We found a safer place to stay and eat properly. But before we did anything else, I placed Elise on the table. She sucked on her thumb while we crowded her.
Her beautiful eyes blinked innocently at us, and I had no idea how even to start questioning her.
"She is so damn adorable," Sab murmured. I couldn't agree with her more. But the question still hangs heavily in the air.
"What happened?"
Elise looked at me with a curious gaze. She kept sucking on her thumb, eyes wide as she considered the others looking at her too.
Suddenly she jumped up and wrapped her little arms around my neck, burrowing her face.
"I think we scared her," Fifi commented. She blew out a sigh as she caught my gaze. "Why don't you tend to her while we search for food? She might be comfortable later on and talk."
"She's still a baby, mind you," Sab added. She sounded protective of Elise already.
I scoffed.
