"No magic abilities?" I asked, not that I was disappointed at all. This 'System' was more than I could have ever hoped for. It changed everything about me. I had access to magic for the first time in my life.

"Let me get a new magical ability." I said, not bothering to worry about the level information for now. I needed more diverse abilities first.

My eyes widened a bit at the increased cost but not for long. It made sense that the costs would go up.
"One more new magical ability." I said, keeping an eye on my dropping Life Essence points.

I now had just 750 Life Essence left and the cost for another magical ability had hit 500. I decided to leave it at that for now, better to have some Essence in reserve for emergencies, after all.
"I am done for now, thank you System." I spoke the words and closed the screen in front of my eyes.

As the words rang in my head, my vision went dark once more and I awoke some time later. Looking around, I was place on a metal table, there were many medical machines attached to my body and I could feel the stinging sensation of an IV drip in my arm. I felt a weight on my right arm and looked over. Sitting in a chair, next to me and sleeping peacefully, was Lenora. I smiled and gently reached my other hand to brush the hair away from her face. She smiled softly in her sleep, then frowned.
Suddenly, she bolted straight upright and stared into my eyes with shock. I could see the beginnings of tears falling down her cheeks.
"You're finally awake!" She exclaimed through thick sobs, practically pouncing on me and hugging me tightly as she pressed her lips to mine. I pulled her closer, enjoying the kiss, even if it was a bit salty due to her tears.
"Now who made my precious woman cry? I will find them, and they will wish for a merciful death." I said after she pulled away.
"We found you three days ago in your room. There was a stab wound in your chest and we thought at first that you had been killed. My sisters and I have all taken turns watching over you. Our fathers have been searching for the culprit, but there hasn't been any progress at all!" Lenora was biting her lip and trying not to burst into tears again as she spoke to me.
"Don't worry, my dear, I am sure there will be many more who will try to kill me," I replied calmly, "But I have a hidden card that will keep me alive." Lenora looked surprised at my calm words.
"You should be angry! Someone just tried to kill you and almost succeeded! I don't know what I would have done if you had died. My sisters and I would have been without you for the rest of our lives! You must take responsibility for this worry you placed on us!" She had moved from relief to anger now. I smiled and pulled her closer for another kiss.
"Don't worry, I will find out who wants me dead and they will pay." My eyes flashed brightly as I spoke, my blood heating up and pushing the stiffness and pain from my body.
"But first, let us bring the good news to the others."
