CASTYR'S POV
Hmmm. This is nice. I wish I could stay like this forever. I nestle my head into Kilo's neck and watch the stars. He lets me readjust before tightening his arms around me. I let out a breath and relax my body. I have just barely recovered from Kilo looking into my eyes. He was so close I could feel his breath.
I have to admit, I liked the way his arms felt around my waist. I felt safe and...warm. I know I have not known him for long, but I already know I want him to be in my life from now on however it may be.
I turn my attention to the stars. A tear forms as a thought enters my head.
"Kilo?" Oooh, it feels nice to say his name.
"Hmm?"
He tilts his head into mine as he answers so his lips are next to my ear.
I swallow before asking, "Is my home not glowing anymore?"
"What do you mean?"
"I left it, so did it stop glowing? I was looking at the stars up there and thought about my home not glowing like they are...cause I abandoned it."
"You didn't abandon it," Kilo says softly.
"I wanted to explore, so I..." I sigh. "I shouldn't have followed the man. I put you in danger and-"
Kilo stops me by whispering my name. "Castyr, I'm your angel. Let me protect you, hmm?"
Kilo's words relieve some of my guilt while doing something else to me. I swallow as I slowly nod.
"And you didn't abandon your home. It's not wrong for you to want to see the universe. Stars can go wherever they want," Kilo tells me. "I just have to follow," he adds with a smile.
"Ok. Then you'd better not lose me," I smile back. Kilo smirks and nods.
"Your home is still glowing. They have a reserve of your light. Your residence will continue to provide Heaven protection using your stored energy," Kilo says.
"Ah. So, then we don't need to rush back to Heaven?" I ask with hope.
Kilo shakes his head. "People are after you, and they know my face. Heaven is the only place where you'll be safe."
"Oh." I nod my head. A fear makes me look up at Kilo. "You won't disappear again when we get back to Heaven, will you?"
"No."
I calm down with Kilo's answer, but then another question bugs me. "Why didn't you ever let me know you were there?"
Kilo thinks for a moment. "I had other duties, and I never knew if I would come back from them. I didn't want to get too attached, and I didn't want you to get attached in case I didn't come back one day."
"Oh. Well, it's too late, now. I'm already attached, so you can't disappear!" I smile at Kilo.
Kilo smiles and ruffles my hair. "Noted," he chuckles.
"Good." I snuggle back into Kilo and continue watching the stars.
Kilo watches me for a few minutes. He then lifts his arm and sets his hand on my head. His fingers run through my hair, causing me to coo quietly. Why does this feel so good? Kilo's petting causes me to completely relax and grow sleepy. I want to stay awake to enjoy this, but it...feels...so...good. I end up closing my eyes and falling asleep.
<<<<<>>>>>
Kilo's arms are still holding me when I wake up. Kilo does not respond to me stirring, so I look back at him. Kilo is fast asleep. His face is turned to the side so his chin rests on his shoulder. Strands of his black hair hang in his face.
This is the first time I have seen Kilo sleep. My eyes trail from his dark, thick lashes, to his pointed nose, and down to his lips.
A sound from the pilot's chair startles me. I look to my left to see Devyn waking up. He rubs his eyes and checks our position along our route. He switches the craft out of auto mode and takes control.
"Hello. Sleep well?" Devyn asks as he increases the craft's speed.
I nod. "How much longer until we arrive?"
"About a half-hour," Devyn answers. He looks at Kilo before turning back to me. "You're very lucky."
"Hmm? What do you mean?" Devyn's comment confuses me.
"You have someone who cares for you and protects you."
"Ah," I nod. "Do you not have anyone you can lean on?"
Devyn shakes his head. "...No...I've always been my everything."
I look at Devyn and nod, inviting him to tell more.
Devyn looks at me for a bit before continuing, "My parents passed when I was nine, and I inherited my family's company when I was sixteen. So I've been busy taking care of the business for the last five years."
"Oh...I'm sure you'll find someone," I encourage Devyn. "And I'm sure running a company at such a young age is no easy thing."
Devyn crinkles his brows. "You say that as if you're older than me."
"Well, you're twenty-one..." I look up to calculate, "...so that makes me ninety-three years older than you."
"What?" Devyn's jaw drops. "You're 114?!"
"Yep. But I'm a star, and we live a long time. I'm still considered really young," I say cheerily.
"Ah."
"I can't believe we're the same age." Kilo's voice catches our attention.
Kilo sits up straight in the chair; I adjust with him.
"You two are the same age?" Devyn asks.
Kilo nods. "We came the same night."
This is news to my ears. "Really? Wow! But I act so much...younger."
"Humans have found ways to prolong life, and I've met some humans who are your age but look like they're still teenagers. So I wouldn't worry about it," Devyn says gently.
I nod and lower my head. I guess I should start acting my age, but I cannot help but smile when Kilo ruffles my hair.
