and then began to cast a barrier around me. Man, people really like using barriers in this world huh?

"It seems that you have been born in a rather unfortunate time... Fear not, I shall raise you as my own."

Once more, I was surprised. Really? A dragon raising me? Isn't this a bit too good to be true? Well, other than my parents dying right before my eyes, this life has been generous already. Since I can't really reply, I just nodded my little head. Hell, even that was a bit difficult.

And so, for the past 17 years, I was raised by that very crimson dragon and his family. I later learned his name to be Sepheron.

-3rd Person POV-

"Hyah!"

Rein yelled out as he threw a punch. His target, a boulder, was blown to bits in just a single shot. The white-haired young man sighed as he looked at what he did. He looked around and saw a lot more shattered rocks and even some ores of some kind.

"No matter what I do, I still can't find something that can survive my attacks..."

For the past few months now, Rein has been on the lookout for something to use as a material for his weapon. Now, why was he smashing boulders as well? Because he was frustrated of course. Giving up for the day, Rein decided to go home.

As he walked through the dense forestry, he was suddenly tangled up by vines. The vines then hoisted him up, leaving him dangling on a tree upside down. With a sigh, you could say this is his hobby, he called out to the culprit.

"Lydia, put me down..."

"Fufu, why don't you just burn the vines?" A beautiful girl with light green hair and dark green eyes said as she phased from a tree. She wore a simple white dress that compliments her pale skin. Truly, she was a beauty.

"Last time I did that, you hit my head for almost burning a tree down."

She chuckled once more as she made the vines let go of Rein. He flipped as soon as the vines let go so he landed on my feet as soon as I hit the ground. Heh, nailed it. Lydia walked close to him and gave him a pat on the head.

"There, there. You didn't find any materials again, right?"

"Oh c'mon, that just sounds like you're pitying me..."

With a sigh, she stood up on her tip-toes and gave him a kiss on his forehead. His cheeks turned bright red. Lydia had begun doing this just about a month ago and he still couldn't get used to it. The Dryad smiled as Rein sighed once more. He began his back home with Lydia following him closely.

After a few minutes of silence, Lydia spoke up.

"Are you sure about this, Rein? Leaving us like that..."

"You could always come with me you know?"

She just shook her head. She knew that even if she came with him, she'll only be a burden. After all, compared to someone like him, she would just be a fly. Rein knew that this was how she sees herself, but in truth, she was more powerful than any human that he's seen.

When they arrived at the small cabin they were living in, they were greeted by the sound of flapping wings from above. They both looked above and smiled as they saw Sepheron. The dragon greeted them and they also did in kind.

"Now then," The dragon glowed bright red. After a few seconds, the light dissipated and what appeared in the place of the dragon was a bulky man. He had crimson red hair and burning orange eyes. He may look intimidating at first, but his cheery smile says otherwise. That's right, Sepheron is a Dragonoid. A dragon that can turn into a human at will.

"Ah, welcome home, dear. Welcome home too, Rein and Lydia."

A beautiful woman who appeared to be in her early 20s came out of the cabin. She had long blonde hair and silver eyes. This was Rein's adoptive mother, Gin. With a warm smile, she gestured for the three to come in. They all complied and went into the cozy cabin.

This was Rein's life for the past 17 years. A loving family, a beautiful local Dryad, and a cozy place to live in. He couldn't ask for more... but little did he know, all of it will change the next day because of a certain summoned Hero.
