KILO'S POV
"Is he breathing?" I ask Devyn.
The human lowers his ear to Denzyl's nose and mouth. "Yes, he is breathing," Devyn sighs.
Castyr lets out a silent breath of relief. Even though the light was not intended for Denzyl, he is still a demon, and Castyr intended for the blast to kill demons. He is lucky he was just knocked unconscious.
Castyr's breathing is shaky, and he is barely able to stand. I help him sit on the ground and check his pulse. As soon as my finger leaves his neck, a bright light suddenly appears above us. I crane my neck as I look up in horror at the hovercraft looming above us. Devyn draws his gun and readies it as ten demons jump from the craft. Castyr tries to stand as I extract Ymir.
"Stay behind me," I tell Castyr as seven of the demons advance towards us.
Castyr places his forearm against my back to keep up with me as much as he can while I engage the demons in combat. He adjusts his position behind me, so we move as if in a dance. Even though I am focusing on fighting, my senses are still tuned to Castyr, so I know the exact moment his touch leaves me.
CASTYR'S POV
My eyes grow wide as I watch the hovercraft land. The hatch opens, and Aklys exits the craft followed by two younger demons. There is no way we can survive. Denzyl is unconscious, and how can a human defeat three demons? Kilo is struggling to fend off seven demons at once, and I am pretty much useless.
Argh!! This is why I trained for fifty years! So I could be strong enough to save Kilo! My heart flutters with hope as I think of a solution. Kilo will never forgive me, but it will keep him alive.
I watch Aklys approach with his sword drawn, his eyes focused on Kilo. I remove my arm from Kilo's back and begin sneaking my way to the demon general. But as soon as I turn, Kilo whirls around and grabs my wrist.
"What are you doing? Are you okay?" Kilo asks, giving a demon enough leeway to slice Kilo in his side.
"Kilo!" I jump in front of my angel as the demon goes in for a strike. I feel my breath get knocked out of me as the demon's blade is thrust through my right shoulder. I grab the sword as it penetrates my body, stopping it from piercing Kilo. I let out a gasp as the demon yanks his sword from my shoulder. Kilo's eyes meet mine as hands grab me and pull me away from my angel. Everything slows as I watch the seven demons close in on Kilo.
"Castyr!" Kilo cries as he tries to fight his way to me.
I am handed over to Aklys who lays me on the ground and immediately rips off a piece of his shirt to try to stop the bleeding. My head rolls to the side to see Kilo forced to his knees. Flashes of Kilo on his knees in the transport tower flood my head, and my blood boils. I cannot lose Kilo! I will not!!
"Stop!!" I cry out, causing the demons to halt momentarily.
Aklys looks at me; his eyes are tired, but he is listening.
"I will go with you...willingly. I won't try to escape. I will do anything, just...please...let them go," I plead desperately through ragged breaths.
Aklys looks from me to Kilo struggling fiercely against his restrainers. Tears fall from Kilo's eyes as he looks at me.
"Let them go after we have gone," Aklys addresses his subordinates quietly before picking me up. The demon general motions for his two lieutenants to follow him onto the ship as he walks up the ramp. The rest of the demons continue to hold Kilo and Devyn down as we enter the hover craft. I look at my angel one last time, a tear escaping my eye. A sense of relief fills me knowing Kilo will be spared, and yet a sense of dread enters as I think of the hell awaiting me. But I can take anything the universe throws at me as long as I know Kilo will be alright.
