Riley pinched the bridge of his nose. He was finally awake and was sitting on a chair while the rest of us stood before him.
Rex was curled on his lap, sleeping peacefully.
Catching our gaze, Riley blew out a resigned sigh. He didn't appear so confident now.
"I'm not a thief," he clarified after realizing what I had called him.
The woman was at the forefront of our gathering. She was, after all, the owner.
I stayed back, pocketing my hands as I leaned on the wall.
He can claim innocence or that I was lying, but would they take his word over mine?
Fat chance.
"Then you're a magician?" Boyaa's innocence was cute. He sounded excited while everyone around him was wary of Riley's presence.
At this, Riley searched for me in the crowd. I smiled when he found me and narrowed his gaze.
The last thing he would want to be called was a magician.
