Chapter 27 - The Alpha's Table

After sweeping the grounds for a couple of hours, the children were soon called for breakfast. Adrian and Megan had gone to sit at the table where Darius was, next to Nicholai. They also had a vacant seat and the two Betas with them. This table was supposed to be for the higher-ups alone, but the Omegas knew something that the Gammas did not.

"Did you wash your hands before coming here?" Darius patted the heads of the two children as they came to greet their Daddy. They took their seats, Megan still needing a higher chair to reach the table comfortably.

"Yes, Daddy!" Megan cheered before looking at the two familiar faces with them. However, she was not spoken to any of them before. Her round golden eyes blinked once, and the girl then smiled at them. "Hello, are you Uncle's siblings?"

Millicent shook her head and only had a mellower gaze to not scare her. "No, we're his attendants and his facet when he's not around. I'm Millicent, and this is my mate, Julian. I heard your name is Megan. You seem to be a rather behaved girl."

At those words, Megan's eyes flickered. However, she still grinned wider and nodded as if she knew what the female Beta was saying. She then pointed at Adrian. "This is my brother, Adrian. He's strong and brave! He helps me and Daddy everywhere!"

"Hello, Adrian." Millicent was not the smiling type, so she wouldn't do it. All she could do was to control her sharp eyes and keep the children happy with her seemingly docile face.

"…hello…" Adrian wasn't intimidated by her, but he didn't pay too much attention to her either. He was more interested in the man that only kept on watching them. This Julian looked very strong, even if he had messy short hair and a thin scruff for a beard. Adrian looked deep into those blue eyes that resembled none of the eyes he was used to.

"I heard you got in trouble with Coen. I would say stop minding that child, but if you see him as a rival, then it would be his honor to help sharpen the claws of the successor." Julian only pulled his lips for a smile, but Adrian answered him with a pout. "Am I wrong, Adrian?"

The kid turned away, but he grumbled. Since the food was not yet served, he could cross his arms on his chest. "I can't ignore him. I don't like his face. Also, he bullies the other children."

Adrian then struck a mighty pose. "I will take him down, so he will apologize to everyone!"

He suddenly reverted to his previous pose. "But Dylan butts in a lot. I want to do that as fast as possible next time, so I won't get whooped because Dylan butted in."

"Don't take it against your brother." Nicholai was only listening earlier, secretly wondering why the food was late. "If he didn't help you, you would have hurt someone else. The other children might be afraid of Coen, but he is ultimately a brother to them. The Omegas could have jumped in between to stop you two from fighting. Tell me, Adrian, can you control your attacks?"

"I…" Adrian twitched a little and rubbed his head. If someone did that, it would indeed be an ugly sight. How much would his Daddy whoop him for that?

"Since you're not yet versed in proper combat, try not to engage with him recklessly. Next time, it won't be Dylan who might butt in." Nicholai smiled at the boy, and he was quite satisfied as Adrian only nodded quietly. The young wolf knew how to listen properly.

By then, Millicent leaned closer to the table and asked: "Megan, how about you? Do you have combat abilities like your two brothers?"

Megan shook her head. Instead of a sad expression that Millicent thought she would wear, Megan puffed her chest and had her arms akimbo. "I don't need abilities! Queens don't fight!"

Blink. The adults all took a look at her.

Before Megan could notice their silence, the wafting aroma of the food took everyone's attention. At the arrival of the breakfast, even the Alpha's table had been filled with eating noises. Adrian and Megan did their best to eat on their own under the gaze of the adults.

Just like the morning before, however, Megan was stuffing her mouth with more than what she should be able to eat. It wasn't like she was eating messily like a pig, but she was eating as if she needed to consume her entire body weight in the morning. The Omega maids would even run around to refill the platters as if there was no tomorrow.

"…Megan, you need to leave some for others…" Darius cleared his throat, making Megan's hand pause in midair. Her little hand returned to her plate, while her eyes looked at the strange and worried look in the eyes of the two Betas.

"Sorry, Dylan always says he's hungry," Megan murmured as she finished what was on her plate. She then rubbed her bloated belly. "I'll tell him that he's greedy!"

Millicent frowned at the matter. "Isn't Dylan… the boy in the medical bay? How could he tell you something when he's still asleep?"

Darius sighed as he rubbed Megan's head. "It looks like Dylan can communicate with Megan through his mind alone. He could also draw energy and consciousness from her. I'm not even sure if it's safe for them to be doing that. It's my first time to even see something so powerful and bizarre."

A lifted brow came as Millicent's answer. "Are you sure they're your children, Darius? I don't think a low-born Alpha like you can produce such a very powerful Delta… not to mention that Adrian is already breaching the power ceiling of a wolf pup his age. Did another true-born Alpha take interest in you?"

Silence. Millicent suddenly realized that Nicholai was there with them. By then, she felt her entire body tense up in nervousness. Would Nicholai kill her in an instant? Still, she excused herself from the table to hide from her misspeaking. Even Julian followed her in case something happened to her.

Megan didn't understand what happened. She just took a look at her Daddy that slowed down in eating. The girl might not know the reason why the other lady left or why her Daddy grew sad, but there was something in what Millicent said that made Megan's eyes twinkle: "Daddy… is Daddy an Alpha, too? Like Uncle? Millie called Daddy Alpha earlier!"

"…y-yeah, but we're really different—"

"Mabel said that a pack only has two Alphas, and they're married!" Megan stretched out her hand for two, but her fingers showed four. "Are you getting married to Uncle, Daddy?"

Darius caught her hand and brought two fingers down. "Yeah, there are two Alphas, but no… the latter part is not happening. Nope, no, not happening."

Adrian finished his soup and tilted his head. "Why not? They're saying that Daddy is the pack mother. That's the mommy Alpha, right?"

"Oh, my God… no…" Darius was completely appalled. How much explanation must he give these children just so they would stop talking about it by then? Moreover, when he slid his eyes at Nicholai, the delusional man was only drinking his soup nonchalantly.

Under that bowl, Darius could spy a mischievous smile.
