Chapter 13 - The Artist in the Shadows

"...."

"So you're telling me that what I interpreted was actually the whole scene?" asked Mia with a neutral look on her face.

Me, whose gaze never left the ground slowly hesitantly nodded. Mia's actions came to a pause where she dived deep into her thoughts and seconds later... She exploded.

"Woah~!!!! Oh, my Gawwd! That is so cool! You are just like a novel or movie's main female character. Woah~ I still can't believe it"

"Shhh~ Calm down. You're too loud" I begged Mia to calm down as she nodded and sat down.

She stayed calm for a moment but a second later, she again squealed, making me doubt my decision to tell her the truth.

"And what do you mean by the main character? Please leave me out of your fantasies I am already stressed enough because of that guy appearing everywhere like a ghost" I expressed my displeasure to which Mia laughed and nodded.

"Well, I kinda thought that Boss was hot and had a teeny weeny crush on him but I'll step back since you are his fated one" Mia acted as if she was taking an oath.

I looked at her in disbelief, "Enough of it already! You can keep him. I am not the least interested in your Boss~" and the bickering started again. I was getting irritated and Mia had no plans of letting this slide that easily.

"Oh my God~ That was a disaster"

I dropped my body on the couch as a groan of satisfaction was heard by me. Abigail came to me with a glass of water which I gulped down in one go.

"Woah~ Chill, Sis. You seem exhausted today for some reason" Abigail expressed her query.

I looked at her, "Because I am" Abigail opened her mouth to speak further but before she could let out any word, I cut her off, "Don't ask why!!"

Abigail closed her lips again and nodded. I then got up and headed towards my room to freshen up. I took a long warm bath to relax my mind and then came out in my pajamas with a satisfying feeling.

"Sis, come and eat dinner. I ordered fried chicken today!!"Abigail's excited voice reached my ears, making me smile. I shook my head.

I replied to her while yelling from the room that I'd be out in a minute. I was about to leave the room when a book on the table suddenly caught my attention. I went and picked up the book as a smile took over my face.

"She again sneakily took my book to read. This is the fourth time already. Should I just gift it to her??"

"Sis, Hurry!! The chicken is getting cold"

I again placed the book on the table and headed out upon the second call from Abigail. As for the book I was talking about?

It is named, 'The Artist in the Shadows', a nationwide best-selling book, written by AG Nimi. The identity of this writer had always been unknown which made it even more special. This was the first and last novel written by this writer. Many publishing centers tried to locate the writer but never succeeded.

They did everything to find the writer but what they didn't know was that the person they were looking for was working in a small coffee shop, earning to complete her degree that she couldn't complete before.

The AG in the pen name was the abbreviation of no other name but, Aurora Gray. And Nimi was the nickname given to her by her father.

Yes, Aurora Gray was the author of the nationwide best-selling book that has created hype for a while and is still on top-grossing books even after five years of release. She claimed her ownership without even revealing her name yet not even hiding it. Abigail is not aware of the fact that her sister is the author of her favorite book which she has read four times.

A week after Aurora turned eighteen, their father died due to overwork pressure. Abigail was thirteen at that time and it had left quite an effect on her mental health. Since there was no breadwinner in the family, Aurora had to give up on her studies and look for a job so that Abigail could continue her studies.

She worked day and night and did two jobs at the same time. Worked in a café in the morning and in a convenience store at night. She did deliveries on the weekends and wrote at night to relieve a little of her stress.

When she was twenty she secretly published this book of hers without expecting much from it but to her luck, her book took off and became a best-selling book within just a month of release.

And with the money she earned from it, she again applied to the university to gain the degree that she wanted to do back then but wasn't able to. She still worked together while studying, keeping both in balance. But what she aimed for, was more than just a book. She wanted to earn enough to live comfortably with Abigail, without worrying about being able to eat dinner at night or not.

That was her ultimate goal...
