Chapter 63 - Promises, Promises

George wrapped a protective hand around Cynthia's waist, he wanted to be the shoulder she cried on. His heart fluttered when she leaned on him, the difference between their heights was very significant to begin with, but it was always much more evident when he pulled her closer.

Under any normal circumstances, George would've been devastated to witness her shed all these tears, but the words 'don't cry darling,' were stuck inside of his heart. He hated it. He hated that he had to choke back on the feelings he had for her. But he was convinced that this was his redemption. Some mistakes were like this, one ended up paying for them their whole life.

He took a centering breath and then let it all out. He was happy to see her body reacting to his, it was an unconscious reaction on her side, but Cynthia breathed in deeply right after he did.

It almost unnerved him.
