Chapter 26 - Appreciate Your Talent

Y City.

Qi Ming Wei returned to the military compound with a dark look on his face.

As the helpers saw the look on his face, they could not help but try to reduce their presence lest the young commander would find a reason to cause trouble for them.

In the end, it was the old butler, Uncle Fu who dared to approach him. The old man walked over and greeted, "Young Master, you're back."

Qi Ming Wei replied to him with a nod. "Where is my grandfather?"

"The Old Master should be in his study," Uncle Fu spoke. "Young Master, you can go in and look for him. The Old Master has been expecting your arrival."

"I know." Turning around, Qi Ming Wei went to find his grandfather. When he arrived, Qi Ming Wei knocked on the door and entered the room upon being permitted to come in.

Qi Xi Feng was reading some documents in his study when his grandson walked in. He raised his head to look at his grandson before taking off his reading glasses. "You're back." His expression was solemn. "Come over and sit down."

He could already guess the reason why his grandson was looking for him urgently.

Qi Ming Wei walked over and stood in front of the table. He did not make a move to take his seat as he asked impatiently, "Grandfather, why do we need to stop pursuing that incident in Capital City?"

The old man stared back at his grandson unhappily. However, no matter how fierce his gaze turned to be, this grandson was refusing to budge. Qi Xi Feng let out a heavy sigh and pointed at the chair across from him. "Sit down first."

After a brief hesitation, Qi Ming Wei had no other choice but to take his seat. "The few shooting incidents in Capital City were not that simple," Qi Ming Wei said. "Too many people had died and I know that we are very close to finding out who was the mastermind. You need to tell me a reason why you wanted me to stop investigating."

"This isn't what I want," Qi Xi Feng spoke. "It was an order from the higher up."

As soon as he heard his grandfather's answer, the look on Qi Ming Wei's face turned uglier. "Why?"

"You know why," Qi Xi Feng did not bother to explain.

They both knew that the reason the higher-up had given them such instruction was that someone powerful was involved in this incident.

Qi Ming Wei was unwilling to let go of the case that he had been working on for months. The thought that this investigation had to be stopped to protect someone with money and power made him feel disgusted.

"Let's not think of this matter first," Qi Xi Feng spoke. "Ming Wei, you have to know when to retreat to advance. Let's just wait until this matter is quietened down a little bit. Then, you might continue to investigate discreetly.

He could not help but sneer. "By the time that happened, perhaps every evidence will be wiped out. What about the public? Do you think that we will be able to keep this matter under wrap?"

"The higher management wanted you to let the police solve this matter," QI Xi Feng said. "You should begin to hand over the case to them soon. When the time comes, the public will stop paying attention to this matter."

Qi Ming Wei pursed his lips into a thin line. Although he was not happy, there was nothing else that he could do with the higher-ups involved.

However, he made a note to himself to assign a few of his men to continue to find that woman secretly. The woman would know something. When the time comes, perhaps he could work together with her and bring whoever was involved in this matter to justice.

"There is another reason why I ask you to come over," Qi Xi Feng continued. "The President saw that you were working hard to bring peace to Capital City. He has been watching you for a few years and had appreciated your talent."

This might sound like good news, but Qi Xi Feng's expression remained serious as the same. Who knew whether gaining the attention of someone powerful like the president would be good or not?

Qi Ming Wei narrowed his eyes.

These things were something that his grandfather could tell him through the phone. But the old man had insisted on his return to Y City.

Suddenly, Qi Ming Wei had a premonition.

"The President wanted you to work with him as part of his security team," Qi Xi Feng announced.

"Grandfather!" Qi Ming Wei stood up abruptly, pushing the chair behind him. There was a hint of anger in his eyes. His both hands balled into fists as he tried to push down his emotion. "I don't want to do it."

Qi Xi Feng continued to look at his grandson calmly. As the person who had watched this boy grow up, how can he not understand what was going on in his grandson's mind?

"Even if you are not willing to do it, this is something that you have to do," Qi Xi Feng said. "The President had personally mentioned your name. Ming Wei, you can't escape this. Remember your duty."

Of course, Qi Ming Wei still remembered his duty to the country and its people.

Working with the president might sound like it was something great. However, he was someone who wanted to do great things for the country. Following the president around as part of his security team was something he wanted to do.

"This is non-negotiable," Qi Xi Feng continued. "Unless if you no longer wanted to be a soldier, then, you cannot say no."

He closed his eyes and let out a heavy breath. Qi Ming Wei could not hide his disappointment. Rather than saying that this was a good opportunity, Qi Ming Wei thought that the President only wanted to suppress his talent.

Was it related to the matters he was investigating in Capital City?

"I understood that you are not happy. However, Ming Wei, you have to look into a bigger picture," Qi Xi Feng continued. "Just do it for a few years. If you are smart enough, this situation might give you the opportunity to do what you want."

Qi Ming Wei spent almost an hour listening to his grandfather. When he walked out again, the look on his face grew darker than the time he came in.

He walked out of the house and entered his car. Then, he called his men and gave them a few instructions.

If he was going to work for the president, there were a few things that he have to arrange first.
