The executive's meeting finally ended on a satisfying note for Feng Tian, even though she wasn't sure she could say that for the others. She was promptly escorted to the company's back entrance where a waiting vehicle idled to take her home. Just as she was about to step into the vehicle, Jiayi's voice pierced through the air.
"Chun Huan!"
"Chun Huan, please wait!" Jiayi called out again, and immediately, Feng Tian paused, her expression momentarily flickering with an unidentifable emotion for a moment before it immediately vanished.
"Chun Huan, is that you?" Jiayi whispered as she hesitantly made her way toward Feng Tian, her eyes searching for confirmation. Feng Tian composed herself, and her features settled into a mask of polite neutrality before turning to face her.
Immediately halting her steps, Jiayi who seemed to be taken aback by the expression on Feng Tian's face, lightly cleared her throat before connecting her eyes with Feng Tian.
"Is anything the problem, Miss Jiayi?"
"No. I apologize for disturbing you, I must have mistaken you for someone else." Jiayi apologized as she tries to mask the dejected look on her face.
"Hmm, it was nice seeing you again, Miss Song Jiayi." Feng Tian said as she slowly steps into the vehicle, glancing back at Jiayi one more time before signaling to the driver to start driving.
Inside the luxurious car, Feng Tian settled into the plush seat, a small sigh escaping her as she closed her eyes. For reasons unknown to her, she was feeling particularly nostalgic today, "probably because that day was today." she thought.
As she peeled her eyes open, she reached for the window switch to roll it down, allowing the chilly evening breeze to wash over her.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Feng Tian asked, noting Li Wei's discreet glances in the rearview mirror.
Li Wei hesitated for a moment, unsure if it was the right time to disturb her. Then, he decided to share his concern, his voice softening as he spoke, "I was wondering whether it was appropriate to disturb you or not."
Feng Tian stretched her hand through the window, shaking her head. "What is it?"
"Here, Mr. Wang sent this." Li Wei handed her a postcard,
"Charlie sent this?" Feng Tian muttered as she examined the postcard before proceeding to read the content.
"The phoenix has finally risen, even the heavens have decided to mark this day specially with the presence of the dark clouds and the magical pour."
Feng Tian smiled and tucked the card into her purse before returning her attention to the view.
"It's going to rain, the heavens must be really marking today," Feng Tian said as she stares at the gloomy sky,
"Stop by a flower shop."
"Feng Tian, I don't think that's a good idea, the rain will start anytime soon, and it's late already," Li Wei protested. His face scrunching up in worry, he knew where she was planning to go after leaving the flower shop,
"Li Wei, I wasn't asking." Feng Tian muttered, she clearly wasn't in the mood to argue with him.
Li Wei sighed, knowing there was nothing he could say to change her mind, he could not help but worry and fear for her life, maybe it was because he felt she was handling this too well than he had expected but if there is one thing he knew, that would be the fact that she was never going to stop until she had achieved her goal, and what worries him the most was the fact that after it all ends, Feng Tian was never going to be the same.
After exiting the flower shop, they immediately headed toward the cemetery's direction on Feng Tian's orders, by then the rain had slowly begun to shower down little drops, and by the time they arrive at the cemetery, it was already raining heavily.
"Wait here." Feng Tian ordered above the loud patters of the heavy rain. Picking up the flowers she had bought earlier before proceeding to step out of the car.
Quickly stepping out of the car before her, Li Wei rush towards the side of her door with an umbrella over his head and one in his hands,
"Do you need me to come with you?"
Snapping the umbrella open, Feng Tian shook her head no, causing Li Wei to sigh as he watch her make her way toward the cemetery.
Finally arriving at her destination after a long walk in the rain, Feng Tian stood in front of a granite monument that read 'Here lies the resting place of Feng Lin."
Feng Tian stood in silence for a while, the spattering of the rain being her only companion before she slowly began to feel her vision cloud with the tears she was trying to hold back, immediately tightening her fist around the umbrella to suppress her emotions, she exhaled loudly.
"Miss, I'm here." Feng Tian whispered, slowly reaching down to place the flowers beside the stone tablet before rising back to her feet.
" You know it's being five years since they did this to us, to you, and those bastards have been living as if nothing had happened, a-as if t-they didn't do this to you," Feng Tian whispered, her voice breaking at the end as she raise her hand to her face to wipe off the tears that were now strolling down her chin,
"Well, they won't enjoy their peace for long because I will make sure to pay them back in two folds, I promise." Feng Tian said. Her whispered promises mingling with the rain.
Few hours later, Feng Tian decided to head back to the car, her umbrella long gone. Passing by the columbarium, she could feel her feet unconsciously move towards a particular section, but just like every time, the emotions she now recognized too well immediately made their selves known causing her to instantly turn the leg around, immediately walking away from the place her heart desperately desires to go.
Few minutes later, Li Wei who was starting to get a little worried quickly rush over with an umbrella immediately he spots the drenched Feng Tian.
"Detective Gu is here." Li Wei informed her as they both made their way back to the car,
"Hello, Miss Feng."
"What did he do this time?" Feng Tian asked, feeling physically and emotionally drained as they settled inside the car,
"Qi Yan… he," Feng Tian sighed. Leaning towards the window with her eyes closed,
"I'm sorry, Miss Feng, I-I tried to stop him, but he won't just listen, somehow how he managed to find out some clues about Sui An's whereabouts, and he's insisting on investigating."
Feng Tian knew the detective was genuinely worried about Qi Yan, even she was, but knowing him, he wasn't someone to stop just because he was told to,
"Don't worry, I will take care of it, you may go now," Feng Tian said before ordering for the detective to be dropped off.
The rest of the journey was spent in peaceful silence, just by her looks, Li Wei could tell Feng Tian wasn't feeling too well; To him, she was a very interesting woman, he didn't know how she usually does it, but she only let people see what she wants them to see, sometimes he swears she was an open book, and sometimes he just doesn't know who she was.
"What are you going to do about him?" Li Wei asked as they arrived at Feng Tian's apartment,
"Doesn't he learn? He almost died last time, but who am I even kidding, he became a detective immediately after recovering from that." Feng Tian muttered frustratingly.
"It's fine, I know just how to deal with him."
