Chapter 9 - Really? Estate?

Caesar went back to his secret sewage laboratory with 10 kilograms worth of Joy ingredients. This would last for 1 week before the molecular integrity of the items would be destroyed.

He looked at the shabby laboratory equipment and started to prepare to cook some Joy powders. He washed some tubes and heated up the fireplace using firewood and a match.

Cooking Joy was a hard and laborious task, but Caesar was no stranger to working his body to the limit. He would rather work his body till it breaks than live in poverty.

As he combined the ingredients, white smoke came out of the vases and flowed into the ceiling where it dispersed into the atmosphere at the surface.

Caesar wasn't worried that people would smell the chemical reaction because this part of the town usually smelled bad. There was garbage and waste littered around the street, so it would mask the smell of the Joy production.

Time passed by without Caesar having no knowledge of it. He was in complete focus in his task as one little mistake could waste not only his ingredients, but also his time.

Some of these ingredients, like the Torfune's chitin, should be crushed until it was powder. However, the chitin was as hard as stone and since Caesar was only using his body and a hammer, it took a lot of his energy to do so.

The professional laboratories that the drug dealers used had a special crushing machine that would make this process so much faster and so much easier. But it cost 200,000 coins to purchase and 10,000 coins per month to maintain. He didn't have that kind of money right now.

With just his body, it took him 30 minutes to crush a few grams of the chitin, and he needed to continue doing so until he had a few hundred grams.

Caesar let his body take over, letting his mind wander while working his body. And 12 hours later, Caesar's body was at its limit. His arms were aching and his clothes were coated with sweat. There were discarded ingredients in the ground, which were useless, and a few broken measuring devices.

Those tubes and pans finally broke after this session, which meant that he would have to buy another set of cooking materials. But that didn't matter because it resulted in 1 kilogram of pure Joy collected into one bowl.

With 1,000 Parou per 1 gram of pure Joy, Caesar now had P100,000 worth of money in his hands. This was pure profit because he didn't have to pay for the ingredients. As long as he sold all these Joy powders, he would be rich.

Now, the problem was with selling it. Berk would come back a week later looking for 5 kilograms, which Caesar could make in 5 days of non-stop production.

As long as he did that, he could sell it for 500,000. However, he had an agreement with Berk that they would split it 50-50, which meant that Caesar would get 250,000 coins.

Caesar didn't mind the profit right now as spreading his product was more important. He wanted his product to be popular as fast as possible, and he couldn't wait for another 6 days.

For now, he had to spread the word himself. He had to sell this 1 kilogram worth of Joy to anyone that would spread the word for him. The word of mouth was always the best advertisement.

But he shouldn't worry about that for now. It was already late in the night, and he needed to go back to the orphanage. Even if there was no punishment for staying late, it would garner some questions.

Also, he needed to sleep. He had been awake for 48 hours late, and his mental integrity was starting to deteriorate. He didn't want to shorten his already 5 year lifespan due to the schizophrenia.

He went back in stealth to the quiet orphanage. The candles in the social hall were lit up, which meant that it was time for dinner.

Caesar quietly took his dinner—fishbone stew, ate it, and went directly to his room. He had roommates that were busy talking to each other, but Caesar went to sleep as soon as his eyelids closed.

The next morning, Caesar went out of his room while the sun was still not out. He had thirty minutes before the morning bell rang and woke up everyone in the room.

Most of the kids were still asleep, while the older ones went out early to look for work.

Caesar's agenda for today was to find potential customers that were part of a big group. His potential customers could be those rich college students wanting to find a good time, stressed office workers, or just rich people wanting to try something new.

To do that, he needed to go out into the business center of the town and inspect them. He went out to his usual broken window to sneakily get out, but he realized that there was someone there.

Not one, but two people were talking to each other. One was hushed in her tone of voice, while the other had an annoyed tone in her words.

Both were women, and he recognized one of them. She was the Foster mother, the person taking care of the whole orphanage. She sounded like she was pleading towards the person she was talking to.

"Theresa, how much longer do you need? If you want to buy the property, then I need the money now. There are a lot of offers that I can't put off for you," said the unknown woman.

"Erica, please. I have most of the money, but I have to pay off Berk first. He's asking for more money," Theresa said.

This was the first time Caesar heard the foster mother's real name. The woman named Erica called her Theresa, which meant that they were familiar with her.

Even in the orphanage, Theresa would order the orphans to call her Mother or aunt. She would never tell anyone her real name.

"I know you have a tough time, but I'm running a business. That property that I reserved for you is big and out of sight from the town. There are a lot of people offering a lot of money to buy that land," Erica said.

Caesar finally noticed that Erica was out of place in this area. This street was filled with garbage and trash littered around the street, but Erica was wearing expensive clothes made of silk while smelling like lilac perfume.

From their conversation alone, Caesar guessed that Erica was a real estate agent who sold houses and land to rich people. This was a lucrative business, which was evidenced by the jewelry in her neck.

"Please. I only need one more month before I can pay the 300,000 coins down payment," Theresa said, grabbing Erica's arm and begging her.

It seemed that Theresa wanted to buy a big plot of land that was worth 300,000 coins in down payment. He didn't know that Theresa was saving up that much amount of money.

"It's hard. They are pressuring me to sell it to them, and I'm beginning to relent," Erica said while scratching her head.

"Please!"

Erica took a deep breath and shook her head. "Fine. One month. If it wasn't for owing my life to you, I would have sold it already. I would be really really rich."

Theresa took a big sigh of relief. She was given leeway and now she had the time to gather the money needed to buy the property.

Caesar didn't care for the reason why Theresa was buying a large property. He was not a generous man that would give away that kind of money even if he had it.

No, he was focused on Erica. With her business with Theresa done, Erica started to walk away back towards the better side of the town.

He could see that there were bags under her eyes with stress marks around her forehead. She was clearly under a lot of pressure in need of a release. Caesar smiled and decided to follow her.

But before he did, he made some preparations. He searched for a rat near the garbage cans and hid it in the back of his shirt. He pinched the back of the rat's neck and made it sleep. This rat will be useful later.

Erica walked towards the northern side of the town where the rich and richer were located. The houses and the streets were clean with maids and butlers personally cleaning it.

Erica then suddenly took a turn and faced Caesar.

"Why are you following me?!" Erica said while taking out a small gun from her handbag. But as soon as she saw the poor teenager appearance of Caesar, she let down her gun.

"I don't do charity kid," she said as she turned around and walked away.

"I'm not here for charity. I want to rent a property," Caesar said.

Erica subconsciously turned around with the prospect of new business, but she remembered that she was dealing with a poor kid. What kind of house could a poor kid rent?

"I can rent you a dog kennel, a room at the sewage, or you can have the world as your backyard as long as you sleep in the street." Erica was annoyed since she had better things to do while this kid was bothering her.

Caesar smiled and pointed at the front. "I want to rent that," he said while pointing at a luxurious house that was one of the most expensive houses to rent in this street.
