I felt good when I woke up the next morning. I had a beautiful dream and I couldn't stop my grin from spreading across my morning face. The emotions zapping through me were confidence and assurance.
The confidence that I had nothing to lose and the assurance that all of it was mine and no one else was allowed in the game.
When I passed by Pamela that morning after freshening up, I happily gave her a dashing smile and a peck to top it up.
"Look at you. You look even more handsome when you are happy dearest."
Pamela complimented, hugging me like a long lost prodigal son. Well, I'm prodigal. Pamela forced me to eat omelette like a child. At first I refused but the sadness that took over her face compelled me to eat it and every other thing she gave me. I told her I had to leave but she allowed me after forcing a promise out of me. Pamela made me promise that I would come home more often.
I drove to my regular and favourite clothing shop to pick a new outfit for the party…..totally unnecessary but who knows who I might meet at the party? I can't let myself be seen in clothes I wore before or that the press had captured my photo in. That can't happen.
I saw some really nice three pieces suits but no, that won't do. What I needed was a nice black baggy jogger with a white casual shirt and sneakers. I was attending a party, not a corporate dinner or a board meeting. I needed to look as casual as possible but with a classy casual kind of impression.
After I got the perfect clothes plus the perfect look I wanted, I sped off to the address Daniel sent to me last night. Although when he sent it last night, I couldn't comprehend the rubbish combinations of the alphabet that he sent to me. I had to call him this morning and request the correct address.
Recognition glittered in the bouncers eyes when I arrived at the club entrance after securing my car in the VIP parking spot. They didn't question me nor did they ask for a means of identification. I strolled into the club, glancing around to spot my crew. The party was in full swing by the time I got there.
Trust me to always attract the beautiful ladies' attention. Several wow… he is hot and other words of compliments welcomed me to the party and I received them all with gladness.
"I knew it, you. Your entrance always causes some ruckus. Come along man."
Daniel said, appearing out of nowhere and he tried to pull me out of the groups of women that had surrounded me. Countless feminine groans of complaints and protest followed Daniel's attempt.
"A minute more please…..just one selfie Carter….all I want is a night with your sexy ass Carter…."
The ladies kept screaming after me but Daniel succeeded in dragging me away from them.
"I have my ways with ladies but can you tell me how you always manage to do that?"
Daniel shouted over the loud music as we entered a more quiet area of the club.
"I don't know what you are talking about Daniel. I just can't say no to the pretty ladies."
I replied with a hint of pride. We both had a satisfying laugh though. We made it to the other guys and I sat down to join the fun after saying hi to the both of them and their chicks who were staring openly at me.
"You didn't come with a date?"
One of the other guys asked. He has a darker shade of blond hair and I couldn't remember his name but I knew we had met before….even more than twice.
"Come on Philip. He doesn't have to come with one when hundreds are waiting for him at the venue."
Daniel uttered, referring to my earlier circumstance and chuckling at his own words. I and Philip joined in but the other guy didn't. I had noticed his cold attitude towards me. He doesn't like me very much but he couldn't show it fully and he was doing a bad job hiding it. I didn't give a damn about him though.
My phone chimed in my pocket. I was glad I heard it despite the noise and I took it out. It was a message from Ava.
Hi babe. I read a crazy lie in the papers. I need to see you for clarification. I hope you are okay. Tell me where you are and I will meet you there in a jiffy.
Oh no. This can't be happening. It can't be what I'm thinking. I was just paranoid. I took a deep breath and texted the address of the club to Ava. I needed a date anyways.
"Huh, Carter. You are the same famous Carter Dixon right? The heir to the well known Lithe Technologies. Am I correct?"
The guy who I had perceived his hatred towards me asked smugly. What is this shit eating ugly bastard getting at? I knew it couldn't be good and I was ready to deal with him.
"Yes dude. It is Carter Dixon in flesh and blood. You must have heard about me."
There is something about me, I am proud and I exhibit pride. I don't allow anyone to step on me. Call it a bad attitude but I still don't give a damn.
"I heard a rumor, Carter. It says your dad is on the edge of kicking you out of the company and you might not get the company now that you have a rival."
The bastard smirked. I didn't want to know his name because I was sure I would still forget it. He was expecting me to react badly or painfully to his stale news but I didn't. The other guys were staring at us. They were interested in hearing my response.
"Haa. I don't know where you heard that from but it isn't like that. My dad isn't kicking me out. As the heir, there are truckload responsibilities to carry out, so my dad thought of a way to relieve my stress. The old man loves me, you know. Therefore he appointed a capable acting director along with me to do all the stressful jobs for me and at the end of the day, I get the company and the rival you mentioned, get a promotion for helping me."
I cooked that up pretty fast and well. I boasted like I had nothing to worry about and the trio were surprised to hear my part of the story. They believed me without a single doubt.
"I knew the stupid paper was wrong. My baby can't ever have a rival."
Ava chipped in. She arrived right on time to hear my explanation and she was relieved. She curled up beside me and gave me a deep kiss as soon as her buttocks hit the seat right beside me.
I heaved an euphoric sigh of relief too. Who published the news anyways? Can't be my father. Right?
Ava distracted me from my thoughts when she moved to my laps, dancing seductively. She might not be my girlfriend but she was good.
I was incapable of loving anyone and she was excluded. She aroused my dick but not my heart. All good though. A win-win situation.
