Chapter 2 - First Skill

After the level up screen had disappeared, another one appeared, 'Congratulations On Killing Your First Monster. As A Reward For This, You Will Be Given A Chance To Randomly Draw A Skill. This Chance Will Never Be Given Again, However It Is Not Necessary For You To Use This Chance.'

Once this screen left, another popped up, 'Accept / Deny.'

Lycaon thought to himself for less than ten seconds before deciding, 'There isn't a reason for me to turn the offer down, surely whatever I get can help me even if it is int he short term.'

Lycaon pressed on the accept button, and a lottery machine appeared. Inside the machine were balls of all different colours which Lycaon assumed to be the skills. They were all moving around at an incredibly high speed, and after ten seconds a dinging noise occurred.

The dinging noise indicated that the skill had been chosen, and a purple ball came out. Lycaon held the ball in his hands and wondered how to use it, but this was quickly figured out as a screen appeared once again.

'The Skill Conjure Sword Has Been Drawn, this skill will allow you to create a sword at any time in the form decided by your soul. This sword will become more powerful as the skill's rank increases. Would You Like To Use One Of Your Skill Slots For This Skill?

Accept / Deny.'

Without hesitation, Lycaon clicked accept. In his opinion, this skill was a very good choice as it would mean he constantly had a way of fighting monsters and would not have to deal with broken weapons in the future.

Now that he had gotten the unforeseen event of drawing a skill from a lottery out of the way, he wanted to check his status as he had levelled up.

Name: Lycaon Oberon

Age: 16

Species: Human

Death Count: 0

Star:

Level: 3

Skill Slots (19):

Conjure Sword (Basic. 0%)

Lycaon was happy to see that his level had increased by two, and although he had no way of checking his stats such as strength or agility, he could feel that his body was slightly stronger than before. he was also glad to see that his first skill was actually in one of his skill slots. He also realised that he would more than likely need to get the percentage of his skill to 100% if he wanted it to increase from the Basic rank.

Now that Lycaon had checked his status, he wanted to test out his first skill. He focused on the name of the skill in hope that it would work by thinking of its name, but this did not work. The only other way that he could think of to summon his sword was to say the name f the skill out loud, "Conjure Sword."

As soon as he finished his words, a bright purple flash engulfed him and, once it dissipated, Lycaon was already holding his conjured sword. The sword was around two metres long, thirty centimetres wide, and ten centimetres thick. It was pitch black in colour, apart from the white engravings of symbols that covered the blade.

While the sword seemed to be much too big for Lycaon to hold, let alone use, he managed to easily hold it with both hands and even just one hand. This surprised him, as he did not think he would have been able to hold something as large as his conjured sword.

As there was no way for him to die, and he had a seemingly good weapon, Lycaon decided to try and find some monsters to kill in an attempt to raise his level and start putting even the smallest dent in his mission.

He started walking down his street while making sure that he had not missed any monsters in the houses he walked past. For the first few houses there were no monsters apart from the one he had already killed, but luckily he found a group of three zombie creatures walking near a house a few more doors down.

Feeling more confident now that he had a sword, Lycaon ran at the zombies and as soon as he was within a distance that he could reach them with his sword, he slashed at the first zombie. This did a lot more than he had originally expected, as the zombie was split in half cleanly and easily. As this was easier than he had expected, Lycaon immediately swung his sword again, this time decapitating another zombie as if he was slicing through soft butter. The third, and final, zombie in the group tried to scratch Lycaon in an attempt to injure him. However, this was mostly unsuccessful as only a tiny scratch was left on his arm. In response to this, Lycaon raised his sword and slashed vertically downwards and split the zombie in two.

'Level Up'

As Lycaon was about to check his status, he noticed something, his arm had started to become a bit discoloured, and black lines could be seen underneath his skin.

'Shit, that tiny scratch must have done this. Well, I don't know if turning into a zombie will count as me dying or becoming undead, which means I might not be counted as dead. Guess I should kill myself just incase.'

Lycaon, using his conjured sword, cut his own head off.

'You Have Died. You Will Now Be Revived.'

In the same place that he had killed himself, Lycaon found himself lying down with no feeling of pain in his body, 'Well that was easy, at least I know it works.'

He stood up and checked his arm for the scratch that had meant he needed to kill himself and, as he had expected, it was gone. Now that he had been cured of his injury, he decided to check his stats.

Conjure Sword (Basic. 3%)

Just as he had expected, his level had only gone up by two despite killing three enemies. He knew this was because it would be harder to level up as his level increased. He was also happy to see that his Conjure Sword skill had gotten a 3% advancement. This made him realise that every one of the zombies would be worth 1% for the first upgrade, and he assumed that stronger enemies would contribute more to this.

Lycaon then went back to searching his street for monsters, and found eleven more zombie like creatures, all of which he killed without receiving a single injury. After this, as it had started to get a bit dark, Lycaon went back into his house and went to sleep.
