Chapter 3 - Chapter 2. Lunch was Served.

Lunch was served. Susan prepared fried rice and chicken with a lot of fried plantain. I can't remember the last time I had something that nutritious. The home was calm and quiet , Susan went inside to prepare for the kids return form school. Taking off my coat, I sat on a long cushion imagining what my grand children looked like. I had not been privileged to meet them almost four years after Susan had called to tell me she had delivered the babies safely.

Kelvin had called on our way home from the airport to say he would pick the boys up from work and bring them home; even though the decision didn't favor me, i had no choice i didn't want to fret with my son- in -law so early.

At 5:43pm Nigerian time the door bell rang, Susan ran to get it. Looking straight at the door i saw two young lords rush up to me screening at the top of their voices ,i held them tightly to my self as I felt the warmness of being a grand father. Tears rolled down my eyes .Kennedy and Cassidy were really amazing, almost identical they took after their father a lot when their chin stood high like they had just won a jackpot. Their hands were tender and almost flexible, their eyes were just like Susan's.

..'Hi Bon! its been a long time '...

l looked up and noticed Kelvin coming for a hug, i hugged him warmly.

...You will make a good father I said' ,he replied with a big smile ..'

I have never had any doubts about that'.

About an hour after the greetings and hugs, Susan tried to put the boys to sleep but wasn't successful. All they did was stare into my eyes while I chatted with their father. I had to promise them i would tell them my life story only if they agreed with their mum to have their siesta first. Susan was trying so hard to be a good mum; Kelvin helped a lot to encourage her. It was evident that the couples managed everything, a typical look at what marriage should be like. Mine should have been close to perfect but for one thing was sure I loved Marthia with my all my heart. She had died in 1991 seventeen years after Susan was born. Nothing was worth living for except Susan. I couldn't bring my self to disappointing her, I had to be a man, a father and also a mother.
