Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: My saviour

I walked back to school to catch a lift with Cameron back to his place for the party later. He interrogated me about Jane, so I told him we came to an agreement. His father left to go stay with his girlfriend for the weekend, so Cameron and I were at the house alone. We spoke about Jane while we packed all the valuable items into his Dad's room and locked that door, so no one went in. Jarrod arrived soon afterwards with a carling black label beer keg. He had a cousin that worked at a bottle store, so he helped us get booze.

The three of us got things ready for the party and practised playing beer pong so that our team would be unstoppable. Cameron also started a fire and braaied some boerewors for us to eat before everyone else arrived. The rest of the rugby team rocked up first, and we started playing music. Soon the house was filled. As a D.T.A. agent, I wasn't allowed to drink because I always had to be on guard. So, I danced, mingled, played games and laughed at Jarrod while he was drunk. Drunk people were hilarious.

A matric girl started dancing with me and twerked against my dick. She was so fucking sexy. Jane didn't come, nor Rocksyn, so Cameron was just sulking in the lounge. I, on the other hand, found something to entertain me.

"Come with me, baby." The girl I was dancing with whispered into my ear. She hooked her hand in my belt and pulled me along by my pants. It was such a turn on. We walked into Cameron's room and chased the couple that was in their out. The girl turned around and took off her top so that she was just in her bra. "Don't be shy." She smiled and ran her hands over her breasts.

"I'm not the type to hold back, even if you're drunk," I stated and pushed her up against the cupboard door. I gripped my hand around her neck, and she moaned.

"Kiss me." She begged and looked into my eyes. That reminded me of Jane, but instead of her innocent brown eyes, I was staring into blue eyes full of lust. My heart twitched, and for the first time, this felt wrong. What the fuck was happening to me? I let go of her and stepped back.

"What's wrong?" The girl asked.

"You're not her," I mumbled and walked out of the room. I just wanted to get out of there. I pushed past people and poured myself a beer. I needed it. I was starting to feel … guilty. Me, guilty? Fuck that.

"Taine! Bro, there's some guy at the door. He's asking for you." Cameron stated before I could take a sip of the beer.

"Keep this safe for me." I laughed and shoved the cup into his hand. Who the hell wanted me? I walked over to the front door and stepped out. It was an incredible night, and the stars were shining in the dark sky. People mainly were inside or in the back yard, but a few stood in the streets. Mostly smoking weed.

"Agent." A voice remarked. I noticed Nemis standing near the driveway. He gestured for me to follow him and walked around the corner of the house. Uh shit, did D.T.A. see I was about to have a beer? Luckily I didn't take a sip. He could even make me blow into a breathalyser.

"Nemis, I didn't even take a sip yet," I said as I stopped next to him.

"I don't care about whether you drink or not. I wanted to know why you and Agent Peanut are still in contact?"

"Oh, uh… when I'm not busy, I help her out with side missions." I shrugged.

"I don't think you understand the importance of the mission you were given." He snapped. "The only thing you care about should be the target. The only thing you put energy into should be the target. The only thing you think about should be the target."

"Yes, sir. I get the point."

"I don't think you do." Nemis barked. Why was he so pissed? I was doing my best here. "You will no longer be in contact with agent Peanut. She has been relocated. As for you, step out of line again, and I will take matters into my own hands."

"Jane and I are on good terms. She is starting to trust me, and …" I started to explain.

"Fuck the bitch already and make her feel connected to you." He interrupted. "She's just some stupid girl."

"Say that again." I hissed and stepped closer to him. I hated Nemis already; now he wanted to insult Jane. What was this guys problem?

"You think you so tough since the boss gave you a mission."

"Don't insult my target," I warned. He smirked and pushed me against the wall. Nemis took out his gun and held it up against my forehead.

"Or what boy? You gonna report me to D.T.A. Please, I should just kill you right here and make that girl open her legs for me quicker than they even realise you're gone."

"You have been pointing that gun at me and going on about killing me. Do it. I'm starting to doubt your commitment." I remarked and tilted my head to the side. I seemed to anger him more.

"Get your hands off of him." A solid female voice demanded. Did the chick from before follow me out?

"Oh, look who it is. Your little girlfriend came to the party." Nemis laughed and moved his gun to point it at the girl. I glanced over at her and froze. It wasn't the chick I danced with. She had her brown hair in a messy bun with her glasses on and wore a turtle neck long sleeve black shirt, a black skirt and heel boots that covered her knees.

Jane.

"Jane, just leave. I'll be fine." I stated.

"Listen to your boyfriend, girl." Nemis agreed and put his gun back into his pocket.

"He's not my boyfriend," Jane shouted and punched Nemis right on his nose. I used this opportunity to take out my knife and hit the temple on the side of his head, which knocked him out.

"Oh, my soul! Is he dead?" Jane gasped and held her hand closer to her body.

"No, just unconscious. Are you okay?" I asked and pulled her closer to me. She nodded. "You… saved me." I would have probably walked away alive, but Jane saved me any further injuries. Plus, my bullet wounds would have limited my defence.

"My heart was racing the whole time! I can't believe I just punched someone."

"You're a badass." I smiled. "Plus, you look gorgeous. Why don't you wear your glasses move? They suit you."

"Thank you. I kinda feel self-conscious in them."

"Don't be. You are beautiful." I whispered and kissed her. Maybe it was because she punched Nemis for me … or that I couldn't get enough of those brown eyes, but Jane was truly beautiful. I don't know why I didn't see it at first. I was so wrong. "Do you want to get out of here?" I asked when I pulled away.

"How?"

"We can take his car." I smiled and gestured towards the guy on the ground.

"You want to steal his car! Aren't you already in trouble with him?"

"He'll get over it." I laughed and searched his body for the keys. I grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the road. I pressed the remote, and a white convertible unlocked. It was a Mercedes with a brown interior and these sexy spiral rims. Flip, how much did D.T.A. pay Nemis?

"I can't believe we are doing this. Who was that guy anyway?" Jane inquired.

"Do you trust me?" I asked and started the engine. The car roared to life, and I revved it, which made the people outside all look our way.

"I… yes."

"Then don't worry about it, sweetheart. Let's have some fun." I cheered and drove off. The wind blew as we sped down the street and overtook cars ahead of us. Luckily, I knew how to drive because it was part of my training with D.T.A. Jane screamed excitedly as I skid around a corner. I had never felt so alive. We turned on the radio, and Jane rested her head on my shoulder. All the lights and the night sky made the whole experience kind of romantic. I drove to this parking lot that overlooked the city and scratched around in the car. Jane pulled a small packet out from underneath her seat and held it up. It had a few rolled joints and a lighter. I opened the packet and sniffed it. Definitely weed.

"Have you ever smoked before?" I questioned, and she took her head. I laughed and lit a joint, then handed it to her after taking a pull. "Don't take too much," I instructed. Jane took a pull and held it for a second, then blew the smoke into the air. She didn't even cough and was a natural.

"I kind of just came tonight to see you." Jane shrugged. "Even though we spent like the whole day together… I just wanted to see you again."

"I'm glad you came." I smiled and just stared at her while she smoked.

"Stop staring at me; it's weird." She blushed and covered my eyes. I moved her hand to my lips and kissed her fingers.

"I can't help it. There's just something about you that no other girl has."

"Yeah? What's that?" Jane asked. I almost said, "My heart." No, Taine. She's just part of the mission; remember that. You can't let your emotions get in the way. Stop being stupid. Jane is just the target.

"I don't know," I replied instead. Don't promise her something that you can't keep. You won't ever end up with the girl. You aren't that guy. Pull yourself together.

I changed the topic to a random fact I heard, which made her laugh. Did you know that a woodpeckers tongue wraps around its brain to keep it from getting brain damage while it slams its head into a tree? Sounds made up, but it's true. Look it up. Not sure why Jane found it funny, but she couldn't stop laughing. Probably because she was high.

I drove us back to her place and sent inside for some hot chocolate.

"Would you like to crash here for the night?" Jane offered. She wanted me to sleepover? Technically I was supposed to be at Cameron's place for the night, but he wouldn't mind.

"Yes, sir." I nodded and sipped on my hot chocolate.

"Why do you always say that? I'm not a sir."

"It's just my thing."

"Okay, weirdo. There's a clean towel on the bathroom shelf that you can use, and I'll help you cling wrap your bandages so they don't get wet. I might have this pair of massive sweat pants that will fit you. I like to wear baggy men's clothes when I sleep." Jane added.

"Thanks, that sounds like a plan." I smiled. I finished my hot chocolate then let Jane cling wrap me. I took a quick shower, and luckily the sweatpants fit me, which was a lot more comfortable than my jeans. I lay on the couch and made myself comfortable. I could sleep like this.

"What are you doing?" Jane asked when she walked back to the lounge. She had changed into an oversized black shirt with a pair of grey shorts and taken off her glasses. "You can sleep next to me." She added and walked back into her bedroom. I got up and followed her.

"I just want to be able to hold you close to me while you sleep. I don't expect anything else." I stated to make it clear before Jane felt nervous or thought I wanted to sleep with her.

"I would like that." She smiled and cuddled closer to me when I climbed in next to her. "Goodnight, Taine."

"Goodnight, sweetheart," I whispered and kissed her forehead. What was I getting myself into?
